  1. I know this thread is more than 6 years old, but I just had the same question. I called the Virginia Department of Taxation and spoke to an agent. I was told that both forms, VA-8453 and VA-8879, are required. That certainly doesn't make sense to me, but it does tend to align with the fact that the ATX software includes both forms with the Virginia individual tax return. I'm in Florida, so I don't do many Virginia returns. I'll just use both, rather than spend any more time trying to figure out why both are needed.
  2. All of this is very helpful. Thank you ATXers!
  3. This is my first tax season using ATX. I have a return to do for a married couple where it will make sense to compare the result of them filing MFS versus filing MFJ. Is there a nifty gizmo in ATX that will make this comparison easier? How have you handled this kind of scenario in your practice?
  4. Further note... The problem does NOT appear when ATX 2005 is installed on the Windows XP computer.
  5. I am a fairly new ATX user and just started working on a client with multiple years of unfiled tax returns. I installed ATX 2005 and 2006 on my Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit computer. Installation went fine, but I'm having problems now. I create a new return in ATX 2005, save it, and exit. Then restart the program and the return is not there. Gone. Also, none of my preferences that I previously set are still there. It is like I never previously opened the program. To further confound the issue, if I open the Backup/Restore function, the files I created are there. I can restore one of them, but then when I open up ATX 2005 the return is not there. It says "0 of 0 returns" are listed. I have a computer that is running Windows XP Pro and am now installing ATX 2005 there to see if the problem disappears. Any suggestions?
  6. You asked if anyone had seen any deals on QB Pro 2012. I just looked and found QB Pro 2012 on Amazon for $147.29. I didn't inspect it closely. Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Intuit-Inc-416966-QuickBooks-2012/dp/system-requirements/B005FIWUMS/ref=noref?ie=UTF8&n=229534&s=software
  7. I'm an EA who used to use ProSeries but am now a new ATX user. I'm doing a tax 2009 Form 1040 return that has un-allowed passive losses to be entered from the 2008 Form 8582 Passive Activity Loss Limitations. Every place I try to enter them says I'm doing an override. Is there a place to enter these prior year un-allowed losses? Gotta finish this one today if possible.
  8. I'm a fairly new Enrolled Agent, appointed in June 2010. I recently switched from ProSeries to ATX and just tonight discovered this forum. (Wife is out shopping.) So far ATX customer service has been quite helpful with the few questions I've had. I'm glad to have found this forum. It looks like a good group and I'm glad it's moderated. I've been on the AIPB forum (aipb.org) for a couple of years, but much prefer the way this one looks and feels.
