  1. I have had banks reject the deposit - sometimes for stranger reasons than that. It usually takes about 4 - 6 weeks for t/p to get check after rejection, in my experience in prior years. State of Virginia is sometimes faster even with this. I have not had it happen this year (yet!) so can't be sure your experience will be the same as mine from previous years.

I had the credit union here in my small town (15,000) reject 5 of mine for that very reason. They were being "TOO" picky. They were standing on the exact letter of the rule, instead of just putting it in the account. Every bank has their own standards, and most have forgotten who truly is the customer.

  2. Eli,

Snow in Texas is a bad four letter word. hard on our cattle and people.

1:30am and its 62 degrees light rain. spring is on the way in this neck of the woods

Why don't you just gloat as the rest of us are turbocharging our snowblowers...

  3. First efile reject of the season for me...

...THE CRUX: Anyone know if "Form: RET 1040 PG00 Seq: 1" in a rejection actually refers to the first dependent on the return?

    Elfling

This is exactly the same I am fighting. Read about my experience (adventure?) here:

    http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?showtopic=1434

CCH changed the way the reject information is reported on the return, and even on the MyAtx site, it is incomplete. You will need to call the IRS e-help desk to get the information you seek. Last year, the software provided the information. I guess this is an "improvement?"

My computer knowledge makes me think that the information is being truncated for some reason. There is no sequence 1 on any form. Page 00 is right before the first page. It should read something like:

Form: RET 1040 PG00X Seq: 1X (or XXX)

I have submitted e-mails, and suggestions. I think I wasted my bandwith doing that. I am not even attempting to call "tech" support.

  4. Here is the official word... We DO NOT have any control over who gets or how much they get. That is what I am telling the hundreds of questions we are getting. I also tell folks not to spend it till they have it in hand.

The Administration and Congress have agreed to an economic growth package that would provide advance payments to many Americans. More details will be available soon, but here are some highlights:

    • Starting in May, the Treasury will begin sending stimulus payments to more than 130 million individuals. The stimulus payments will go out through the late spring and summer.
    • The vast majority of people receiving a payment only need to file a 2007 tax return as they normally would. The IRS will then do all the rest, including determining eligibility and payment amounts.
    • The Treasury will work to quickly implement this important stimulus package. Additional details on timing of the check mail-outs will be available soon.
    • The IRS.gov Web site will be the best source of information for all stimulus questions. This web page will contain all the latest information as it becomes available.
    • The IRS and Treasury will be working closely with the Department of Veterans Affairs and Social Security Administration along with beneficiary organizations to ensure that all eligible individuals know what to do to receive a stimulus payment.

  5. Dependent child's date of birth is 12/24/1991. (Makes her 16 at end of 2007 tax year) Efile will not go through, with the rejection

saying that tax payers can not take the child tax credit for this child. Am I missing something?

Have the parents check with SS to see what birthdate is on file. The IRS has been sporadic about verifying birthdates, but they do it sometimes.

I had a client find out he was 2 years closer to retirement with this same error. The first time he ever e-filed, we got the mismatch error. Looked up his Birth Certificate, and POOF!, he went from 59 to 61, and the e-file got accepted.

  6. I have never heard of this before. Teenage babysitter watched 3 kids for a family who paid her $3 per hour. Now they [evidently] want to claim the child care credit and are asking for her SSN.

That would be self-employment income to the teenager. My initial thought is to tell them to get lost - if the teenager had known this would become taxable income to her, she never would have accepted $3 per hour!!

She doesn't have to provide her SSN, does she?

I would not advise any client to try to "hide" taxable income. Setting a bad example, isn't it?

The folks that paid her, can claim it anyway, and provide the IRS with name and address. It isn't ethical, (In my NOT SO HUMBLE OPINION) to suggest not providing the SS#. It will only be a few dollars, and a very CHEAP lesson about how life is going to be later. I would instead, teach the teen a bit about work, pay, taxes, etc. Most don't get any training about these matters from their parents.

  7. Had a rejected return tonight. From within the program, the "display rejection error" was useless. Found a quick way to trace the error. Hopefully it will help someone else:

Log on to "MyATX", then E-File Center, then E-File Status...click on the "Rejected Return" tab and click on the social security number for your rejected client....then click on "Federal Reject History".....it then gives you the Form, Sequence # and Reject Code. Found this a lot more desirable than from within the program....for now, at least!

This did not work for my situation. I could see that it was a W-2, and I know the sequence number, but I cannot determine which of the 4 W-2s it is. See my thread here...

