  1. My computer has developed a really annoying problem. I can't run Quickbooks and ATX at the same time. I used to be able to have Quickbooks open while preparing an ATX return -now ATX won't respond if I have Quickbooks open. As soon as I close Quickbooks, ATX does whatever I was trying to do. It's almost like they are trying to use the same memory or something. I have 1Gig of ram on my computer, is that enough? Has anyone else ever encountered this problem? This happened with ATX2006 & 2007, and Quickbooks 2007 & 2008 . ATX 2005 works fine with Quickbooks open but not 2006 & 2007. This is driving me crazy. Carolyn
  2. Where did you see the bit about efiling business returns for next year? For me that was one of the biggest shortcomings of TRX. I switched to TRX and Drake PPR (for business returns because of my need to efile) when I could see that ATX was not going to work for me this year. TRX: There were a couple of times that I had to override calculations and one time I was very annoyed - I received a fatal error in the middle of a return and lost the return (the file got corrupted some how so when I reopened I had the same error). DRAKE: Seems to work great, the navigation (data entry screens) gets some getting used to. One thing I have noticed, I don't think I've run across an unhappy Drake user out there...I think that speaks volumes for the program Carolyn
  3. I switched...the lack of support and inconsistencies were driving me crazy. I'm trying two new software vendors: Intellitax for 1040's Drake for corporate. Yes I'm going through a learning curve...but guess what I actually have helpful support people to talk to! I'm also learning things too...I used to use the Joint box on ATX for husband/wife businesses running a schedule C business together...you know what? That's not the way it's supposed to be done...we're supposed to file 2 Schedule C's...I read the IRS instructions. I thought it was inconvenient when I couldn't do that with Intellitax..then I found out why! So though I did love the way ATX navigated and the feel of it...I'm gone unless they can really step up to the plate and PROVE it to me.. It really seems odd when they were selling me the product I got calls returned..now I'm looking for my refund...noone can pick up the phone. I've put my credit card company on to them now. Carolyn
  4. I requested a refund from CCH for my ATX software 2 weeks ago....of course it hasn't been processed yet. I'm on the phone with my credit card company as I type to report the charge as a disputed charge to protect myself. I mailed a letter, faxed a fax...nothing...and of course tried to call...but you know where that gets you....on hold forever. Unbelievable. They have successfully killed this software.
  5. I solved my problem -I switched hesitantly to TRXAlliance (intellitax under a different name). Do you want to talk about service. I bought, purchased and successfully efiled 3 returns all in the same day! They logged on my computer, converted my atx files (albeit not all them would convert) and got me going while I was out at a clients. I was very impressed. It's not just this problem which has made me switch -it's an accumulation of many. This was just the final straw. I'll probably have to fight for a refund but the terms are 30 days from delivery...ATX didn't deliver my codes until Jan 14, 2008, and never sent me a disk after purchase (I did have the enticement CD sent in December) so I don't think they have a leg to stand on. I'd take to court if I had to...I'm very PO'd at the company. It's too bad. I did like the software and hopefully MEL will get something similar going this year...for now I'll get back to SUCCESSFULLY transmitting efiles!
  6. No for me the best way is for ATX to fix this problem. What other nuances are yet undiscovered. I've made my decision - I'm jumping ship (provided they refund me my money) while I still have a ship to jump from. Time is money and I've wasted too much. It's too bad...I really do like ATX...when it's working. C Carolyn
  7. My understanding is that non-mortgage interest goes on Line 16b - what other reason is it there for. Yes we can MAKE this work by moving it to "Other expenses" but gosh shouldn't this program do things right?
  8. No, not for me. I can't file a return improperly just because the ATX program is wrong. No, I think my solution will be to switch software packages. Hard yes...but probably better than the many wasted hours I can see ahead of me using ATX. It's too bad I do like the program but man oh man...the inconsistencies and errors just don't sit well with me. I also have 941's and 944 out in never never land...no, I need to get out before my ship is sunk.
  9. There is another thread about this down below " schedule c errore (error spellt wrong in the thread). I encountered this yesterday and just spent a frustrating hour with support trying to tell them this is a programming error. The ATX rep I discussed this with had no clue about taxes and kept putting me on hold. I kept insisting this is an error..finally she said she'd put me through to Programming...oh but there is a long hold for that. I lost it - couldn't wait any longer had appointments to keep. So far I haven't had one decent answer to any of my support phone calls - I don't know why they even pretend to have support this year. I'm done. I need another solution quickly. Carolyn
  10. Has this been fixed? I'm having the same problem. I saw there was an update and I downloaded it but I'm still getting the error.

