  1. Thank you all. It's a work in progress. I restarted my pc after updating and it helped . My AVG detected a trojan virus and I'm defragmenting. In between all of these things I'm doing I was able to open the files I couldn't before but now another one is acting up. I'm working on it. Thanks to all!
  2. Thanks Mel but I don't think that's the problem and I am scanning my computer for a virus and procede from there. Mel I remember you from years past when ATX was a small independent and very functional software company.
  3. I have a problem importing some files and they all seem to contain unique forms. Each time I download a return that contains forms from a partnership the entire 2007 program shuts down. I've tried upgrading, restarting the program and turning off the computer. This is not a major problem yet because it is not on my main computer. It is on a computer where my daughter makes entries and gives them to me on a zip drive. Since our tech support is virtually non-existant I was hoping someone has already solved this type of problem. Thanks
  4. Thank you, After reading problems others were having I actually did that and it worked. Now I'm down to three of about a dozen 1099s filed that are still sitting there but they're not as important to me.
  5. The service is absolutely horrible and has been in Dec., Jan, and now Feb. Each call is answered with some lame excuse and a promise that it is temporary. Guess what it's not. They've got our money and obviously are not going to spend it on more tech staff! The only solution is to cut their client base dramatically. I'm going to do my part right after this tax year. As for my question, I also have a few 1099's in limbo although the majority have been accepted. I also have some 1040s dated 2-20-08 that are just sitting there. Does anyone have any idea why some would be sent to the IRS and some just sit. You have my permission to back bill ATX for a service call if you have the answer. Thanks in advance.
  6. I don't have time to say everything I'd like to, but I've always thought the program's positives outweighed its negatives. My problem this year is the understaffing of the tech phone line. Now that I rediscovered the chat room that will be much less a problem for me. As someone said earlier using this format is quicker and usually better than tech support anyhow. Before the old cheerleaders chime in to say tech support is just wonderful and staffed just right, use your head! If CCH hired the proper amount of tech staff, there wouldn't be sooo many complaints about one hour plus waits. By the way I also have discs dating back to 1997.
  7. I will be looking at other options after the tax season as well. Although I like the software I can't stay with a company who refuses to hire the technical staff needed to service its clients. I wouldn't mind seeing a few options but I think it would be fantastick if somehow we could rate the service quality of each software.
  8. BRING THE TIGER BACK WITH ITS MIGHTY ROAR AND PAW PRINTS AND LOSE ALL THE PARENT COMPANIES THAT HAVE BOUGHT IN SINCE.
  9. Jainen, Thanks for your opinion but I don't see how you arrived at fraudulant in regards to this client unless you think 100% financing is some how against the law. He purchased a rental property which generates income and expenses and pays taxes accordingly. It is the 1099 that is suspect.

    HI

I'm just starting to post again as well but I'm still using "my future exsoftware". I don't think were supposed to talk about tech service so I'll just say welcome.
  11. Jainen, I am also licensed to do loans and the answer is of course this deal was put together to "manipulate" the lending process. This broker was able to get show a substantial down payment to get the client a loan, never intending to have the client really use any of his own money. The client is for the most part an innocent party and the broker can plead stupid and escape prosecution. My question to you is, if this is really not income why do you think I could or should add this to the clients income. The reason I ask is this particular client was on disability for several months and his income is 20 or 25k below his personal write offs. In this one case I would love to report the 36k as income.
  12. Thanks KC, that was what I thought I would have to do. It just seemed like since the activity is on sch E and the expenses are on sch E the money returned should go there too. It probably doesn,t have an obvious place because the 1099 shouldn't have been generated in the first place.
  13. I have a client who purchased two properties putting 18k down on each. He was told that upon close of escrow he would be rebated his original investment, and he was. He just received a 1099misc for 36k marked as other income. To my way of thinking this is return of capital and should not have generated a 1099. Does anyone have a thought of where to put this a his tax form. These properties are sfr rental property.
