  1. "The IRS began sending out letters from the Automated Collection System function in June, and restarted the income tax levy program in July. In addition, responsible officers continue to work on nonfiler cases and are sending out notices and billing notices; however, their focus is primarily on egregious cases, such as high-income non-filers, according to Mankowski. “Unfortunately, there’s still a backlog of paper, and until that’s cleared there will be people that efiled and mailed in their check, the check cleared, but they get notices saying they never paid,” he said. “That’s the downside of restarting the program. They have to do it because otherwise people will get complacent when they think there’ll be no repercussion for not paying.” “The phone lines are still backlogged due to taxpayers not getting their refunds,” he explained. “They have to go through manual processing, mostly for returns that had additional stimulus funds. Because of time constraints, the IRS didn’t have time to fully reconfigure their computers to recalculate the additional credits due for the additional stimulus money. I tell my clients that if they don’t owe and have proof of payment, hold off on responding to the notices.”

  2. Well, now I see it too. I'll delete it. You're very welcome! I host websites for a number of municipalities, banks, and hospitals, and they all seem to be common targets for brute force attacks, which can cause very high server load when multiple are ongoing simultaneously. I'm working on mitigating those attacks, because I feel like these issues crop up on this website when the server bogs down due to the load.

As the IRS is attempting to reduce the backlog, Austin and Fresno have been tapped to help process Form 941. As of mid-July, approximately 1.8 million forms have not yet been processed. For returns prior to 2021, 11,000 are still in inventory. These figures are for Form 941 returns — they don’t include Form 940, or Form 941X amended returns" Wow, 1.8 Million unprocessed Form 941s. I have have been wondering about this, because I have several 941s that I should have received a letter or a refund check?

I'm seeing this played out, as a half-dozen of my clients are dealing with unpaid refunds or penalty notices due to IRS not having processed their 2nd quarter 941 prior to processing their 3rd quarter 941. (or a smilar scenario with other back-to-back quarters) Therefore, their overpayment from the 2nd quarter was not applied to their 3rd quarter 941 and a notice for failure to deposit has been generated. The largest one was hit with a $900 P&I assessment, which I told him to pay in order to avoid a levy, and to not expect it to be refunded for 6 months or more. The upside is that he wil be paid interest at a rate better than anything he can get right now. (Fortunately he can afford to wait and he likes the idea of the iRS paying him interest.)

  6. I swore that I responded earlier. I was getting that 2S119/1 error in the back end of the site. I cleared/rebuilt the software's template cache and those errors went away. Hopefully they went away on the front end of the site as well. So far, so good it seems

  7. I have talked to Max W about his issue--he was trying to do a password reset I believe but wasn't able to receive any emails from the site. I think that was more of an email system issue, probably related to an overzealous spam filter on the provider end of things. These other problems are unrelated. The server experienced a period of extremely high load earlier today, and I suspect the login issues were related. I'm making sure there aren't any lasting issues as a result, so please let me know if any of the login problems persist.
