The ATX 2012 pdf print is listed in the filing copies printer choices.

I click on it to save a pdf copy after I print a file copy.

It's actually handy.

I changed the name to Pramo (no pdf) from PrimoPDF and it will now show up and print as the main printer in the filing copy.

Tested it all the way through to creation, saving and printing on my main printer.

There you go...

From the return menu you can change the default printer to Primo pdf and it will work on the print current page option.

Good for making a quick pdf 8879 for emailing.

It still won't show up on the filing copy though...

I also use Primo pdf and for me it's only been available in anything other than the filing copy.

To fix the fields for paper check printing: Select Print to open the Print Manager dialog, then close the Print Manager dialog. You do not have to print anything. That should fix the issue.

Crashing frequently today but all weekend was fine....

I don't write them either. I just cite them IRS Code Section 7216 revised Jan 1, 2009 that says I must have a consent form in writting before I prepare the taxes. I've faxed the CCH practice alert many times and I never hear back. Here's a link if you want:

Open windows explorer (hold window key and hit the e key)

Go to tools, folder options, view, and click on show hidden files and folders.

Working for me too.

Did 2 yesterday and went through fine and sent 4 more today that I have acks for. Will send the rest later today.

Looks like full steam ahead, carefully.

Only a few crashes lately but that nagging network shutdown really slows you down.

Try opening it several times. It took many tries (3-5 maybe) to get a return to stay open.

Had to do it to several different returns.

It appears stable (as stable as this years program can be) so far.

Make up a few dummy returns and keep opening them. Hopefully it will work properly.

Maybe this is because the have had (and still do it seems) so many network problems that they have network on the brain.

I use win 7 stand alone.

I did the update and re-boot for my win 7 stand alone and I had the same problem but (so far anyway) it went away after 3 -5 (can't remember) crashes and re-starts.

Hopefully it will remain working. It appears that it works itself out after awhile.

Check out the EIC thread. In it we discuss how to remove all forms including bad and missing forms and reinstall them using the program update.

To transfer returns just export them from one program and import into a seceond program with a flash drive.

I don't think you can batch returns as in previous years but you can mark them all and export them.

Looks like it would be impossible to mirror the program on another computer by hand.

My return backups are in the folder called formsets. No mention this year of databases anywhere.

Software says it will save up to 5 backups and for some returnsin the directory I have 5 backups.

I suppose you could change it to a flash drive. It looks fully changable.

In the old program (history) you could change it but if you restored or imported a return it changed to that location.

Try using your windows "search" feature to find it. It even searches hidden files.

I have the 2012 program loaded in xp and found assets that way. It was in Documents and settings.

I didn't try deleting it as I have no forms installed and no internet for this computer to load any. Only what came on the cd.

Earlier (above) I told you that deleting "assets" and reloading all the forms fixed my forms problem but my system is windows 7 not xp.

The same fix MIGHT work but it might not.

Sorry about that, I use windows explorer so much first thing I do when I get a new computer is allow it to show hidden files.

I have shortcuts on my desktop to all kinds of folders that I use many times a day.

I just loaded the program in my old xp computer. I tried to do a backup in it, so in return manager, under returns, backup returns, it showed that the backup location was going to be:

C;documents and settingsall usersapplication datacch small firm servicesatx2012backup

Just looked in my win 7 and it said:

C:Program dataCCH small firm servicesatx2012backup

Give that a try and it should show youwhere it wants to save the returns. Looks like you can change it if you want.

Did you change your backup folder? I have a C:Prgram Files(x86)ATX2012 but no backup folder.

My actual program is where yours is, but in my (windows 7) computer there is a directory called "Program Data" which has data stored for many different programs such as intuit, microsoft ect. and CCH small firm services. The actual path in my computer is:

C:Program dataCCH small firm servicesatx2012backup

In different versions of windows it must be in a different location.

I'll look tomorrow in a different computer.

Give me back my old msdos 2.01 and my floppies.

Found a box full of very old 3.5 disks from my backups in the early 90's.

Never had much luck with backup/restore. Ever since a "blue screen of death" destroyed my database in my 2007 program I only use export/import. You can populate your entire tax client base using import but if your database is messed up you can't restore. This is in the old programs of course.

A nice tech support person converted my old backups to exports and shipped them overnight for free. I was very impressed.

We seem to have a whole new series of problems these days.

I always enjoyed the message do you want to change it. It let me know I had at least one copy of the return I could open.

Of course I backed up my exports and backups daily.

I use windows 7 and the backups on my computer are located at:

C:Program dataCCH small firm servicesatx2012backup

The form data is also kept in this area.

I have my entire atx backup directory backed up to my external HD at least once per day.

I also created a separate directory to save my export Files. Learned years ago to do the exports!

I've already had to import/restore about 4 or 5 client files due to the program crashing on me.

It's not fun to enter data twice. As someone mentioned earlier the exports do not copy over the old ones

so you can have many exports of the same return. The date and time stamp help with finding the newest one.
