  1. Sounds like everything is going to be shifted to the high end part of the program and regular ATX is only going to be a very basic program in the future.  Guess this is how they will greatly increase the price without raising to much stink.  Glad I'm no longer with ATX.

  2. That would mean that people would have to come into the 21st century.  Most tax preparers are nowhere near grasping the reality of how the future is going to be.

I liked the 20th century a whole lot better.

  3. I tell my clients that an extension does not increase the chances of an audit and that I always file an extension on my own return.  After all, I don't get paid for doing my own return.  Paying clients come first.

  4. Heads up on a scam e-mail I just got from "Casey Jordan, Speedy Tax LLC".  The subject of the email was as follows:

    "Catherine, can you takeon a new client in zip _ _ _ _ _?"

I wrote the "takeon" above as it appeared on my email.  As I live in a small rural area in Louisiana, I know for a fact that there is no "Beth Lee" in my zip code who has contacted "Casey" for some help with her tax return.....there is no "Beth Lee" that lives in my zip code period!

Two quick giveways were the facts that (1) his/her email address ended in ".us" and (2) the closing in the "personal" email he wrote to me was "Cheers,".....how stupid can one be?

Another fact that blew his/her cover was that he/she stated that unless I contacted him/her by return email, he/she would send an email to the "next preparer on the _ _ _ _ _ (zip code) list"......when I am the ONLY preparer on the list in my zip code!

I wish I could get my hands on him/her about right now.....if it is a "he", it wouldn't be a "he" much longer!  :spaz:

What if it is a "she"?

  5. The OP stated that the guns were legal in FL where he was FROM, but not legal in NJ where he lives NOW.  FL laws do not apply to NJ.  Seems to me he has the option to continue to live in NJ and abide by the law or move back to FL and restart his collection.

  6. I don't know how other states work, but when you report Alabama wages to the labor department, you do it on their web site and you just put in the amount the employee earned for that quarter.  They already have the wages reported for earlier quarters for that employee from all places worked and they figure the tax for you and deduct the amount from the employer's bank account.  They no longer allow the employer to send in a check no matter what the amount is.  Of course FUTA could be a problem if two payroll agencies prepare a 940 for the same employer.

Edit:  Also, in Alabama if an employee works for two employers, the $8,000.00 limit starts over.  I assume that is true in all states.

  7. Forgot to mention this, our state charges for SUI or SUTA for the first $12,500 earned, so lets say the TP earned 15K with ADP, the moved to Paychex, paychex doesn't use ADP balances and starts from zero, TP earns another 15K and is charges again for SUI/SUTA, do you still agree a payroll company should not use another payroll companies balances?

In Alabama, SUI is based on the first $8,000.00 and reporting is done on the internet on the state's computers.  It doesn't matter who reports the income, the state figures the tax on the first $8,000.00 earned by that employee.

  8. When I used to smoke (about 50 years ago), I had no idea how I affected others.  I thought my mother in law was very inconsiderate because she only had one ashtray in the house and I had to carry it around with me wherever I went.  How stupid I was.
