Flood control??

Some malicious types will try to bring down a forum by flooding it with posts, often automatically generated, so that hundreds can be sent in a few minutes. Flood control just sets a maximum frequency of posts, in this case one every fifteen seconds. You might notice it if you write very short posts. I ran into it once.

"Flood control is enabled on this board, please wait 15 seconds before replying or posting a new topic"

So, I waited 15 sec. & posted this new topic. What the @#$% is flood control??

Zeke, even I have hit that limitation. It's an unfortunate reality that things must be done to prevent the slime of the earth from destroying the few good things left in this world. There are actual spam bot programs out there, where their whole purpose for being is to signup to a board as fast as possible, spam their message (usually porn related) as much as possible before getting the account shut down. Most of the time it's not even meant for the people on the board to read, just to give them more incoming links so that Google ranks their websites higher.

Julie, You gave the correct answer way to soon. Now how am I going to continue giving the silly/stupid answers every 15 seconds?

BTW, Flood Control - The FloodBreak barrier system is a simple and cost effective method to protect our assets and insure our capabilities in the delivery of police, fire and medical services during a flood. The best part of all is that the gates are automatic. That really gives us peace of mind."
