  1. Yes the links go to the snopes comments --- when I originally saw this (few years ago) I did the basic search and believe (can't swear as memory not there) that snopes basically stated 'no dockets there between the two' --- at the time, I found there were dockets listed and fully believe the article was wrong when it stated there were no dockets --- which is not what is stated at the snopes article now. ---- Since from what I believe you said here - you've reviewed the cases, etc. -- I'll bow to your knowledge --- Regardless, my point here is NOT about Obama and Kagan --- but about taking what snopes states (politically wise) with a "grain of salt", since they apparently have (I have NOT verified this myself) a George Soros connection ---- NOT a Koch brothers connection (just in case you were thinking the Repub's have supporters too). People are going to believe what they want to believe --- my point is what I was guilty of (I blindly believed snopes was MY fact checker - without doing verification my self independently from them) only checking one source and believing they were impartial. I found I was wrong, and thusly shared an FYI here. Thanks for questioning me --- you've made my point too.
  2. I've never used more than one vehicle at a time ---- tried once but got to tired ---- drove one a block --- ran back for the other --- drove it two blocks --- ran back for the other and so on -------after running for eight blocks, I just wore out ----- Just learned to use smiley faces and couldn't resist...
  3. I tend to use snoopes.com a lot but found a piece of information I'd like to share. Basically I'm seeing this as taking snoopes with a "grain of salt": SNOPES EXPOSED Snopes is heavily financed by George Soros, a big time supporter of Obama! In our Search for the truth...department, we find what I have suspected on many occasions. I went to Snopes to check this out and they said it was false and there were no such dockets so I Googled the Supreme Court, typed in Obama-Kagan, and guess what? Yep you got it. Snopes lied. http://www.snopes.com/info/notes/kagan.asp http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/birthers/kagan.asp Every one of those dockets are there. So Here is what I wrote Snopes: Referencing the article about Elena Kagan and Barak Obama dockets: The information you have posted stating that there were no such cases as claimed and the examples you gave are blatantly false. I went directly to the Supreme Court's website, typed in Obama Kagan and immediately came up with all of the dockets that the article made reference to.. I have long suspected that you really slant things but this was really shocking. Thank You, I hope you will be much more truthful in the future. Again, just as an FYI.
  4. Understood about the premise on NOT rolling over a lot at one time. HOWEVER have a question --- When rolled over the rollovers also update whatever forms they have in that clients return (if available) and ATX has a screen to show you what forms are not ready yet and asks if they should be rolled over later. This is a GIVEN. As I understand the ATX 2012 and ATX 2013 program (believe me, I'm still learning, so I could be wrong) each time the return is opened --- does it not load-reload all the forms again --- (and each time the return is opened, until it is marked completed) so whether it does this at rollover or as the return is opened to be done, isn't that basically the same amount of time adding forms? Where if the return is rolled over prior to actually being ready for competition --- doesn't that save a bit of time --- as the return is already rolled over and all that needs done is the forms update when it opens? Thoughts, please. Mines, a small practice (but building) for now with less than100 returns. I' already rolled over and awaiting all the forms, etc.
  5. Have you looked at http://www.jtv.com/ ? Don't know about jewelry generally but I found some chains that were very low priced (looked at 18k silver and such). Now there were some that were nice BUT size (thickness) weren't as big as I'd have liked but they still worked (I'm a bull and break things easily --- these were for less "bully" people). Just thought I'd mention -- as you like jewelry.
  6. I WAS there with you a few months ago ---- However I telephoned Preparer help line and worked with a GREAT IRS person there to straighten out my e-services account. YOU NEED TO CHANGE PASSWORD, ETC. every 6 months (don't miss it by a day, either)or it throws/locks you out. Then you have to re-new and wait for a snail mail letter with some activation information ... My "Tasks" NOW HAVE me reminded to change the password, etc. every FIVE (5) months --- so I don't have to await snail mail again.
  7. Anyone heard whether --- when you finally get a refund --- whether the fed's will take all years due (ACA penalties --- sorry --- taxes)? If you owe the non-insurance penalty (eerr tax) for 2014 and 2015 and finally mess-up and get a refund in 2016, will they only take the current year or will they take all the prior years too?
  8. RUMOR has it that even with fleeing Europe, etc. because of religious persecution, the Pilgrims and "others" had a discussion on whether or not to allow "LAWYERS" to come to America ------ they decided yes AND we all lost ...
  9. Try this --- go to program (start button win 7) and find ATX admin console - double click on that, when console opens (leave it open, go to ATX 2013 program icon and click on that --- program should now start. If not, then Monday call ATX.
