I agree with KC; I would only work with them if they agree to amend the prior years and come clean. If they are honest, they will - if not, I don't need the hassle of trying to keep dishonest clients from dragging me down with them.

This really is a sad commentary on our news media today. It is getting to the point where you can't believe anything that you hear on television or read in the paper because everyone has their own agenda and is slanting what they report to best support their point of view. What happened to saving the commentary for the editorial page and reporting only the facts as clearly and fairly as possible? Did that ever happen or was it always just a pipe dream that reporters paid lip service to? :(

And I think one reason that this was not caught earlier might be that in actual practice you don't usually change a check box until you know which way you want it, so changing and then changing it back for something like this on depreciation is probably not that common. At least in our office, it is not.

Catherine, I thought you did a really good job. I didn't get to hear everything as a client came in right before you were on, but what I heard was right on point. I think you got your eight-ball the same place I got mine - I never can tell which way Congress will jump for sure either! And I hope people heard what you were saying about federal law on estates and gifts being waaaayyyyyy different than state law - Massachusetts isn't the only state where that is true. Good Job!
