  1. My Windows XP upgrades to SP 1, 2 and 3 all went smoothly. Had no problems installing or upgrading the program. However, have not tried to open it yet today, but will, as others are indicating new issues.

I'm runnig XP (SP3) and no problems so far in opening or runing the program.

  2. I haven't received the cd as yet, but attempted to download from the web. It will not move past "0" on the install sreen after inserting my activation code. I saw someone below had to install in safe mode to get past this. What would cause this "hanging", and should I expect the same problem when I use the cd? I didn't experience this in prior years using the same computer system. I guess I'm wondering if I might have another problem lurking somewhere.

I received the CD, but opted to download from ATX. It took less than 3 mins to download and everything else was pretty easy. Just as a note I Installed on my Server and also completed Netsetup to one of the work station in less than 15mins total.

  3. NJ 1065 with direct debit--There was a problem with the NJ 1065 returns that contained direct debit. In certain conditions, the debit was not taken out of the taxpayer's account. This affects 96 returns total. ***We received word today that we will need to get these returns re-transmitted by the EROs after they've made some specific changes to the returns. The CS Dept will be contacting each affected ERO with instructions; please do not attempt to resend until CS has contacted you. The state of NJ has assured us that these returns will be considered timely filed.

Massachusetts business efiling after an extension is efiled and accepted--We have identified a problem with the MA business efile system and we've identified the work-around solution. Problem: Once you send a MA business extension electronically and that efile is accepted, our EFC system is not allowing you to send the MA business efile return. The Work around is this: You must email or call the CS Dept with the affected EINs. CS requests that our EFC team "unlock" the EFC for these EINs, which will allow you to efile the MA business return.

efiling 2006 990 returns--We do not support the efile of prior year 990 returns. The IRS has told us they will grant no waivers to allow these to be paper-filed. You must use another software package to efile the 990 returns for 2006. December 2007 to present we have a message posted to the e-file area of the support site explaining which prior year returns can be efiled and which ones cannot. The message reads in part,

"The IRS EMS system will be unavailable December 28, 2007 to January 7, 2008 for annual filing season updates. All business return types (1120, 1120S, 990, 990PF, 7004, 8868, 940, 941 & 940) will be unavailable for transmission during this time period.

In addition, when the IRS makes this system available on January 7, 2008, they will allow only 940, 941 & 944 e-files to be transmitted. All other prior-year business return types (1120, 1120S, 990, 990PF, 8868 & 7004) will be unavailable for transmission through the ATX software. However, you can continue to e-file prior-year 940, 941 & 944 return types."

  4. The land was [is] inventory, but he did not sell the land, he sold his interest in the partnership, which still owns the land. He may or may not have ordinary income, but the sale would most likely have generated a liquidation dividend, if they were the only two partners. The sale of his interest would be a capital gain or loss, but partnership accounting is the most convoluted area in all of tax law, so there is no way to know, from the little detail given, what should have been shown where on the K1.

I apologize for not being clear. The partnership was dissolved and land was sold to partner for book value. My client recevied extra amount than the basis. Is that considered capital gains..?

  5. Does not sound right. If he sold his interest directly to another partner he should get a K-1 with his prorata share of income from operations. You would then have a gain or loss to report on the sale of the partnership interest based on his "Outside Basis", which will most like be the same as his inside basis/capital account.

    Joelgilb,

Forgot to metnion that my client recevied more money than his contribution. Shouldn't that be considered as Capital gains rather than Oridnary Income.?

  6. I have a client who had taken an extension because he did not have K-1 from partnership(Which is prepare by partner's accountant). The partnership purchased 2 seperate land lots in anticipation of building house and selling it. Some how the dpartnership did not last and split.

My client sold his share of partnership to the other partner with a gain. The gain is showing on K-1 as Ordinary Income. Is this correct..?

Just want to check with the experts.

  7. Mike,

I use Trust Fax for receiving. I send everything from my computer. Based on my monthly receive volume, I get by with the $4.95 plan, including a toll-free number.

    Here's the link: http://www.trustfax.com/free_trial_30day.a...CFRUdsgod7XLPjw

    Hope this helps.

    Jerry W

I'm using MYFAX. you can check it out at myfax.com. have been using it for over a year. Cost is $10.00/Mo with 100 send and 200 receive pages. You get a toll free number and can fax from your computer. It works great. I'm very happy with it.

