  1. Thank you so very much for all your work and effort. A big thanks to the moderators as well. I am intimately aware of how much work it is.

Please do not be shy if the need for funds becomes a reality. This site is more help than I can describe. I get answers to questions by reading other posts. Many times the exact information I need is there.

    THANK YOU ERC!!

  2. Does Indiana allowing for efiling the IT40PNR? I can't get the ATX program to establish the efile file correctly. Thanks.

I live 12 miles from the Indiana border. Neither the IT40PNR, nor the IT40RNR can be e-filed.

I have about 15 of them a year.

  3. Does anyone know how long it takes to get your fee from fee collect?

I prepared a return and according to the IRS the direct deposit should have been made on the 15th, but with fee collect it did not show on the 15th (yesterday). when can I expect it so I can tell my client.

    Choose Bank Manager

Then choose reports at the top.

    Then choose Fee Report

Everything you want to know about all bank products, including Fee Collect, will be there. It will even print.

  4. I am totally confused by this thread. When I enter any amount in the SS income worksheet, the totals show in 20a. Only the taxable part shows in 20b. What is the concern? I tried it in all possible scenarios, and the number shows in 20a every time. ATX changed that in the 2006 program. In 2005 it would only show if there was taxable SS.

Am I the only one that know this? If is shows on the form, it will be sent with the e-file. For the elderly who do not believe in e-file, if it shows on the screen, it prints as well.

    Just call me confused?????

  5. >>All the information you need is here:<<

... except how much they're going to get! Occasionally one of our clients might be interested in that minor detail. My software is calculating an estimate of that figure for each return I do.

    From the IRS website...

<"If you are eligible for a payment, all you have to do is file a 2007 tax return and the IRS will do the rest," said Acting IRS Commissioner Linda Stiff.>

< The IRS will use information on the 2007 tax return filed by the taxpayer to determine eligibility and calculate the amount of the stimulus payments.>

<The IRS will mail two informational notices to taxpayers advising them of the stimulus payments. However, taxpayers should be alert for tax rebate scams such as telephone calls or e-mails claiming to be from the IRS and asking for sensitive financial information. The IRS will not call or e-mail taxpayers about these payments nor will it ask for financial information. Scam e-mails and information about scam calls should be forwarded to [email protected].>

    <Notices

Most taxpayers will receive two notices from the IRS. The first general notice from the IRS will explain the stimulus payment program. The second notice will confirm the recipients' eligibility, the payment amount and the approximate time table for the payment. Taxpayers will need to save this notice to assist them when they prepare their 2008 tax return next year.>

I choose not to get into the "predict the future" game when it comes to the actions, calculations, or follow-through of the IRS. There is nothing I can do to change what will happen.

  6. Will a person who receives SSI benefits be eligible for the tax rebate? Will they have to file a return to receive this money?

Thanks for your speedy reply. :)

Dividends, interest and capital gains income is not included when determining qualifying income. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) does not count as qualifying income for the stimulus payment. Also not included in qualifying income are non-veterans or non-Social Security pension income (such as those from Individual Retirement Accounts).

All the information you need is here:

You should probably get very familiar with all the points. You will certainly need to know them.

  7. I am trying to create an efile and have a problem with the Zip Code area. I get an error that the Employer zip code on the W-2 is wrong. Well....it isn't according to the taxpayer and the employer. I also looked it up on the Internet and found the same zip code. I tried to just leave the zip code off and then get an error message that eo efile the zip code has to be on the form..... By the way we used the same zip code and efiled last year. Going around in circles here!

Try deleting the entire zip code field, and re-enter. Sometimes a stray space before or after the number gets in there.

  8. Will we be able to efile the returns for the people that have social security benefits, interest income etc with to tax liability with a ZERO tax on them? That will determine what I will charge for them. We should not have any problem on these returns with the social security numbers and name match because we will have the ss 1099 with their names and ss numbers on them. What do you guys think? Saves a tree if we do not have to print the return to mail and save the postage.

