So Monday (if MN isn't up and running) let's plan to snowball Denise...she is level 3...I wonder how many levels there are?

Is there any penalty for early withdrawal from an IRA for a down payment on a home and for a reduction of the mortgage of the new home?

If yes where do I look for the explanation of it

Form 8606 exception 9 IF it is for payment on first home (see THE TAXBOOK 13-3 that is my bible)

It is not one of the 5 forms that are not available until Feb 11th. go for it!

That's 1 plus and about 80 negatives...and MN can't even e-file yet so 1 plus doesn't make a very big pile....

I realize that CPE is probably low on the list right now, but I wanted to get a few credits in before I get too busy. I do under 50 returns and need a low cost option for CPE. I am looking at CPE direct which give you unlimited for $149. wondering if anyone has any experience with them or would suggest another company.

I have learned to not plan any Minnesota e-filing before Feb 1, but even that looks a bit shaky this year. I have sent several e-mails to tech support asking them for a REAL date...all I get back are the form letters stating they will follow up in 24-48 hours, and to check the knowledgebase! On the MN DOR site ATX is listed as not even testing at this time...Could be a long year. Keep me posted on your search for a new reasonable software for next year. I do about 100 returns and can't afford the "big" packages.

I had a hint that this was coming when I attended their "training session" this fall. The instructor (?) was from Rome Georgia and rather than teaching us anything about ATX...her goal was to learn from the 20+ people who had paid good money to attend the training session.

She admitted she had never used ATX...never even filed a tax return more difficult than W-2s....and I have not heard a word from my request for a refund of at least my gas for the 180 miles I drove for the "training session". I am already looking for other software for 2008...