  8. Does someone is having problems to print a return?

Since two days ago I start having problems to print my returns, I'm using an HP LaserJet 1022 same printer for the last three years. The only solution for this is turn off my computer and start again, some times when I start my ATX program it start printing the return that couldn't print before. Is someone having this kind of problem?

Everything looks right, when I check printer status I see the documents waiting for print.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you

The problem you are describing is an issue with your printer software. Is your printer on the accepted list by ATX? I have used many printers not on the list, but I am not familiar with yours. It seems that when you send a document to print, the printer que in the software gets "stuck." When you turn off, or reboot your computer, the printer software resets, and starts processing the documents in the que. I have no certain fix, but I would un-install the printer and its software, reboot, then reinstall.

  9. If the tax withheld is 1.2% of the Local wages shown, you needn't do anything. From the Evendale website

" How do I know if I am required to file a return?

All Village of Evendale residents are subject to the tax and are required to register with the Tax Department and file an annual Evendale Income Tax Return. All non-residents with income taxable to the Village of Evendale that was not fully withheld by an employer are required to file an Evendale Income Tax Return."

So, if he was fully withheld, he owes nothing and is not required to file. Nearly all employers in the taxing municipalities fully withhold the appropriate amounts and filing is not required unless there are other potentially taxable issues. If he was self-employed while living in Evendale, he would have to file and pay tax on net profit, for example. My guess is that he is fine without filing.

I would agree completely with Margaret. That is how I handle residents of another state the work in Ohio. I am 90 miles from Kentucky, and 20 miles from Indiana. We see lots of out of town tapayers that work in Ohio.

  10. Have you gotten a status update in the program of "Rejected" for the return? If so, you can go to the E-Service tab, select the return, go to the toolbar at the top, click E-File, then select Display rejection errors. That should open the reurn and show the errors which will be more specific. The message will include the Payer number and will indicate which W-2 has the bad employer EIN.

And the error you quoted indicates that the EIN isn't valid. If the numbers have all been entered correctly but you get the same rejection, your client may need to get the W-2 corrected or mail the return.

This is what I get when I follow your steps:

This time it says Form W-2, Occurence 00 and Sequence 1.

Field 1 does not exist. Occurence 00 would indicate the W-2 prior to the first one. Do I sound Frustrated??

This is exactly the same information I get (from the e-file error choice in the return) for every rejected return I have gotten. That infomation is totally useless, and is different than in years past. The client had exactly the same W-2s last year with exactly the same EINs.

Either the programmers for ATX or the "wise" folks at CCH changed the way the error is reported in the program. The previous format would have said:

Form W-2 Occurence (number here) Field (number here)

Then it was a simple matter of going to the proper W-2, using the reference page in the 1345A, and finding which piece of data caused the error. Now, I have to go to MyAtx, open up the page, then when I click on the information, all I can see is which field and what kind of form. No way to determine which one of the 4 it is.

If you are getting more information, please tell me where and how??

  11. Sole Prop owes about 140K in Payroll Taxes 14000 in Interest and 34000 in Penalties...

Do a few OIC's a year. Mostly 1040 income and SE tax liabilities. From my experience, best case is to make a strong case for doubt of collectability. If they don't think they will get any money they will settle for payment plans of small percentages of the original amount. I am always able to get penalties and interest waived as well as the payment plan being interest free.

So now the rest of us honest people that pay our taxes, have to pay for that employer that "stole" the withholdings of his employees?? Pardon me if I don't have a lot of sympathy...

I would not even consider helping. Call me cold if you will...

  12. Quickest if you donot have 1345A is to call • E-Help Desk 866-255-0654 (IRS)

They can point out which field is incorrect.

I have the 1345A, I know which field, what I cannot determine, is which W-2 (there are 4) the error belongs to. The information USED to be included with the e-file rejection information in the return. This time it says Form W-2, Occurence 00 and Sequence 1.

Field 1 does not exist. Occurence 00 would indicate the W-2 prior to the first one. The E-file status information on MyAtx is configured for TaxWise, and NOT for ATX. I am not an amateur, but without an access to the source of the rejection, I cannot fix it. I am also not willing to wait 3 hours for TaxWise tech support for my ATX program. I am simply going to remove all W-2s, and recreate them again. That will take about 5 minutes, or 1% of the time I would wait for "tech support."

    Do I sound Frustrated??

