  2. I also think it's OK to post from any source that leads to thought on the subject, Jack. That is the real goal. I post things I don't fully agree with, fairly often, to alert the members to something, or to gain feedback from people who I respect. i.e. the members here. BTW, I fully agree when you say

  3. No one that is liberal will admit to the fact that "loopholes" = Tax law provisions as passed by Congress. I doubt if a single liberal would go along with removing all tax deductions and credits from their OWN tax return. Corporations doing this are only exercising their freedom of choice under out current tax laws. Therefore, if you yell "UNFAIR TAX LOOPHOLE" and you still take deductions and credits on your tax return, you are a mindless, selfish hypocrite! My name is Jack from Ohio and I approved this message!!!

  4. Raven, your client should definitely file a Form 1040 because the statute of limitations on assessments hasn't started until a return is filed. An SFR doesn't consititute a filing and does not start the statute of limitations running.

  7. I posted this article from Forbes, because I thought it was interesting. It doesn't mean that I agree with everything it says or that I endorse what says. If we only posted things from primary source documents only, there would be a lot fewer posts and a lot less to discuss.

  8. WRONG information: <<<In the example I give for a hypothetical argument for a prescription exemption, I wrote that somebody would argue they could afford $100 but not $123. Actually, with the proposed Fair Tax it would be $130.>>> The price would be $100.00. $23 of the $100 would be sent in as tax. This is the most INTENTIONALLY quoted error. Example: If you have $40,000 income and you pay Federal tax of 25%, your income is still only have $40,000. The savings by the seller and or manufacturer would be the taxes that they would NOT pay. I think cbslee should only be quoting information from the books put out by the group that created the Fair Tax idea. Intentionally sending WRONG information out is the lowest form of political actions there is. For my part, the Congress will NEVER replace the tax code. They feed and thrive on the power to tax the populace and will never give that up. Period.

  10. But you missed the point in the original post. In this case, there IS a significant error in the SFR so a correct original should be filed. Then, the amount owed, if some is still owed, can then be negotiated.

  11. No need to file an amended if you have not filed an original. An original filed return will supersede the return created by the IRS. However, it is far too late to expect any refund. However, if the client owes tax, he will be liable for it. Offer in Compromise will not even be considered until ALL returns are filed up to date.

  12. Ignore her ignorance and sleep well. She is trying to intimidate you. I do NOT provide e-file service for self prepared returns. It is just as much work as preparing it from scratch. You are better off without her as a customer. Maybe you could call her and ask for some legal document or work at a seriously reduced price because you have looked up and researched all the information.