    Yes

  9. No for me the best way is for ATX to fix this problem. What other nuances are yet undiscovered. I've made my decision - I'm jumping ship (provided they refund me my money) while I still have a ship to jump from. Time is money and I've wasted too much. It's too bad...I really do like ATX...when it's working. C Carolyn

I hate to sound like the pesimist, but I have a feeling that the chances of either of those things happening is very slim. Since CCH took over the helm, caring about the customer is a thing of the past.

Just for the record, at our firm we will do 3,000+ returns this season. Jumping ship, even between seasons is a major undertaking. That being said, we will probably use another program next year.

  10. If you have a router, you do NOT need any software firewalls. The router, by its very nature has a hardware firewall in it. Turn off ALL software firewalls, reboot, and try again. Also turn off all "system protection" programs, except your anti-virus.

  11. We have a number of these small towns around here. What I do is enter the address with both the street and box address. ( ex.: 120 W Main St PO Box 420) This seems to make everyone happy.

I do exactly what you do, Taxman. Our PO says you can't get street delivery within a 1/4 mile of PO, which includes about 1/2 the town, including me. Using both solves the problem, at least here.

I have always used both. Solves the problem all around. A simple one-time fix. Not a new problem or a new solution.

  12. My understanding is that non-mortgage interest goes on Line 16b - what other reason is it there for. Yes we can MAKE this work by moving it to "Other expenses" but gosh shouldn't this program do things right?

There is the best way (line 16b) or there is a good way that works (line 48). At the firm here, we looked at the options...

    1) Paper file aprox 1,500 returns instead of e-file (by using line 16b).

    2) Move the interest to line 48 and e-file the same 1,500 returns.

It was a difficult decision, but we chose #2.

  13. There is another thread about this down below " schedule c errore (error spellt wrong in the thread). I encountered this yesterday and just spent a frustrating hour with support trying to tell them this is a programming error. The ATX rep I discussed this with had no clue about taxes and kept putting me on hold. I kept insisting this is an error..finally she said she'd put me through to Programming...oh but there is a long hold for that. I lost it - couldn't wait any longer had appointments to keep.

So far I haven't had one decent answer to any of my support phone calls - I don't know why they even pretend to have support this year. I'm done. I need another solution quickly.

    Carolyn

The solution is to put the interest on line 48 marked as "Other Interest" and remove it from line 16. The programmers are DEAD WRONG. William Trasker sent me an e-mail directly telling me it was a program problem, and it would be fixed in 24 hours. That was about 14 days ago. Apparently CCH thinks it knows more about ATX and tax law than William. Boy are they proving how stupid they (CCH) are!!

Support is a useless waste of payroll. I will bet anyone a steak dinner at the restaurant of their choice, that the person who decided to dismantle Caribou Maine, has NEVER TOUCHED a tax return. Any takers??

  14. Good evening everybody. Got a client who was a part-year Ohio Resident as well as a part-year Illinois resident

in 2007. Can I e-file BOTH state returns with the Federal? Are there any special steps that I need to do to accomplish this

other than check the state piggyback boxes?

    Booger (Perplexed & Confused)

Part year Ohio can be e-filed, I am not sure about part year Illinois. If the client lived part year in a taxing school district, the part year SD CANNOT be e-filed. If you try, the System at the state will change it to full year and send your client a bill...

Been there many times last year. The information telling that the part year SD100 cannot be e-filed is burried very deep.

  15. Has this been fixed? I'm having the same problem. I saw there was an update and I downloaded it but I'm still getting the error.

It has NOT been fixed yet. I know what this says about their (CCH) priorities. They should NOT have laid off all the QUALIFIED people from Maine.

Yes, I have sent e-mails, and yes, I have sent suggestions, but I REFUSE to wait for an hour or more on tech support just to find out that they really have no idea what the problem means, much less how to fix it.

We should all e-mail the text from the posts to all the upper management at CCH. Don't think it will do any good, but... I have a bigger issue with the way e-file errors are (not) reported on the returns.
