Has anyone noticed that the zip code on form 3582 is different than the one called for on form 540.

Been that way for years. Even on paper Form 540, there are different zip codes depending on what you are mailing and even whether or not you used a computer. Different too for ES, extension payments, other entities, collection matters, general complaints... more than a dozen different 9-digit zips, all starting with 94257.

You're doing the mail sorting for them by using the zip code they request. They save labor costs and you have to take the time to print up an envelope that matches each time.

I print a stack of mailing labels at the beginning of the year, and just grab and slap. In my opinion, it is appropriate for the state government to efficiently shift some of the administrative burden to the users.

I do the same thing as jainen. not all are 94257. Differs also in whether the taxpayers is mailing in return & getting a refund or paying. Since I mostly efile, the ones I use the most are for the payment vouchers that go with the efiled return.

I understand the concept of different zip codes for different entities and whether you have a refund or amt due and I use preprinted labels accordingly BUT the FTB gives a zip ending in 0009 on the 540 for amt due and a zip code ending in 0008 on the 3582 form for that same amt due. No worries, I don't think they'll return a check no matter what zip you use.
