  1. You can take THAT statement to the bank!! They may fire me soon after the beta testing starts, but I will not pull any punches and intend to give the software a workout in our scenario here at the firm. Again, I will keep everyone here informed.

  2. I have been chosen to be a beta tester for the 2013 program. The head of development called me personally to ask about my lates posts on this board. He and I spent at least an hour discussing what is going to be changed for 2013. (I started the conversation telling him my total skepticism) He indicated that the developers must make "...a complete infrastructure change of the software..." for 2013 and that is what is happening. I will keep everyone apprised of what I discover. I also told him that for me to do a beta test, the program I will test must be FULL and totally operational. Not the half-baked, half the features disabled software that had been given to beta testers for 2012. He assured me that would be the case. All that said, we will still probably pull the trigger and use different software at the firm for 2013. I am hopeful, but cautiously skeptical. More information as I get it. I promise the REAL story about 2013 as I test it.

  4. Especially the Network functionality given the network related problems of ATX! Tigerdirect.com had upgrade packages cheaper than Staples or OfficeMax.

  5. mcb39 additional memory NEVER goes to waste! You will enjoy the benefits in future years as applications become more of a memory hog especially the graphic intensive applications.

  6. These are the reasons we are changing software in addition to doing the beta testing. The beta testing is in the faint hope that things will be fixed. They are still using the Raven database, but in the network scenario, how the program accesses the database is being completely reworked. He explained to me how the changes will work, and they are on the right track. "All design resources are dedicated to making the changes." I suggested to him that they need to incorporate tax professionals with computer knowledge as part of the development team. This is something they are severely lacking. Skeptically hopefull, but still changing software. The 12.16 update sealed the deal on changing software for 2013. As I posted before, I will keep everyone on this board informed as I go along.

  7. I am sure the beta-testers from this board will hold his feet to the fire and make him deliver a quality product for next season or eat his words.

  8. Terry was commenting on what he saw as inconsistencies in some of your posts. I have not bothered to look back to see if he was right, that was not MY point. I was responding to the insult you felt the need to fire at him. And the idea that he was "too late to post" is also something that we don't do here, but I understood that you are too new to the board to know that. Fact is, sometimes someone comes across an old thread that they feel a need to respond to, and that is OK here. Sometimes they just are bothered by something that they see as an inconsistency, and that is OK too. You don't have to agree, but in this case the best thing would have been to just ignore it. If not that, then you might have asked him for specifics. What you should not do is just order the poster to shut up, and especially not to then add an insult as well. Terry does not post often, and sometimes he is 'behind the curve" a bit when he comes here and tries to catch up. But that is OK, he's a good guy just the same. Please, try to be a little more tolerant and less sensitive. Sometimes it's hard to judge 'tone' when reading posts.

  9. Cathy, the $19 of dividends is not the issue. It didn't generate the notice, would not generate a notice. However, when the 1099s come in with IMPORTANT TAX INFORMATION on them, your clients should open their mail.

  10. I'm going to beta-test 2013, so I'll have an idea of how next years program is working. If its working, I'll happily stay with ATX. Remember, I'm not having big issues with 2012; the main one is the memory leaks.

  12. Eric- I find the political banter at times funny, informative and amazing. I find the ad hominem attacks totally inappropriate. I think the hijacking of threads just plain wrong and welcome the separate forum where those of us can read, post, etc without disrupting the flow of tax talk. I just caution that some political talk, is appropriate in that it affects taxes, tax planning etc. Data mining with you reviewing questionable posts is going to be very time consuming with our current breed of new posters. Perhaps a like or report button for each post would make this self monitoring and "like/report" clicks by certain members whom you trust could go to you to generate a warning?
