  1. Hello Everyone, Married Filing Jointly. Husband moved to Missouri (from IL) to work at the store/business (50% owner) after 04/01/2009. He has been there since then, and has been collecting income through W2 ($13,950 for year 2009). He also had profit on the partnership of $10,218 (for year 2009). He will be staying there and working until partnership is able to sell the store. As far as state return goes, what do i need to file? Missouri part-year resident for Husband and non-resident for Wife, AND Illinois part-year resident for Husband and full-year resident for Wife? OR Missouri non-resident for Husband and non-resident for Wife, AND Illinois full-year resident for Husband and full-year resident for Wife? It's kinda little late, so i hope it makes sense. Thank you in advance!
  2. I ordered mine and just received it yesterday. Call their customer support (tech) and they will help you to download it.
  3. Thank you for the suggestion. I will keep that in mind for the next year. It's for Illinois. The return was rejected due to SS number of dependent not being correct. Thank you.
  4. Next year will be second year of my tax business. What do you say if someone new comes for a return on Apr 13th? I am tempted not to accept return after April 10th next year, but afraid of bad publicity. Suggestions?
  5. Thank you for the PM. Per my knowledge the house was used for first two months as personal. I will dig in deeper on this issue this week, and file amendment if necessary. I am not sure the following matters but... Current tenant will be moving out this month, and they are not planning to rent it out (as client told me). ------------------------------------ Now ? for the next year: I have a BS in accounting, and studying for CPA. Passed one, three more to go. This was the first year of the business. I really really missed having someone to advice on the issues i am not aware such as above. Is it possible to get someone to provide an advice for next year if i get stuck or need help on any issues related to taxes? (not through forum or email - phone) Of course, i am not expecting it for free. May be pay per hour charge/incident charge/or combination of both. Of course, i am not asking for an hour a day. May be just 15 to 20 mins when ever needed. Please advice if this would be a good idea.
  6. does all softwares have same problem on or around april 15th? (proseries and such)
  7. This is not good for the first time tax preparer. I wasn't expecting this. I started having funny feeling in my stomach. I hope it's gonna be just fine after 6pm as you said.
  8. Return is done and given to Client. I hope i did it right. I went ahead and counted as vacation home, so depreciation was limited. Thanks!
  9. Thank you. Yes, the net income before depreciation came out to be around $500. Total depreciation was $2866, but only allowed to use $500, and other will be carryover. Per your responses, it looks like i have done it correctly. Let's see what happens. Thank you for all your help, and sorry for being not so clear at first (client comes in yesterday (14th) with so much of a backup -- as a first timer it freaked me out). :-)
  10. Sorry for being not clear.. Let's me try again.. Currently, Client owns two houses. One house is being used as a primary residence, and second was given for rent on March 5, 2007. Current tenant will move out during April 08. Client is not sure if they would be renting it out or not after that point. How do i report the rental income and the mortgage interest and real estate taxes paid on the rental property? This is what i have done. Please tell me if i am doing it correctly or not. Added Schedule E, page 1 Reported Income & related expenses as mentioned above Did the depreciation (as allowed after taking the expenses - mortgage interest & real estate taxes) --------------------- Net Loss/Income = $ 0.00 Do i need to give Form 4562 & 8582 to Client?
  11. I have a return in which client owns two house/two mortgages. One is used by them, and second one is rented in March 2007. Current tenant will be moving out in this month, and client is not sure if they would rent it again. I need help on how to complete Sch E. PLEASE!

True. I had to e-file one yesterday, and found out they don't accept PNR e-file.
  17. but the current address on the data sheet is of IL, would that be ok?
  18. Hello, I have return for the client who current is IL resident, but was resident of NJ in 2007. While doing his return, i have a current IL address under data tab of NJ1040. I did not enter county & municipality code. Now, it giving me an error saying "Enter county/municipality code" when i try create an e-file. question? do i need to enter county & municipality code? And if yes, then what should i enter... NJ's or IL's?
  19. Hello everyone, I have a client who was a resident of MI for half of the year, and moved to IL after 6/1/07 permanently. While doing state returns, do i need to show income earned while resident of MI on IL's return, and then take the credit for taxes paid to MI? Or do i show income earned in IL on IL's return, and income earned in MI on MI's return? Thanks,
  20. Thank you for all your replies. Client chose to file as single even though it results in more tax.
  21. I had a same problem. But it works perfectly now.
  22. Hello Guys, Situation: I have a client living in US (permanent resident), who is married but wife and kid lives in India (never been in US). I am assuming he provides half the support for both of them since they do not have any other source of income in India. Can he claim either of them on his tax return (1040)? I know that he may need to fill out form W7 and request TIN#. Please advise, and if any info needed then please let me know. Thank you in advance. On the side note: His last year's tax return has SINGLE as a filing status (though he was married, and wife was in India). I am not sure if this will cause any problems to him.
  23. I was hoping not to have more questions, but ........... 1) What do i need to keep for my record? Can i keep PDF files instead of actual copies of a return? 2) Do i need to give copies of Form 8879 & IL-8453 to client? Thank you in advance.
