  1. I have always received acks for 1099's. It may take a long time, but I always got them. I think that I saw someone say on one of the boards that they had received at least one 1099 ack this year.

  2. Just got my first ack back- rejected! It was my return and apparently somewhere in the e-file it says that I'm over 70 and can't make an IRA contribution. I don't know where it is, because I checked the dates that I havefor us and they are correct. How depressing! I'm twenty years older and haven't even made it through the first month of the season. I recreated it and hopefully, it will not kick back.

  3. I received a call from a bookkeeper for a small oil producer. She is new and discovered that the old bookkeeper had been reporting working interest payments in the royalty box. She says that there are around 10 investors that receive 1099's. This has been going on for many years. I don't see how she can go back a long time and change the 1099's. Should I tell her to go back three years and amend them? Any suggestions are welcome.

    Thanks!

  4. No thanks! I still haven't heard anything back. I've left three messages and a fax. I don't know how much more they expect when their own employees don't answer their calls. Their organization is pretty messed up. I started a state audit in August and didn't hear anything back from the auditor until the last week of December. She had all of the information, but just didn't get around to it. Hopefully, we can get it finished this month.

  5. I have been calling an auditor since December 19, 2008 to try to set up an audit for a client. I finally went ahead and faxed over the POA on 12/29/08 and left another message. I called again today and no answer. Her voice mail just says that she is away from her desk. We were supposed to have responded by December 25. My client is worried that they will be in trouble, because this hasn't been scheduled. The only telephone numbers that we have are the ones on the letter dated December 15. Should I just wait until I hear from her or try to contact someone else over there? I don't want to aggravate her by going around her. This is in the Omaha office.

    Thanks!

  6. I'm hoping that someone knows more about railroad employee compensation than I do. I've spent a lot of time trying to find an answer dealing with this, but I'm not sure that I'm doing this right. My stepson works on a railroad track crew. He is paid per diem and some travel on certain jobs that bid for. It says that it is non taxable on his pay stub and there is nothing on his W-2 showing it. He doesn't have to report expenses to the railroad. Other guys on his crew keep track of their miles and meals and deduct from their tax returns what is not covered by their per diems. They are not even out overnight. He commutes every day from his home and so do they. I haven't been using 2106 on his return. If he were gone overnight, I could understand taking meals. He doesn't have a house, so his deductions would have to be pretty high in order to itemize. Am I missing out on deductions for him? He has only worked there a few years and was in Iraq for more than a year so he probably didn't miss out on a lot of tax refund. If he worked for anyone else, I would think that he would have taxable income for anything not reported to his employer. Thanks for any ideas.

  7. We got out current one at the pound, also. He loves us to death and follows us around like a dog. The only person that can give him medicine is my husband. I don't stand a chance of surviving. We've got a chance to go to Florida for a week next June and the only thing holding us back is whether he will be OK wihout us for six nights. We really need to find a house sitter. He is so spoiled! We just came back from a four day trip and he was furious with my husband, even though we had someone with him every day for at least an hour or two. Our son misses him every night and has to call and leave him messages on the answering machine. The cat is 14, so it's pretty late to get him a buddy, but next time I'm getting two cats so that they can play with each other.

  8. My attorney told me to go ahead and produce all of the copies, because all of the issues had been resolved. At least I will get paid for these. He requested a copy of the lawsuit, so that we have some idea what it is about and if it looks like I might be deposed. I hope that I'm finished with the whole thing, but I'm pretty unlucky, so it'll probably happen in the middle of tax season.
