  1. EaseUS to Do  Free Backup software.  I am using it on three computers with six alternating external drives.  It works great and you can actually open and read the files on the backup disk.  We tested a restore as well and it worked perfectly.

Will this also backup the programs or only the document files?

  2. I appreciate those kind words and, of course, would be willing to help in any way that I can. I, along with others, would be more than happy to respond to any posted question.  If you want to contact me directly, you can do so at [email protected].  Be advised that if you do contact me directly you will lose the benefit of peer review that this message board provides.

  3. My client received the 14,750.  This is beginning to look more like a sale to me. His last e-mail to me seeking clarification stated: "The lot line adjustment was a mutual boundary line with my neighbor of which I sold him about a fourth of an acre last year under what is called a boundary line adjustment decreasing the size of my property but increasing the size of my neighbor's property.  The legal term can also be Boundary Line adjustment."

  4. Of course, we are assuming the pastor does not have an approved Form 4361. Of course, Jack realizes clergy are not subject to ss/mc, at least, in the normal W-2 sense, however, they are normally subject to SE tax.  If there is an approved Form 4361 there would be no SE tax.

  5. I have not seen this one before.  I have some docs from the county and title company indicating a purchase price of $14,750 for a boundary line adjustment. The boundary liine moved 30 feet west. Would this be a basis adjustment or a sale of a portion of a piece of land?

  6. I have the ATX Tax Organizer set up on an Excel spreadsheet.  While I do loose the prior year information for the clients, it has the advantage that they can fill it out on their computers and e-mail it back to me.  My practice is entirely Internet based.  As such, all the Tax Organizer is e-mailed to the client. I only see one or two clients face-to-face a year...well three this year.  Even with them I require the Tax Organizer to be filled out. All I can say is that it works for me. I have not yet used a newsletter, however, I have found some value in converting the IRS Tax Tips to an e-mail I can mail to  my clients.  I eliminate those that do not pertain to my clients and augment those tips as needed.

  7. I have a copy of the organizer and i was glad to see the ACA questions. As one who requires his clients to complete the comprehensive tax organizer,  I was looking for those specifically.  There are some things that don't make a lot of sense, however, like who has 43 dependents, who has worked for 55 different employers, who has retirment income from 55 different sources, who has foreign income form 55 differenct sources, who has people with 24 seller financed mortgages, 9 spouses and I could probably list a fews others.  After working for the IRS for 7 years and over 20 in tax prep, I have never seen these items.  Is your experience different than mine and I am all wet (Well, I am a certified scuba diver so I guess I am all wet.).

  8. Usually, for the Form 8594 to work, the agreement for the cost breakdown is part of the sales agreement.  Your comment that you went blank on depreciation would indicate that may not be part of the original sales agreement. The IRS does crossmatch the buyer and seller forms 8594 to ensure they are the same.

  9. Do I remember right that military reservists must use actual loding costs and not per diem when claiming on their tax return? There was a paragraph in Pub 3 that seemed to indicate they could use per diem. (They qualify to claim travel expenses.)
