  1. One of my long time customer's return efiled. I received reject code MEFFDIND-510 which tells me that spouse SS number is used as primary number on other return. Does this have any thing to do with identity theft?

What are my options? and how do I solve this. Just paper file but what kind of guidence I should give to client or what steps I should recommend to the client.

    Guidence please,

  2. I am a new york preparer working on PA resident tax.

Federal w-2 (66K) income and one 1099-misc for 27k. Federal forms are 1040 and C.

While finalizing PA, I see that 1099-misc is added to line 1 (Total 93k) in PA-40 with gross income and ALSO line 4 shows the PA Sch C (27k less 5k expenses Total of 22k) (copy from Federal Sch C minus expenses). So ATX does add 27k 1099-misc at line 1a and also Sch C brings 22k to line 4 create the PA income of 115k on line 9 and line 11 in PA-40.

Is this correct or I should remove 1099-misc income from line 1 for PA and keep the line 4 because Sch C is present for Federal as well as PA.

Can someone from PA please help.

    TIA,

  3. I sent client to SS office to check out and guess what? The efficient SS office put DOD as 05/02/11 instead of 05/13/11. I have no idea how the number 13 become number 2. Finally client was able to convince SS people to correct the date about 10 days ago and as per SS office, now the correct DOD on the file. Now after a week when i efiled again, it was rejected for the same reason. So i have to wait and see when IRS computer will update from SS info. Really frustrating that error at one end creates problem at other and we as tax preparer have to be at the mercy of them.

  4. Filing married joint as one spouse died on May 2011. Using ATX Max.

I am getting reject from federal efile with the following reject info:

    MEFFDIND-035

"Primary Date of Death" in the return must match that in the e-file database.

I am looking at death certificate and it does matches with the date on top of 1040.

when i click on the error code in efile reject, it takes me to the SS field on efile form. I checked the SS and that is correct as per the W2 and last year tax return.

    How do i fix this.

I see that there is a check mark box under the ERO PIN for POA or Personal Rep. Do I need to mark this box?

    Help Please.

    TIA.

  5. One of my return is getting rejected for the mismatch of name and SS# of dependent.

Dependent name is printed on SS Card as " John Rosa King Martinez".

    I tried to submit with (1) John King-Martinez (2) John K Martinez (3) J Martinez. all 3 got rejected.

I tried to abbreviate with 3 different combination and still getting rejected.

How do I fix this so I can efile. I tried to search but can not figure it out.

    TIA.

  6. I have couple who is getting pension from UK government direct deposit to their US bank account. I created 1099-R with the info from the letter and amount and selected UK as foreign country. But when try to create efile, gives me red error asking me Payer's Tax ID number.

How do I bypass this to efile the return or am i missing anything?

    TIA.

  7. I am in NY & have only one non resident CA efile due to K-1 allocation of CA income. Do i need to follow any registration formalities to efile or I can efile one without any problem? I am not CPA or EA, just a tax preparer. Any thing special about CA?

    TIA
