  1. I can't seem to be able to get the income (all self employment) on line 14a of the the sch K of the 1065. I can't seem to figure out how I did it last year either.

    I know I'm missing something.

    Thanks Linda and Buddy

  2. I have a 1099div with SZ and SP in the country columb. what countries does this stand for and where can I find a list. The broker doesn't know or is unwilling to give the seccret data from their code.

    Thanks Linda and buddy

  3. "Trust" is a term used very loosely by the general population. It sounds like you are describing an account set up FOR someone; as you are thinking those are not tax deductible. Only tax-exempt organizations that have filed and received the status as such are able to be donated to with a corresponding deduction by individual taxpayers. For instance, I own a condominium unit; my condominium is a tax-exempt entity (Homeowner's Association) HOWEVER, donations to the association are NOT tax deductible by me. Final example worthy child has illness, donations to worthy child are NOT tax deductible, child qualifies to be a recipient of Crippled Children's organization. Donations to Crippled Children is tax deductible. lbb

Thanks Ibbwest. That is what I told her. There were two different donations and they were both causes anounced on the news (trusts set up at some bank)

  4. Client had tanning Salon business. Sold the business but the landlord would not let her out of the lease ((he didn't trust new owner (First clue)). Client also carried a note for $30K. In less than a year, new owner defaulted on the note quit paying the lease, and split with all the Tanning Beds EXCEPT the new one she purched that was also defaulted on. Client has tried to Lean assets on purchaser and found she owns nothing in her name. (Drives new Mercedes in dad's name, Has beautiful home in dad's name etc. Can't touch her). Land lord came back to my client and demanded the 3 Months lease, and required her to clean the place up to try to release building. Can she carry the old Sch C to claim these expenses incured in 2007 ( Business sold December 2006 ) sale was on 2006 Tax return. And how do we void the 6252 instalment sale.

    Thanks Linda and Buddy

  5. I’m not that familiar with Sep IRA’s. Client, self employed with no employees, and never will have employees, opened a Sep Ira. The way I read she can deposit up to 20% of her net earning less the ½ social security tax deducted on the 1040. She is 65 and wants to contribute the maximum to a tradition IRA also. Is the allowed and am I right on the 20% max for the SEP.

    Thanks Linda and Buddy

  6. Client made a donation to two separate trust set up for hardship cases she heard about in the newspaper or on TV. Because they are each set up for one person only I told her they were not deductible. Just checking to make sure I am right. Getting late in the season and brain is fading.

    Thanks Linda and buddy

  7. I tried to receive my Acks this morning and received an error message that the communication could not continued because the server was not responding. Has anyone else received this message? It suggests that I contact Tech Support if the problem continues - not a happy thought.

    Thanks,

It could be your securitly protection. Mine does that every once in a while and it is the security schield through my verizon dsl.

  8. I think the ATX calculations for the taxable portion of the CA state refund is wrong. If it is not could some one tell me the calculations.

Refund from last years state return 1099G was $432. The total Sch A deduction were $35,443. The state taxes (06) were $3,025 the local taxes were $899. There was no AMT. MFJ return.

The 1040 Line 10 worksheet (07 return now) at the top calculates the rufund as taxable amt $256. Why is this and is it correct.

Seems to me it should be the whole amount.

  9. My laser printer came with a warning NOT to put it on battery backup. I have the computers and monitors on backup, but neither of my printers. I can't think what circumstances I would need to use them on battery anyway. If the power goes out, I'm shutting down until it comes back on. The UPS is so the computers can be shut down cleanly, not so I can continue to do tax returns.

And yes, thanks for the warning.

The printers and coppier were on the non battery terminals. Surge Protect only.

I had just rearranged my office and the computer cord could not reach this backup so I added a new one for the computers. The printers HP4100N and the Brother MFC 665CW and the copier Canon PC1061 were on the three none battery side of the protector.

  10. I had a real scary incident with a Tripp-Lite internet office 500 surge protector.

This surge protector has battery back up and the battery started leaking natural gas and carbon monoxide. The odor was slight at first and became stronger over a period of time.

For two weeks I kept looking for what was causing this funny odor. Then, one Thursday I became so sleepy in the office that I laid my head down on the desk to just take a short nap, (so unlike me). Luckily I was so bogged down with work I made myself get up, go out side, get a drink and go back to work.

The next day the odor was so overwhelming I called a friend to help me identify the cause (new sniffer). She thought it smelled like butane, so I called the gas company hazards line and they sent some one out with in and hour.

He found a reading of “natural gas<25% and a reading of <200 PPM for CO at surge protector devise”. And said it was an unsafe environment and if it was an office building down town it would require evacuation of the whole building.

He also told me if I had fallen asleep the day before I most likely would NOT have woken up.

He could not understand how the battery would emit Natural Gas, but it did. He also said he was surprised that the burning battery did not cause a fire.

I am just letting every one know about the possible danger of the devise. I had two and took them both out. By the way I only had two printers and a copier plugged into this six outlet device. The unit is about 5 years old and I replaced the battery about 1.5 year ago.

PS. I have no natural gas going to my office building and no butane on the property.

  11. I need to purchase a new computer. I'm a little leeey of Vista. How is it working for those of you who already have it? I will be getting the Ultimate because I some times work remotely from the house (My office is detached). The computer I have now gets so bogged down, there have been several times I had to shut everything down and restart just to get a return printed.

I have read all the early post on this subject and it seems that ATX works ok on Vista EXCEPT for the post referring to the Vista UAC (what ever that is) causing ATX to not open. This of course does not sound good at all.

I think there are probably many of us on this site that could use the eperiences of others to make a well informed decision.

    Thank you

    Linda and buddy

  12. I had the same thing happen on a return that could would not creat an e-file. Never getting an answer. I finally pulled the 8879 and had the client mail the return. CA E-filed fine.

This is the reason I am planning to be sure to make the Supper Seminar this year, to check out the other software. I use to LOVE ATX.
