  1. Well, My take is that we do not have any official memo from IRS that we should stop ACA related calculation. I am worried about circular 230 problem. I will continue to follow the current rule at the time of filing. My ATX MAX does scream if box is not checked or 8965 or 8962 calculation.

Tax Year 2016 NYS Driver License Requirement: Overview and FAQs

The New York State Tax Department, in partnership and collaboration with the IRS and other states, continually assesses and improves its fraud deterrence systems for the mutual benefit of the State and its taxpayers, including the tax professional community.

This year, we’ve taken the step of requiring an additional verification measure in personal income tax preparation software: the collection of driver license and state-issued ID information.

Historically, our process of informing the tax preparation community about new requirements has been to communicate and work with tax preparation software developers; test for their compliance before approving; and then notify tax professionals upon issuing each year’s updated Publication 93, New York State Personal Income Tax Modernized e-File (MeF) Guide For Return Preparers For Tax Year 2016.

This year, through the attention of the tax professional community, we’ve recognized an opportunity to enhance our communication with this group to provide accurate and consistent information about upcoming changes such as this requirement. The Driver License Requirement for Tax Year 2016 document, also available on the Tax Professionals landing page, is one of multiple communications steps we’re taking moving forward.

Some of you will receive this email more than once, as you belong to multiple professional communities. Please pardon the duplication.

  3. I have Brother Laser for tax return copy print duplex HL5370DW for 4 years now. Other Brother all in one is MFC J6720DW for printing color.

But I use Dymo label printer for printing labels and stick to any size of envelope. It is very easy that way rather then passing different size of envelopes thru any printer.

  4. I got letter today from IRS to go eservice and complete identity proofing within 30 days with a special code in the letter. Letter says that I must complete within 30 days of letter  and if not then my eservice account will be deactivated. It seems that your eservice account is deactivated and phone call needed to reactivate it. Just my guess.

  5. Hello Again:

I did allocate on the back of 8962 and Efiled tax return. But got rejected by IRS with Code F8962-049

    Federal 1040

If Form 8962, Line 2b 'TotalDependentsModifiedAGIAmt' has a non-zero value, then Form 1040 or Form

1040A, Line 6c(2) 'DependentSSN' must have a value.

How do I fix this error. Because if I put junior on dependent, I do qualify for PTC but if not and allocate, then not. Seems like paper file the return.

  6. Client husband, wife and junior (24years old)  for first 9 months health insurance thru exchange for all 3 and qualified for APC. Junior got job with health benefit from employer so parent removed him from there health insurance through exchange for last 3 months of the year. Junior made more then 14k in 3 months so parent cannot claim him as child or relative due to income test and also he was not in college.

Problem is due to 3 together for the first 9 months, parents qualified for APC $250 a month. Now Junior out on his own and filing his own return, parents income does not allow APC and have to return all APC.

Any options or opinion on how to work with ATX MAX as junior's income create a loss of $3000 to parents.

    TIA

  7. I have client with me and called IRS. They looked into the file and advised that Client should write letter and request waiver. They will not do over the phone. I asked them if I should send a check with letter. They said no need to send anything for now. Just fax or mail the request letter. Once they review and approve or disapprove the abatement of penalty, they will send final bill to pay.

I just faxed the letter to the fax number printed on the CP2000 and hoping for the best.

  8. Taxpayer has 7 1099-R. Missed one. Tax return was filed in 2013 and now got CP2000 for not including 1099R with additional tax of $5833 + $ 1167 Understatement Penalty + $292 interest Totals to $7292.

Taxpayer is happy to pay tax and interest but asked any way to request waiver of understatement penalty.

How do you request to waive  the penalty? (1) write a separate letter mailing full amount due or (2) send a letter with CP2000 with check of total less penalty and wait for answer from IRS?

    Any guidance is appreciated.

  9. Voice mail on my cell phone says: " You have reached the old number of ______________ agency. Please call me at office number ________. If you leave message at this number, it is not monitored and returned.

All my family know about this message so they do leave message if I am not available but NEVER return client message. They learned in few season. Still once in a while I get message.
