  1. Being that you are from Cali, Tom, it would be you who has more access to stuff to smoke, LOL. Hillary was more centrist in comparison to Obama, hello... Also, I see quite a lot of college students working in these entry-level jobs. Most kids go on to college nowadays. The just-as-important issue here is that this may be reflecting a strategy for paying the tuition costs. The student loan market just went nuts, remember? Things are looking even bleaker for that age demographic...
  2. First thought about this: I think that is a fair conclusion to make. Second thought: I'll continue to monitor it and hope there's not more devestating adjustments to implimenting the min-wage increase. BUT, based on this, my conclusion is that if this is the blowback of the increase, it's a minutely small price to pay for raising the wage for millions of working Americans (including struggling college students trying to work jobs to earn money to pay horrendous tuition costs, whether it be on their own or helping their parents pay for it). Always hate to diss and cuss with ya, KC, cuz you know I luvs ya, but heck, we do have a long history of being on different political sides, winkwink. And in the interest of full disclosure, I'm a centrist bluedog Dem who supported Hillary because she was the more centrist candidate, and now I guess I'm a swing voter who will decide in Nov on the issues, not the personalities or movements...
  3. Definitely, Zeke. Did not mean to imply that was only a husband's trick. Thank you, Tom. I sold it though, for big bucks on ebay. Apparently there's a big market out there with the dairy farmers.... Okay. Not really. ;-)
  4. Nena, is the divorce finalized yet? Because, if it wasn't (AND she's not going to roll it into her own IRA), I'd urge my client to go to her attorneys and demand that the husband get the distribution 1099'd to him, then write her a check, so that he will be responsible for the taxes. Either that or he has to reimburse her for the regular tax she owes on the distribution, in addition to the distribution. Since you have disclosed that's she is getting the distribution to reimburse her for the checking account money, she is going to lose out by the amount equal to the tax. If it were me, I'd be calling that a "fast one" being pulled by the husband's legal team. Having been intimately involved with two friends' divorces, I would be willing to bet money that the husband's divorce attorney told him to drain that account first thing, because I've seen two divorcing men do that and one of them even bragged about the attorney telling him to do it. And the friends' attorneys sat there and sang, la di da. Just sayin....
  5. I took a brief breather from this place for a couple days and am just now catching up on the posts I missed. I see I'm the topic of yet another re-hashing of Booger following me around on here and insulting my photo (out of left field and with no provocation on my part). Silly me, I guess, for putting my own photo up here, when I see now that no one else does that. So, today I've replaced my photo with one of my dog. Please try to be adult and not make any juvenile comments, like you can't tell the difference or some such. Of all the places on the internet, I would have never thought that a professional tax board would be the place I'd be ridiculed. Learned something new this year, didn't I? I want to thank everyone who spoke out or otherwise responded negatively to Booger insulting my appearance. Although I never asked Eric to delete the comments or pm'd him at all, I do appreciate people who can see when *jokes*, if that's what ya call them, cross the line. I'm going to be real honest and say that the first post ticked me off and made me feel like I was in a Twilight Zone episode, but after reading the second post I began to feel like this dude wasn't going to leave me alone, and mixed with exhaustion and worry about ATX's pitiful acks delay, Booger's taunting got to me. Yes, he made me cry. He made me ask my husband, am I that ugly? And of course, now, my husband wants to drive to Ohio and hurt Booger. A couple of days away from this place has not cured all of my humiliation, self-doubt, and my dread about being able to come back here and be a part of this place, even though I mostly lurk (hehe, wonder why). But, I have my big girl panties on and like a couple of posters have said, I am able to defend myself. But calling someone blindingly ugly more than once on a tax board really is over the line and in my opinion indefensible, especially when it wasn't even provoked at all. Easy to give out that advice, my friends, and not really applicable. Nor is dismissing what happened by insinuating I should be happy it didn't happen on a doll collectors' board. I still have a little residual bitterness (and I don't even live in Pa.) towards you, Booger, mostly because I still cannot even fathom why you would take such cheap shots at me (and just saying they were *jokes* doesn't cut it), but I will tell you I acknowledge your apology. Accept it? Maybe in the future. Edited to add: Do you care? I doubt it.
  6. Dude, what is your problem? It's a myspace photo. Get over it. It's past time for your meds, I think.
  7. Thanks, jkl, I appreciate the info. Dang, Booger, that was rude. Funny, but rude. Not my best photo, I guess, according to you, anyway.
  8. The TRX software and the new softwares forum sounds great. I'll be around....
  9. I just mailed my 4868's, so I could pass out right now (pulled an all-niter). But I have too much java in me, LOL. I feel really blessed to just have a few in the queue. I feel for those of you who have tons of them there. Read on another thread someone is being charged for their efiled 4868's, when she thought they were supposed to be free. That's a painful ouch. I do have to say that the CCH people I've dealt with are nice and are working hard, but this season's just been an incredibly poorly-thought-out execution and in the end the failure rests with their corporate mission. I'll definitely be trying out other software or none at all (I'm supposed to be retiring). Still, it's sad for me. I did my first ATX return in 1994, the year my daughter started first grade. She's halfway thru college now....
  10. ITA, this next week will fly by at supersonic speed. I hate that. Plus, I'll probably come down with some sickness. Always happens every year.
  11. I have 2 1040's in the "validated" queue, and I just manually prepared 4868's on them. I'm going to mail them this morning with my other 4868's. Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the update of MyATX (my Hubster calls them MyA** - spelled out). ~Amy~
  12. LOL, I just posted much of the same over in the Efile forum http://www.atxcommunity.com/index.php?showtopic=2762&hl= Are you just sitting tight, waiting for the Validated status to change? I, too, would like to know if Validated means that ATX has accepted it for transmittal...
  13. I'm talking 1040's, not 4868's, which I know are just as important, but the chart says they only get tramsitted once a day, whereas 1040's are supposed to get transmitted at least 3 times per day. At first I thought that the server overloads were causing a 1040 to show a "reject" status immediately upon efile creation, but now I'm just confused? I had a 1040 do the immediate "reject" thing, but just kept synching and then recreating the efile (like a teenager calling into a radio show to get free tix, it was sad). Finally, got it to be the "validated" status. That was 2:30 a.m. Central, so dang, just missed that drain I guess. I only have two 1040s in the mix, so I've gone ahead and extended them just in case. I guess I am wondering, is this "normal", lol? Or, do I need to do some other procedure? I'd like to quit babysitting them...can I?
  14. Yes, thank you, jkl. That's 100% textbook correct. And I get it. It's just that real life isn't playing out as well. I am sitting here with the ye broker statements and the prior year returns and know that the accrued interest was not subtracted from the 1099-INT reported amounts. But, whatever. I'll ere on the side of caution then and just subtract the purchase price from the sale price to compute gain. Thanks again, very much. I appreciate the thoughtfulness. Taxpayer told me just get it filed. I appreciate the review of this, next time I'll know what questions to ask, LOL. And to deduct the accrued interest from interest income if I ever see that in the year of purchase.
