  1. I bought the Nuance product online and cannot get it to download.  I followed the online FAQ and still could not get to to do so.  I looked for a phone number on their website to no avail.  Does anybody have a phone or suggestion?

  2. Downloaded and tried it.  Makes great .pdf and Excel forms.  The problem is they are not fillable.  Maybe I should have mentioned that.  Since all my clients use the tax organizer and send it via e-mail attachement back to me, it is critical that they can fill it out on their computer and do not have to print and scan to get it back to me.  Am I missing something, here?

  3. About five years ago I was able to convert an ATX Tax Organizer to a Word doc.  The program that I was using quit working with Windows 95 or 7.  Can't remember which. The program was not updated so no longer available.  Does any know of a program that I can use to convert the ATX Tax Organizer to a Word doc?  All my clients use the Tax Organizer and they are all transmitted via e-mail attachment.  Currently, I have had to generate an Excel tax organizer that they use, however, it does not have the prior year data which many of my clients find useful.  Any idea?

  4. About three or four years ago I purchased my ATX software through a third party vendor for about a 50% discount. I did not have any real tech support issues to deal with so can't answer your question.  Their records did show that I left for a year and came back.  They issued me a new customer number etc.  (I came back because they put the kybosh on the third part vendor.)

  5. I had an IRS reject (using ATX software) because the husband had an IP PIN and the wife, who supplied the tax info., did not know it.  Husband called, gave me the number, refiled with no problems. It was not intutitive on where to list the IP PIN and the "jump arrow" did not take you to the place on the return to enter it.

  6. Elrod, thanks.  I had seen Nolo before, I don't know why I didn't think of them this time.

jmdaviscpa, the is an actual writer.  Her husband has died and she is using writing to support herself and her kids.

    Thanks for the help.

  7. I have a client that is turning out to be an author.  How are the expenses for a book handled for tax purposes?  Are they simply held and accumulated as basis in the book? Is there an online source I can review? Anything on the IRS web site? In this case we are talking prepayments to publisher, etc.

  8. Per Notice 2013-54 they may be subject to a $100 per day excise tax per applicable employee under IRC 4980D so it is imperative that this change be made. Rita I don't know if you can arbitrarily change what you are given by the church. You would have to determine what they have hired you to do.  If they are giving you line item budget figures to formalize for them, I don't know if you can change them.  If they have hired you to to do their books, based on the information provided, then you would probably be okay listing the medical premium payments correctly as salary on the books. After all that is what they are paying you do do.

  9. Sorry, I have been so busy have not been able to answer.  When I worked for the IRS, when we did an audit and it appeared the preparer was making up law, or doing something seriously wrong and per the audit it appeared this was systemic problem of his, we could and did acquire other tax returns he did to see if there was a problem out there.  We also  had an unofficial QP (questionable practitioner) list, at least in the locale I was in.

  10. Generally, you can deduct the cost of meals and lodging if your business trip is overnight or long enough that you need to stop for sleep or rest to properly perform your duties. In most cases, you can deduct only 50% of your meal expenses. So, I would say that there is no meal deduction.