  10. Might I suggest getting something with an i7 processor ---- since requirements seem to be continuing to go up each year, perhaps with the i7 and maybe 16 GB ram you'll be able to skip an earlier upgrade for later. Pricing may be just a tad higher but you may save in the long run. Just a thought.
  11. Just downloaded the ATX 2013 program and installed it (around 2000 hr. 11/26/2013). Did my rollovers after setting preferences, etc. Everything seems to be working well. Although there are not a "lot" of forms as many have not been released by the feds yet.
  12. One, I believe in this benefit and wonder why IF : church and state are to be separate -- then why are any "church" laws, ideas, property, etc. regulated by the government, etc. -- if they're separate !!!! Yes a very different discussion -- not to be done here -- maybe on the political board -- but not by me - here. Two, any other argument withstanding; it will be overturned as if it stands, there will be president for "provides a benefit to religious persons and no one else, even though doing so is not necessary to alleviate a special burden on religious exercise," ---- which when you take out the words "religious persons", you could insert *** pick what ever you want *** any business, any commodity, any thing the "politicians" care to do that benefits any of their constituents over someone or something else. -------------- that's what makes politics --- doing something for someone/some thing to benefit them at the expense of something/someone else -- so they can get the money to be reelected.
  13. ATX 2013 "according to video's, atx support and the answers here - defining server vs. peer-to-peer are where my answer (this answer) is based from. whether a "hybrid" or a server -- if it is where the information and program is stored --- then one computer is the "main computer" and the other computers (work stations) -- "work" of that main computers data and program --- AND NO -- if the server goes down, then the work stations can not do their work. If a peer-to-peer system then computers can be linked together but each computer "stands alone" and can do the work without relying on another computer. So your one answer to the question is -- if server or file host fails or is disconnected from the peer to peer network, will the rest of the users be able to run ATX and process returns without reconfiguration? IS "NO" as the "work stations" are now dis-connected from their data and/or program. ----- they would need to be set up as a "stand-along system NOT as a server system. As a side --- that's why "cloud computing" is NOT REALLY NEW - decades ago the "cloud" was simply a "server" or also called a "remote site" where your data or programs might be stored instead of "right on your own hard drive". Now -- it's in the cloud -- which is someone else's servers at a remote site, etc. Just a marketing thing to save data and make money for some. HINT: I'm biased, I like on site data (with an off site backup) that I can protect and almost always have direct access to with my own resources -- electrically, etc. even with internet inference.
  14. Can't help with the road show but here's some info on ATX training videos: (There's a third one that was released a few days ago too). New ATX 2013 Videos are Available Two new videos are available at the ATX Education Library. Installation and Networking Backup & Restoring Files View the videos and fact sheets now at www.atxinc.com/education_library. Future topics will include client letters, print packets, e-filing, working with assets and depreciation, and more. Thank you for being an ATX customer and for using the ATX Education Library.
  15. Had a client that worked only in PA for a NY firm. We had to do the PA 40 (state return) and also do a NR form for NY which also had to include spouses dollars (his firm and work place all in PA). Just had to work through NY's NR form and work everything back out that wasn't NY related. Point being NY insisted since NY firm home, they wanted their (NY) money. You may be there with CA now too.
  16. I like the idea of the "political forum" as I can ignore it or participate AND STILL have a good tax forum for my questions and to try to help others. I'm still also on ATX forum and "wade" through a lot of comments on their "general forum" that I'd just as soon "skip"" as redundant, political, old, or just not tax related. As a believer in "sharing" and "letting off steam", being extroverted (I'm really an introvert); it's worth supporting "general section" but I'd rather still skip some (as mentioned). Here -- there is the best of both worlds.
  17. Perhaps once we get back into tax season we'll be discussing tax questions and maybe get away from the "general trend". After all this is a general forum. We just aren't super busy with tax questions, software questions --- right now. Being able to share ideas and opinions here generally may sometimes get "spicy" but as they say -- that's why there's vanilla and strawberry (although I'm really a pistachio almond guy).
  18. Point taken ---- maybe a better way would be to say --- our leaders should be ... :-) :-)
  19. Can't argue with that --- I'm same way. The "however" here is that I've seen a lot of folks (former career in law enforcement) where a lot of the people needed someone to "step in" and protect/stand up for them AFTER they tried it themselves but couldn't "get there" or stop an ongoing thing. That's what I mean by moderator "stepping in". Never-the-less, I BELIEVE the person is still responsible to let the offender/botherer know they are offended/bothered and if things continue ---- then to either remove themselves from the situation or seek help from someone --- such as a moderator. As a side note: I've also seen where the entities/people that someone might go to for assistance when they can't get it done themselves --- make a bigger mess and cause even more havoc than existed before (think government - micro-regulation).
