BCinSC
Greeting all! I am really happy to find this community. I really felt lost there for a while! I have a problem getting a return to e-file that has an adoption credit. The error message says the child must have been born in 2006. However, it was a foreign adoption and child was only 1.5 years in 2006. I have not found any reason the return cannot be e-filed but the program will not set up the e-file for transmittal. Any suggestions?
kcjenkins
I don't know what the problem is, but it's not the age of the child. You can get the credit while adopting a minor child of any age 0-18. I think you must have a typo somewhere on the adoption credit form. mcb39
KC is correct; something else is wrong. I have been e-filing the adoption credit for two years now for a family who adopted three special needs children...6 year old twins and an 8 year old boy. No glitches either year. BTW, after 15 years of marriage and right after the adoptions were finalized, this family found out they were going to be welcoming a natural child....the sweetest little girl and adored by all. Born in Dec of 2005, the couple who had no children in prior years; suddenly had four childred to claim. Made the filers nervous, but all went well and this is one of the most heart-warming returns that I have ever done.
BCinSC
Hi All! I found out that the field only needs the child's year of birth, not full date/month/year. That fixed my problem!