    CCH is great

FWIW - I did get through, faxed the information (to another number) and actually got an efile to go through without that error...now lets see if it comes flying back now.
  12. Gosh I don't know what to do. Support seems to be non existent with ATX. I just looked up the refund policy 30 days..from shipping. But wait...they never actually shipped me my order. I got the "promo" mailout CD's as an incentive to renew...I finally broke down and renewed on 12/31. I had to call for my install codes a few weeks ago as they didn't send them nor did I get a receipt or anything. I like the layout of ATX and demo'd several others. Ultratax is a little dear for me, I liked Taxwise but don't think I'll buy another CCH product. Drake has a loyal fan club but I can't use it - I just don't think the way it works. I am at a loss ...maybe Proseries? I just don't think this is going to get any better as tax season progresses. CArolyn

    CCH is great

Does anyone EVER answer the phone? I'm on hold for exactly the same thing. They have all of my information on file. Unbelievable. Who is going to pay the late penalties on this ?
  14. I just created a 4th quarter 2007 941 and entered all the deposits on the deposit list. This is a semi-weekly depositor so I need a schedule B. I clicked to it and was surprised it was blank - shouldn't it autofeed from the deposit entry page? Is there something I'm perhaps missing. I did check semi-weekly depositor on page 2. Carolyn
  15. I believe that phrase is under statement mailing requirements for 1099-Div, 1099-OID, 1099-PATR, and forms reporting royalties is it not? Does it apply to 1099-MISC forms and W2's....? Easy enough to add to a label ...like I said I don't have the envelopes. Does anyone know how to get 1099 recipient addresses into a format that one can print...perhaps through excel or something? Thanks Carolyn
  16. That is REQUIRED on the envelope I never knew that...I reviewed the 1099-MISC instructions, I don't see it in that...where on earth is this rule printed?
  17. I like using the blank paper feature to print 1099's for my clients. Is there any feature where we can create labels for the 1099's? I don't have the special envelopes that fit the uniform. Thanks Carolyn
  18. It would be interesting if a bunch of tax practitioners like ourselves got together to found our own corporation, hire good people (such as those layed off from ATX) and produce our own software.. I'd be interested in such a venture.
  19. I renewed my software 12/31 -because I wasn't sure what to switch to, and just plain ran out of time to complete proper alternative evaluations. I did ask about the satisfaction guarantee as I do have my worries...they still have it (or so they say) I'm very skeptical about this season and am thinking of having an alternative on hand to use/try. I had to call yesterday to get my install codes and was on hold for at least 1/2 hour.
  20. I disagree with a NOL carryover calculation on the ATX worksheet. My figures: AGI without NOL carryforward from 2004: 6973 2004 NOL carryforward: 22159 After carryforward agi now: 15186 Standard deduction: 5150 ATX is computing that the taxpayer uses up $6973 in Losses this year, I say it should be $1823 -I've manually completed a carryover worksheet and calculate the $1823 again. Am I filling something in wrong on ATX, or is it calculating the carryover incorrectly? Thanks Carolyn
  21. Anyone try to search the knowledge base at ATX recently? They've changed the log-in procedure. The most confusing part is your ID # is not your client number (don't ask me why?? ). I finally figured out to login on Saturday and then couldn't get back in today as I didn't write down the ID #. Grr....then there's the screen that you use if you've forgotten your login info....you have to remember what your security question is...yes remember the question....and then you have to input the answer without the question as a prompt. Very confusing. IMO this does not bode well for the future....just when I was thinking I just might renew for one more year...
  22. At this late hour I have a return to complete with about 100 stock trades. I have a .pdf file from my client with the gains all nicely summarized. Is there anyway to get this into ATX for efiling purposes? I'm not about to enter all these transactions...will have to opt for paper return if I can't get them in. Thanks Carolyn
  23. The NJ Taxation department phone lines are plugged full. Can a NJ preparer help me with a what I believe are a few simple questions? I have a NJ based partnership whose sole activities in 2006 was investment in several Kentucky based partnerships. My questions: 1. Would this be considered a tiered partnership? I noticed the Schedule A Partnership worksheet references NJk-1's of which there are none...I'm thinking not a tiered partnership. 2. Would the income (actually losses in this case) be allocated to NJ on this return? I'm not sure if this is considered NJ income or Kentucky income. There is no obligation to file a Kentucky return ( I verified with Kentucky state). 3. Am I correct that the partnership needs to file a $150.00 fee for each partner? Thanks Carolyn
