  1. I don't get too many at home, but on my work phone, easily a dozen or more each week.  Since most of my clients use email rather than call, I virtually never answer the business phone.  If I see it's a local number, I might, but even then a lot of times it's robocalls.  Drives me nuts.

  2. I saw one of these a couple weeks ago, the fraud/indentity verification dept is sending them out.  I'd never seen one before either, but verified the phone number as their fraud unit.

Hope everyone is smart enough to check these out with us!

  3. Hmm, wouldn't have thought of trade associations, I'll look into that, thanks!  i do have a couple of tax firms that don't do accounting, but referrals have been slow lately.

I'm definitely one who hates the selling/network aspect of business!  Particularly since it's been 15-20 years since I needed to do that kind of stuff.  I don't get out much any more due to physical limitations.

Interesting to see what others are doing!

  4. For those of you who do year-round business accounting, how do you go about finding new clients these days?  It's been over 10 years since I've had to look, so the whole world of marketing has changed.  My biggest client sold his business to a national chain, so I have to find a couple new ones.  And it's very different from looking for tax clients.  Just curious what kinds of things other folks are doing.  I'm looking for small to medium sized companies, but not tiny sole props, or non-profits.

  5. Is there a checkbox somewhere that allows for printing "E-Filed" on the client's signature line of 1040s and state returns, or do we have to do it manually on every return?

I've always used the old IRS e-file stickers, but my stash of those finally ran out.  I don't like sending clients returns with those lines blank, I prefer to "idiot-proof" them to make it very clear that it's been e-filed.

  6. Just under 3 years old, but that day is my earliest memory. The TV, my sibs trickling home from school and dropping to the floor in front of the TV, no one moving, no one getting up to turn on lights as it got dark. Too young to appreciate the horror of what had happened, of course, but I remember how stunning it was to me that no one was moving or talking or turning on lights, that dinner time came and went and no one cared.

  7. I noticed on the EFTS deposit it wanted a break down of the deposit. At the time I make the deposit I do not correctly know these number. Do I have to do this and when I file the 941 what happens if I have a wrong amount applied to lets say FWH. Does this create a problem? Just asking. Thanks

It doesn't matter - you can just leave the breakdown screen blank. Not sure what they use it for - I've always assumed forecasting. But I do way to many deposits to waste time with anything that isn't required!

  8. I know there have been several discussions about the changes to the billing invoice this year, but I haven't found an answer for this situation. I bill by form, but don't use the Form Statement at all. I want everything to show on the Invoice, with prices - as it always used to. I check the boxes for Print charge amount for forms etc, and Display forms with no charge.

Anyone else have the same issue, and found the fix? Sometimes it works the way I want, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes if I go to another form and come back, it will be there, sometimes not.

  9. I was one of the ones who signed up early. I'm thrilled that I got in at the lower price, but I am NOT thrilled that CCH got back involved. The main reason I went with buying through TRX wasn't the price, it was that they supported the software. Which is more than I can say for CCH last season. I dread the thought of going through another year with CCH.

  10. Thank you indeed!! I couldn't get through the season without popping in here for some relief! Thanks to Eric for setting us up with this, to TAXBILLY for being the Birthday Fairy and letting us all know when to celebrate, and to everyone for the advice, laughs, vents and all kinds of interesting tidbits.

  11. Finishing my last two today. A few appts for dropping off 8879s and picking up paperwork. Hoping to get everything submitted by this evening so I'm not here all night on the 15th waiting for acks.

Tomorrow should be just waiting for acks and doing my own extension, and working on accounting clients. Then the phones go off for a four-day weekend!!
