  1. I think its an issue with this particular return. The other returns I have done that are not ready for efile are fine, even zero due returns. But this return has all the state efile documents included and completed however, the client letter states that the return must be mailed. Ive gone over every form multiple times and dont see anything incorrect or missing. I think I have to call tech support on this one. Thank you for the replies.

  2. I cant figure out how to mark the State return as being efiled. There is no refund or tax owed. It continues to show up on the client instructions as being mailed. I know I am probably missing something obvious. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

  3. I prefer Brother Laser printers for the ability and ease and cost savings of refilling the toner cartridges. Refill for 20% or less of the cost of new. Each toner cart can be reused at least 2 times, with some as much as 4.

Same here. I just bought a brother HL-2270DW wireless for about $90 at Staples. Bought two non Brother laser carts for about $22 on Amazon. I have used a Brother HL-5250DN for the past 5 years and it was very good.

  4. My practice is relatively small because I prepare my returns (in the evenings and on weekends) outside of my normal day job. I have about 125 clients. Each year, I find one or two that tend to go elsewhere, either due to a relocation or "just because." I have maintained a consistent client base and I find I add a few each year, so the at the end of the season I tend to have more than what I started with.

My practice is very similar and holds around the 100 or so mark. All word of mouth. If they leave, they either die or move out of state. However, I have retained several that have moved out of state, which always surprises me.

  5. I thought this year HAS to be better than last year. Purchased a new custom built PC, Laser Printer, 27" Monitor, Keyboard/Mouse combo & router for a total cost >$2,500. Reviewed several different tax software packages and decided to return to ATX after a 3 year hiatus (about 15 years with ATX total). Three weeks ago the PC arrived from CA to PA 10 days after ordering it. Took about two weeks to set everything up and re install several years of tax software and I'm ready to go. Except, this morning I turn it on and after it boots up it POOF, it goes dark. Appears to be the power supply. So much for a top of the line Cosair 750w Gold Power supply with a 5 year warranty. Ordered a new on from Tiger Direct with 2 day shipping (never had to use that before) and it should arrive on Monday 16. Hopefully it didn't damage any other components. Now if its not the power supply or it did damage other components I will be using older hardware or a new laptop.

    So much for no pressure!

  6. I have never heard of this, but then again I havent thoroughly researched.

    Edit.

    See here: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/indiv/research/indepth/ebonds/res_e_bonds_eetaxconsider.htm#when

When must I report the interest on my tax form?

You have a choice. You can

    • report the interest every year
    • put off (defer) reporting the interest until you file a federal income tax return for the year in which the first of these events occurs:

  7. ATX has released the 2012 TaxWise To ATX conversion programs and manuals for both individual and business here http://atxinc.com/conversions/

You will need to download and update the 2012 version of ATX before beginning.

    1. Download the appropriate conversion programs (Individual, Business) and manuals

2..Confirm that both 2012 TaxWise & 2012 ATX programs are installed to their default locations on the C: or you will need to adjust for their locations when you run the conversion programs.

    3. Install the selected conversion program and run it. Confirming that the locations of both 2012 TaxWise & 2012 ATX are correct.

    4. Open 2012 ATX and select Returns>Import>Converted Returns to imported the converted returns into the 2012 ATX program.

It appears that all of my 2012 TaxWise returns were converted and imported into 2012 ATX (individual & business). I spot checked a few returns and basic information appears correct. The conversion instructions state limitations with converting items such as totals, details and various schedules. I have not yet checked items such as depreciation but I dont expect them to convert 100%. Nor have I rolled over any of the converted returns into the 2013 ATX software yet. I prefer to wait for more updates to 2013 before rolling over.

    Good luck.

  8. Not to hijack this thread, but those of you who ordered 2013 Taxbooks they are shipping this week. UPS just dropped off mine right now :)

Im considering purchase a Taxbook for this year. I have never tried it. I tired CCH's books for a few years but wasnt thrilled with them. They all seem overpriced to me.
