JackieCPA
Client donated two cars. Value is found to be $500 for each of them. The place he donated to said that they don't give 1098-C or other written acknowledgement when the value isn't over $500. I still feel like they need some sort of written acknowledgement of the donation, yes?
Gail in Virginia
I don't think that they need to do the form showing the valuation that is required for vehicles over $500, but it would still be nice if they gave a receipt that just said he had donated cars for nothing in return. Even Goodwill gives that for bags of used clothing.

The taxpayer will need the same written acknowledgement that should be given for any contribution of $250 or more but that is not more than $500. Please see pub 4302 pages 3 and 7 for more details. https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p4302.pdf Edited March 24, 2020 by jklcpa had to create link