  20. Don't know when they started the "Urgent care" or if maybe I didn't qualify --- my experience was in early 90's (1990's, just in case someone might think 1890's :-) I'm antiquated but not really "old").
  21. Thanks folks. It's nice to see I'm not alone in seeing this. It's also nice to understand I'm not just delusional and that others see it's both parties too.
  22. Agreed! Question - yes I'm naïve -- and not meaning to be "political" as no party is mentioned, but as an overall question that has/continues to haunt me --- Our leaders are smart - educated people -- many in some kind of business or organizations that have "real" deadlines, etc. Why do they not see this in the context that -- their decisions (or lack of decisions) affect others and take time to implement? Something as simple as a drop dead date --- where if changes to the tax code, regulations of any kind are NOT DONE by that date (date also builds in time to implement, change forms, etc.), then nothing changes until the following year, with no retro-active available to affect previous years. Again, the only thing I can come up with is that they believe ( as many criminals do too) that there is "profit in confusion" for them somehow. A different idea would be appreciated --- again -- not politically but as a "real" question. I'm just out of "other ideas". Thanks.
  23. Hi, Don't know this person BUT if they left because somebody "picked on them" --- then I'd support them coming back and maybe -- given what ever the proper circumstances might be --- for the "picker" to be chastised and "shunned-- maybe". Now if they left because folks disagreed with them and they either couldn't or didn't want to "handle it" --- then, that is their choice. Everyone has the right to their opinions and to voicing those opinions, etc. If they become too obnoxious, then it's up to the moderators to do their job - moderate. if THE PERSON BEING "PICKED ON" DOESN'T STAND UP FOR THEMSELVES AND/OR ASK FOR help -- moderation, who/how is it to be known that it bothers them. Again, personal responsibility starts with --- the person offended, bothered, etc. at least saying they are bothered, offended and for the bothering/offending person to stop it. If the offended/bothered person can't or won't do that ---- that's their choice --- so they basically are reaping their circumstances. Had an associate almost lose their position because they made a statement that offended a women at a company dinner. She didn't say anything to them (they didn't know this would or did offend her). However she went to HR and complained -- HR asked person and he said he did say whatever it was --- they suspended him and were considering termination. Long story short - in this case the person (man) would NOT have said whatever --- if he knew before hand --- and once he did say it, he wouldn't have again IF he knew it did offend some one. A lot of regulation used for person LACKING personal responsibility it saying something offended/bothered them. In this case and/or similar cases --- yes -- if the person continues the offending/bothersome practice, etc. --- then bring in HR, (moderators), etc. -- but give the offender/botherer a chance first ---- sometimes they (I'm guilty and clueless sometimes) they JUST DON'T GET IT - so tell them - then they know. Long way to say, yes rfassett come back; we all need and want those that try to help with answers and oponions --- even if we wouldn't agree with them ----- we support your RIGHT to say them. 24. Many years ago while calling on clients in Canada, I became sick and needed medications with very limited treatment, etc. (NOTE: not life threatening per se but being a guy -- felt like it). My one client called around and couldn't get me seen. I also called around and was told basically --- wait a week, maybe we can see you then, etc. On way back to hotel I saw and then called a doctors office seen by the hotel ---- same answer UNTIL --- I mentioned all I needed was med's and my US Dr. wasn't authorized ---- person then stated "You're American?". When confirmed and that I WOULD BE PAYING AMERICAN CASH -- I was seen as soon as I could get to the office --- med's RXed, and "I'M ALIVE" (not a ghost writing this post). Point: Yes, our medical system is broken and we do need reform : opinion: NOT a 2000+ page (insert any political rhetoric) that doesn't address causes but basically just adds regulations with costs to the user WHICH COULD just as well have been done by the government telling --- here's the new rules, requirements, etc. -- don't like them --- get out of the business ---- instead of just making deals that help the insurance companies at the expense, etc. of the people. Original point: Our system is still the best out there, as is our country: we have faults, we need to work on them, given the proper leaders we will fix them. Even though without the government, I'd be on the street, I still support less government intervention and regulations that hurt the people and small business, etc. while keeping "politicians" in power, just to keep their power.
  25. But then, we aren't government officials or super rich (at least not me). After all we also can't make a major mistake filing taxes -- blame software, do other things that impact many people negatively, etc. and then move onto better jobs without any real repercussions. Use ATX 2012 president (old one) and -- Ex-Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner to join Wall Street equity firm; as examples.
