Christian
With the increased IRS scrutiny of returns using the EIC I am wondering what other info documents some of you are requiring for your files. Other than the complete 8867 and worksheets I usually require a birth certificate and the child's social security card.
grandmabee
I am asking for school records, medical record etc. something that shows where they live. Look at the list on pg 4 of the 8867
Christian
I noted those and will need to collect more info. I do very few of these and will need to increase my record requirements.
Guest Taxed
The only EIC returns I have done so far are my existing clients where I already have documentation on the qualifying child's info such as insurance cards showing the childs name and address, Day care receipts, school record of attendance etc. For new EIC clients if I get any, I have prepared a checklist from the form 8867 that I will have the taxpayer complete and give me some documentation. Because all my appoints are pre scheduled (no walk in) I can e-mail them the checklist so they come prepared. If documentation fail to show up at the time of appointment, I will NOT efile until we get that. A lot of extra work but I don't know how much the market will bear a fee increase??? Are you guys charging more if EIC is involved.