  8. The instructions on both th NJ 1040 NR and the NJ 1040 say to use the NJ 1040.

Are you sure I should be using the 1040NR. Looks to me like this is Non-Resident only. He is now a NJ Resident, having moved there from IL

ON 1040NR, Use data TAB where you can put date of NJ residency.

  9. Have a NJ 1040 to prepare and need to allocate the interest income between IL and NJ for the period the taxpayer lived in each State.

Having been on hold with ATX support for 40 minutes and then told the following 3 wrong answers over another 20 minutes:

    1. The whole amount is taxed to NJ - NOT needs to be prorated based on # days lived in NJ

    2. Use the NJ 1040 Nonresident forms. - NOT this is for non residents only, my client is a resident of NJ

3, Use the the credit on line 39 which has a sub-schedule A to calculate same. Not, this only applies when the taxpayer is a full year resident and has income taxed by another State.

So, I am now doing what I should have done all along, asking the "Unnofficial" community. Is there some form or schedule available in ATX to allow me to allocate or do I have to override and allocate manually (also can do a itemized list this way)?

    Are you using 1040NR..?

Please use 1040NR and enter in COL B income from NJ Source.

  10. Thank you both for the information.

Yes I am able to get historical data from CAO by changing the system date.

I also evaluated QB last year but QB Payroll does not have MICR check printing. I believe you can only use pre printed checks.

  11. DevM- I am in the same boat. I also tried the new ATX client write-up program, and did not like it at all, so converted payroll clients to another package.

To see the historical data in the old ATX Client Accounting Office, try changing your computer system date temporarily to before the CAO expiration date, then open the program. I had to do this a few years ago due to a program bug (which was later fixed), and am doing it now to continue working on the non-payroll write up accounts.

    RJM,

I'm on the lookout for a new write up / payroll package. which one do you use.? can you please tell us about pros and cons..?

  12. Just got off the phone with Bandy at ATX/CCH. My old Client accounting program expired and they will not generate product ID to view Historical data.

The problem is CCH only bought ATX and not Client Accounting Program. Even though I converted most clients Payroll historical data is not coverted.

Never heard such a ridiculous Statment from a company the size of CCH.

Is it possible that once ATX Tax program is discuntinued we will not be able to get the data..?

    Sorry !! Just frustrated..

  13. Last year (I think it was when I renewed) I asked about the Fixed Asset program that was mentioned in the literature. I told the sales person that I'd like to try it and she said ok. Frankly I forgot about it, but early this week I got a CD from ATX. Lo and behold, it was Fixed Asset Manager.

I wanted to try this because I do some review work for organizations that do the tax return in house and I need a way to compute good old GAAP depreciation for the financial statement.

Haven't tried it yet -- just installed it this morning.

    Has anybody else tried it?

I got one too yesterday. haven't tried it yet.

  14. I do an H & R Block and charge by the transaction when there is a lot of them. Typically $5.00 per each sale covers my time and rate and the rate is $225 per hour btw.

So far had some complaints but always was able to get them to understand, pay and come back next year, usually with less sales!

    Joel

$5 per sale that would mean 5K for a total of 1000 Sales.. WOW.. Who is going to pay that kind of money..?

  15. I had exactly the same situation, probably two weeks ago. Since they were not ready for transmission, I just figuered it was a quirk in the program or I hit the wrong key and did not realize it.

When you change / print any forms the file will automatically be rejected. This is to ensure that we re-create the efile before transimitting. This is actually a better function that I like.

  16. I have a client who is a Pennsylvania resident, MFJ. There are 3 Pennsylvania Schedule D's that a calculate...1 for him, 1 for his spouse and 1 for joint. The amount that flows to the front of the PA - 40 is only the amount from his Schedule D. It does not add all the Schedule D's together. I recall having this problem in the past but can't remember the fix.

    Thanks!

Why would you have 3 SCH D. ? why not just have one sch. D and speicfy for each transaction Filer Spouse or Joint.

  17. I don't see the "Orig-ATX200x.mdb. file in my program, but I don't see them in 04,06 or 07 either and do not have any problem to open any of them.

That particular file is the one holding me down to try to fix it mayself.

    Do you have Temp_ATXxxx file:
