  1. Right now, I have no reason to upgrade, XP is doing everything I need it to. If anyone is looking to upgrade, I would wait until Vista Service Pack 1 is released. I've used Microsoft products long enough to know that early adopter = unpaid beta tester.

My wife's laptop has Vista on it, and we honestly haven't had that many problems with it. The battery lasts quite a bit longer with all of the frilly visual stuff turned off.

I think most of the big name computer companies still offer some computers with XP pre-loaded if you're reluctant to switch. For example, all of the computers in Dell's Small-Medium Business section give you the option to choose between XP and Vista.

  2. i was locked out this community for about a week since the server changed. I appreciate your help in getting my ISP fixed.

    -Michael

No problem at all. As far as I know, there's one other person having the same problem, but I'm hoping she'll be able to get her ISP to fix it soon.

  3. Eric,

That doesn't seem to be it. It appears that the error is specific to the Mountain time zone only.

This was my fault. The server time was off by an hour, and I didn't notice because I had my daylight savings setting turned on.

  4. but, if anybody else but me cares, the Mountain Time Zone setting is one hour off

There is also a Daylight Savings checkbox somewhere that could be throwing your time off as well.

  5. ...and a few small changes have been made.

Your personal profile picture can now be 512kb, up from 75kb or whatever it was before, so if you didn't put a profile picture up before because it didn't allow large enough files, give it another try.

Private message inbox size has been increased to 100 messages up from 50.

Each member gets 2mb of upload space for attachments, up from 1mb.

Members can now delete their own posts.

Members can now change their own topic titles and descriptions.

  6. I've voted (to leave as is). I do have 2 questions:

1)Would adding another section increase bandwidth used and/or the cost of the board?

2)Wouldn't another section create more work for the people generous enough to moderate/run/manage the community?

    Cathy

PS I don't have a big practice. I don't post often. During off-season I barely come here. But I LOVE this board. Don't know where I'd be during tax season if I didn't have it! Thanks for the work that has gone into it and thanks to everyone who posts here!

    1) From a performance / bandwidth point of view, there is really no difference. It would only take a moment to add a new forum, so really besides your second question, the only variable is what you folks would prefer.

    2) That is a possibility. With the vote as close as it is, this might be the deciding factor for now.

  7. I feel good today, I donated to this forum what I charge for a simple tax return. This forum provides me with free help when I need it and I think that now that I making some money, it was time for me to donate something.

I was waiting for the simplest return to arrive this week. I got one yesterday and it took me only about 10 minutes to complete. I charged them $$$$ and I donated it. It feels good to remember this forum when money comes in.

    Thank you! ^_^

  8. Howdy folks, sorry to be making changes during the tax season.

Within the next hour, I'm going to apply a new "skin" to the ATX Community Forums. It'll be more subdued and quite a bit less flashy, but all of the same functionality will remain in place.

Bandwidth use for the site jumped about 10x last month over previous months, and this is an attempt to put the site on a little diet.

If you absolutely hate the new look, please just give it a week to grow on you. If you still hate it, there will be an option to switch back to the previous look at the very bottom of the page on the left. I will add this option some time next week.

  9. I am aware that this probably has been addressed but I am not smart enough to find it again.

I have always been on a peer to peer network and have had no problems installing ATX. Now have a RAID server. Installed ATX 07 on it and wanted to import the returns that are already in process from the peer to peer to the server. Exported to file "returns" but unable to locate that folder in the server install. I know it is not as difficult as I am making it but hope somebody has "key word" to make my brain work.

    TIA.

Where are the exported returns located?

I would think that the easiest way do this would be to copy all of the exported returns to some folder on the server, then go physically sit at the server, run the ATX software, and then import them all.

  10. OK - I am overdue on contributing. Is there a suggested donation amount per forum contributor that if everyone donated would cover the expenses?

Well, if each of the 550+ members sent in donations, it would take less than $1 each per year to pay for the hosting and software upgrades, but I don't think that's very likely to happen.

Not sure, but I sent in 20 a few days back.

    Eli

    And it's very much appreciated!

  11. Sorry about the downtime, as anyone who visited while the site was down already knows, the community had exceeded its monthly bandwidth allotment. I've purchased more for this month, and will upgrade the hosting package for next month to triple the amount of available bandwidth to make sure that this doesn't happen again.

  12. ERC, I tried to logon this site on my computer at home, but forgot the password. This site said

that it would e-mail me the password to use, but nothing showed up in my e-mail.

My e-mail address is: [email protected]

    Thanks,

    Booger

I can't get your password, but I can reset it. I'll send you an email with more information.
