  1. FYI. While not an income tax item but PA imposes an inheritance tax on children of ~4.5% on ALL assets including the child's portion of any joint accounts held with the deceased. I believe the tax is due within 9 months of the DOD. Possibly this was handled by an attorney if there was a probated will.

  2. you have missed something because I never have to add my default state on any return I rollover. Do you have your preference checked for your state or do you have all?

i have my state set as default in the settings but it doesnt add it to a rolled over return. I think its because I converted from Taxwise in 2012 and they only convert fed info.

  3. I wouldn't let an auto mechanic work on my car either. An auto technician maybe. I am one and teach auto technology. Cars are tough today. Also, there are alot of kids coming through HS that can't do the basic functions in life such as write a check. Hence the personal finance class we now have.

Just after graduating High School in 1979 I enrolled in Auto Tech school and graduated with a certificate in combustion engine restoration. Spent a month working at an auto dealership where all I was allowed to do was change oil and do undercoating. I enrolled in college the very next month. I wouldn't know where to start on an engine in today's cars.

  4. No server issues, Im on stand alone. I agree with the ed. credit input and Home Office sheet but I can live with them. I hate having to add my default state on every rolled over return. Maybe I missed something but I always have to add it manually.

I left ATX in 2010 (after about 15 years ) for TaxWorks and I was very happy with it vs. ATX. I would have stayed with them given the choice. After getting full tax software packages for the last three years for $400 ATX is a bit more expensive and I don't see any additional value.

  5. Nothing takes the wind out of my sails more than when I make a stupid mistake. For example a client moved to a new city during the year and I transposed two digits on their zip-code. Client caught it before the returns were filed so it wasn't a big deal but it still leaves me with that embarrassed, incompetent feeling. I'm surprised ATX didn't catch that the zip didn't match the city/state.

  6. I am impressed that you meet clients that late! I am sitting at the computer in sweat pants and barefoot. . . Eating nacho cheese doritos and trying not to turn anyone's paperwork orange.

I know I'm near the end of my rope . . . I'm really funny about food, and I cook/eat very healthy. My husband and son got pizza hut last night, and tonight I told them to eat leftover pizza hut (as if one night wasn't bad enough) and I'm eating Nacho Cheese Doritos.

My cutoff is usually 8pm but this is a "special" client, and not in a good way. I really need to reign in some clients. They think that because you work out if your home hours are flexible. This special client called at the beginning of tax season .... at almost 2am. Apparently, I didnt scare her away. Maybe the bill will this year.

  7. Everything, I mean every. single. return., is waiting for information.

Well that was my situation this weekend. Very nonproductive weekend.

And as usual today they all decide to bring in missing information and a whole slew of clients brought in their tax info because they wanted to make it in before the 3/31 deadline I told them was the cutoff for extensions. SHEESH!

Also, Im waiting for my last client of the day who was supposed to be here at 9pm but called at 9:05 and said she was running 10 minutes late ... Its almost 9:45!
