I gpt one of those.  The guy wanted my CPA certificate number and said someone I'd never heard of recommended me.  Then he wrote a nasty e-mail saying I was posing as a pillar of the community and I wasn't a CPA.  I told him to check with the state board.  Then he said he thought Atticus was my last name.  I finally told him I did not want him as a client

Should have told him the Jerk Store called and they were running out of him, (George Costanza).

  2. I love how those chains charge such odd numbers, which I guess is their way of calculating entry and form fees.

I would charge 150-200 depending on the time it took me.   I would probably need more than 34 minutes on the return as I'm the chief cook, bottle washer and reviewer here. My assistant only checks addresses, spelling, and does billing and packaging, etc.  Total time could be more than an hour for what you described.

  3. The Tesla S may be the first ever to make that 200K vehicle quota so make sure you get to the showroom early.  I think they're around $150K, but think of all the gas you'll be saving, until you get the bill for the new battery, yes, they need to be replaced just like any other battery and they are expensive.   Really nice automobile.

  4. It's this Wednesday.    While I'm not totally on board with this day because we don't recognize other professions.   But I can understand how important these people are to a business, helping to keep it running smoothly.

For my admin assistant, she gets flowers, shoes, and taken out to a nice dinner.  I know what's good for me, I can't handle the silent treatment if I do nothing.

  5. I also would have sold to this guy after hearing all the background info and credentials.  No way could you have known if he indeed had early dementia or if he has personal problems, or just overwhelmed with too much work.

What he does need is a good talking to.....tell him to snap out of it and pay attention to his responsibilities and work or he will pay dearly in money and career.

  6. You both gave me an idea.  Since the program does seem incomplete without the other states feature, maybe it should be negotiable as a trade off for the time wasted in Retrying and Starting Services (also makes the program incomplete).  Sort of like double entry bookkeeping for time, and time is money.   I know I'll be asking my rep, he better not laugh at me.

Joan, I think the feature is gone already,  blog said it ended 4/18.

  7. Just read that 15.8 will be here soon.  It ends the free trials for Tax Research and Credit for State taxes paid (I think ended already).  Also some fixes for # of forms,  when adding them to a return, and something with customized forms.

Hope everyone finished their multiple state returns.  I'll be interested to hear what it will cost, was a nice added touch to the program.

  8. I was impressed how they merged our first names on a glossy letter.  The way I understand it the best price is guaranteed to 5/31 although that could be negotiated  all year.  I also heard the new quote is 10% more than last year.  And so the drama begins, before you even get to catch your breath.

  9. I can understand the pressure when getting towards the end.   With a small practice like mine just under 250 returns (just me and an admin assistant) I have the luxury of being done before the deadline, with only about 15 extensions.

But when computer problems hit and giant returns trying to get completed and the clock ticking, it's just not worth the expense of things going wrong.  I admire both of your decisions and glad I'm not in your shoes, because I would have probably shot myself by now, or start drinking....more that is.

  10. Yes on taking the 2500 out pronto but you could extend the return if they give you a problem in getting to the phone on short notice (we'll be old someday too).

As for the other I have no idea other than taxable compensation is for contribution limits, maybe?

  11. Every time I tell my wife I have nothing to do the phone rings, the fax starts up, I get an email and then tomorrow morning I go to the post office so who knows.  But I'm on track to be done tomorrow.  Just missing the usual late ones, and I'm not calling them this year.
