  1. Beta testers --- Would any of you use ATX 2013 as your primary tax software. Based on how your beta test went. Yes, details may be nice BUT in case that might get you in trouble ---- just the fact whether you would or would not use ATX 2013 as a primary, would be good information for the rest of us --- still undecided (but hoping). Thanks, Ed
  2. Help me out here/// The Supreme court ruled effective as of (I believe) 09/16/2013 on this. I have seen NOTHING about being retroactive. Therefore: The IRS position that these folks can be single and file as single up to 09/16/2013 but as of 09/17/2013 they MUST/HAVE officially married -- not a problem until I try to figure out --- is a married or single determined NOT DETERMINED as of December 31, calendar year? If a couple lived together all year and married 12/31/???? they would be married for that year --- no way around it --- so why/how is there an excepition for same sex couples. Another question (same basic idea) - if Supreme Court decision is effective 09/16/2013; then to me it seems, the marriages were not reconized until then, so how/why would an amended return for previous years be legal/allowed/etc.? If married and return filed, then annualed marriage; you MUST file an amended return for the previous "married returns" because the annulment means the marriage never legally took place. Basically, each state decides on their permission and the Feds decide on the Federal position based on the Supreme Court decision --- that's business, etc. However, my question comes down to --- How do you justify going back in time (Supreme Court could but didn't --- effective 09/16/2013) when reasonable and effectively the decision starting on 09/16/2013 is the REAL STARTING point? Maybe the IRS, just does what it wants --- regardless of what the law states... I know, but I have/had to ask. Stay well all, I enjoy this forum, now that I've found it. A lot less back biting and in fighting --- just facts/discussions, etc. is definitely a nice thing.
  3. Just to share ---- Had a return telephone call from Tayler Edwards at ATX - overall account manager responding to a letter I had sent (Sept. 1, 2013) to Jason Marx at CCH/ATX. My letter restated the ATX 2012 concerns, lack of decent response, some suggestions on how CCH/ATX might address issues - going forward. Maybe wishful thinking --- but I left the discussion feeling better about CCH/ATX 2013 product. Beta testing started today 090913 and will run for about three weeks (using 2012 forms, data-sets, etc.) with additional roll-over, real forms and some of the things that can't be done (they don't have standards, etc. yet) to be done later toward October as standards are released by the Feds, etc.)). Tayler left me with the impression, that CCH/ATX did have an idea about what ATX 2012 did to "some" of the CCH/ATX clients and that IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. It was mentioned that a "communication" initiative was in place to help clients know what was being worked on, etc. I shared that all I had seen was "selling messages" with nothing even remotely detailed about ATX 2012 problems, where it was going and ESPECIALLY what might be happening for CCH/ATX 2013. Tayler will look into that for my emails, as they should have been received along with the "selling" emails. When I receive a copy of the "informational emails" that I have been "missing", I'll review and share again. After the discussion and the way Tayler responded, etc. I do feel a bit "more trustful" of using ATX 2013 and trusting CCH/ATX again. We left it at --- I would telephone back early October after the beta testing was done and see where we stood (I do not have the funds to buy ATX, then have it fail (for my use) and await a refund -- to buy another program, so if I go with ATX, it needs to work (some glitches - always occur) BUT --- NOT another ATX 2012). I felt confidence in Tayler so if beta goes well, I'll probably go ATX 2013. I lean toward that and am not wearing "rose colored glasses" ALSO --- do not call me with any "property for sell" from the Everglades or related land types --- easytax001. note: I'm just a small one person - less than 100 returns (all 1040's as I stopped all but sch. C business when in rehab (medical)) using the 1040 program (NOT 1040 Office, just 1040)). So if they cared enough to speak to a little guy that doesn't generate a lot of fee's or research, etc., they might deserve another chance (once they fix the program).
  4. Never did a high-rise or co-op --- so if you're busy - disregard -- if not, please share how one might figure land % on a 40 story building. Is it as simple as co-op owned is 5 mil while full value of all units in 40 story are say 2 bill, with actual land purchased (with or without previous building) say 10 mil. Do you use dollars, square ft., etc. I'm just nosy and curious here -- don't ever expect one, but I like to learn. Thanks in advance, either way (busy or able to answer) !!!.