  13. Here is what I found on MyAtx e-file information...

Reject code description:Employer Identification Number (SEQ 0040) of Form W‑2 and/or W-2GU, Payer Identification Number (SEQ 0026) of Form W‑2G, and Payer Identification Number (SEQ 0050) of Form 1099‑R and Company or Trust Identification Number (SEQ 0120) of Form 2439 must match data from the IRS Master File.

Note: Form 1099-R is ONLY required when federal income tax is withheld.

    TAXWISE CORRECTION SUGGESTION:

Verify the Employer/Payer Identification Number, HIGHLIGHTED in RED, input on the W2, W2G, or 1099R with the actual document supplied by the Taxpayer.

If incorrect, re-enter the information and re-submit the e-file.

If the information is correct, have the Taxpayer contact the issuer of the form that is rejecting to verify that the Employer/Payer Identification Number listed is their actual number.

Notice the program name on the correction suggestion? This is supposed to be ATX information...

I was looking to find the specifics about form number and field number. The information in the return is of no help, and I really don't want to play the waiting game for "tech support?"

Has anyone else found a way to get the information I am lookin for?

    UPDATE 11:04 AM EDT

OK I found the place that lists the sequence number, but still no way to determine which of the 4 W2's it applies to? Any suggestions? Anyone tread this rocky path yet this season?

  14. There are two credits - one for homeowners and one for buillders. There are 2 separate forms (can't remember the numbers but one is in the 5000 series and the other I think is in the 8000 series). The homeowners get a credit up to $500 for energy efficiency improvements, and the builders get a credit for building energy efficient homes.

    Tom

    Lodi, CA

Tom is exactly correct. Owners get improvements, builders get credit for new construction.

  15. I called Support (on hold for only 25 min). He walked me thru the process....

...So, do we have to go thru this fiasco every 45 days? And, I guess, my question is WHY?

I change the password myself on the first day of every month. Eliminates the guesswork.

  16. Have a good friend who uses Turbo Tax to do his return. Has a 6500 refund coming on Fed but TT states only getting 3700 and something about being maxed out. Anyone got a clue what is going on?? Thanks in advance.

You could tell your friend not to bother spending money on Turbo Tax and pay you your fees to prepare his return. I am assuming you are a preparer, if not, tell him to find an experienced preparer to help him. Or he could....

    "Ask the Box!"

Turbo Tax lacks accuracy in so many areas that I do not even bother discussing why it does what it does.

  17. Has ATX improved separating tax returns for the purpose of going from MFJ to MFS? I have not been able to find it, if they have.

    Terry Ohio

    Short answer = NO

    Long answer = NOPE

I do not believe they ever intend(ed) to make this a feature. I have submitted suggestions, and complained to sale people and tech people each time it talk to them, and the result has be = nothing.

It would certainly save us preparers here in Ohio a lot of time. Instead, they offer an Ohio "cities" worksheet for an additional $200. I would pay $200 for the ability to split returns.

  18. Is the 8863 or the 5695 really that complicated? It is Feb 6, and my clients should be getting refunds already! I can't believe that I am again telling clients that I don't have forms available. This is so frustrating! Do other softwares have such incredible wait times? Does ATX not have enough IT people to take care of the changes?

    Grumble Mumble.

    It is NOT ATX!!

Even if you have the forms, you cannot e-file them. Also, if you mail the return, it will NOT be processed till all the changes are in place. You can thank your Congress for making changes on Dec. 24th to the tax laws. This information has been on the IRS website since Dec. 28.

    Updated Dec. 28, 2007

The upcoming tax season is expected to start on time for everyone except for certain taxpayers potentially affected by late enactment of the Alternative Minimum Tax "patch." Following extensive work in recent weeks, the IRS expects to be able to begin processing returns for the vast majority of taxpayers in mid-January. However, as many as 13.5 million taxpayers using five forms related to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) legislation will have to wait to file tax returns until the IRS completes the reprogramming of its systems for the new law.

IRS has targeted Feb. 11, as the potential starting date for taxpayers to begin submitting the five-related returns affected by the legislation. The February date allows the IRS enough time to update and test its systems to accommodate the changes without major disruptions to other operations related to the tax season. See IRS News Release 2007-209 and these questions and answers for more information.

Returns that include the following forms cannot be filed until Feb. 11, 2008:

  19. At the firm here, we have e-file 126 returns so far. All accepted. The dual DCN number shows up when you create an e-file, then for some reason you don't file it. Then an amount of time passes and you decide to file it. I experienced this problem last year. Our firm does over 3,000 returns. Every time I have had the duplicate DCN, a simple recreate of the the e-file fixeded it right up.

We e-filed 90% last tax season.
