  1. My mom is doing taxes for my grandparents and we have a question about Line 23c. Instructions for line 23c states 'the real estate taxes must be taxes that would have been deductible on Sch A (Form 1040) if you had itemized your deductions'.

Since my grandparents have never itemized and will not itemize this year, can they still include what they paid for real estate taxes?

  2. That still doesn't answer why the two groups reversed themselves within the two categories, but oh well.

You didn't hear? With the new ATX update, there was an addition of the W2 fairy. There was some concern that the forms were thinking of starting a revolt and leave ATX for good. ATX had to send in a peacemaker, but living quarters were sparse and they coaxed the fairy into joining their escapade. I guess the plan back fired, because the W2 fairy was doing all sorts of quirky things to annoy the creators. I'm surprised you didn't read about this? It's been all over the news lately..

    wow.

It's been a long day! Is it 5PM yet?

  3. Caribou, ME

    (1) Original Home of ATX

    (2) One of the biggest producers for Potatoes & Broccoli

    (3) The Caribou Public Library is a Carnegie library, which was built on a grant from Andrew Carnegie.

    (4) The band PHISH had a following of more than 70,000 fans when they performed one of their last ever shows right outside of Caribou.

I would have had 5, but Kerry stole my #1 thought - "Home of Kyle Thibodeau and Kerry Crandall."

  4. Does anyone know of a tax related site out there that has everything tax? Like an encyclopedia of tax rules, laws, regs, pubs, advice, etc etc etc and so on? And if there is, is it user friendly and easy to find anything you're looking for?

  5. I'm glad to hear that Tom got you squared away. I really do enjoy being able to get the help needed to you, and all of you for that matter. It makes me feel warm even with all the cold weather we've been having.

    Yes.

I know - that was corny, but you know what I mean.

  6. I don't see why they can't just link to the IRS database which has all the EFIN's, so that way when the EFIN is entered in, it will automatically be checked with the IRS system and shown as correct or incorrect. At that point you could just e-file, or change accordingly and then send. Would be a great way to cut down on the people calling in for this error and would relieve alot of headaches most of you experience. It really doesn't seem it would take all that much effort to create the code for that. You guys should put that in as a suggestion and maybe they'll implement it for next year.
