  1. At this point, I am reviewing each and every calculation and am confindent that Doug and TRX will get this thing figured out. Doug is communicating with me and I feel it is because of my patience. In an attempt to help you, make sure you have downloaded the latest update. Due to the size of the updates along with the many areas they affect, I suggest using the greed dot in the task bar repeatedly to force the program to recalculate. Doing this corrects quite a few things you may initially see missing. On a side note, Doug is no longer posting here because of the bashing he has been taking. He feels it is more important to focus on working with the developers to get the bugs fixed. Answering all of these posts and especially addressing the negative ones, seems to me would have taken the lion's share of his time. As a professional, you should check the calculations of every software vendor and not rely on the software to be 100% accurate 100% of the time.
  2. Yes, we are all having the same issue with line 5. This is a priority with TRX. Also, you can calculate the Schedule A manually and override the total at the bottom of Sch A. The overrridden number will flow to page two of the 1040. See my post above.
  3. Crank, as I said in another post, one of the TRX support agents (not first tier) called me, connected wit me on a screen share, and seen this issue happening live. He also said it was a priorirty issue but it may have helped that now they have actually seen it.
  4. Kea only one of your items can I address and that is with the Schedule A. One of tech's at TRX called me Saturday, we connected on a screen share and I showed him exactly what was happening on the Schedule A. These are known problems that he said he would immediately take it to the developers and we should be seeing a fix in one of the updates hopefully Monday or Tuesday. Thanks for letting me know that the SS# for the preparer doesn't show on the 1040. I have my PTIN in the TIN field but did not enter anything is the Preparer SS field for abivious reasons. Here is what I do know that if a value is not in the preparer SS# box then the return won't transmit because the Error check flags it and says it needs corrected. I am going to experiement with my dummy return with this a bit more.
  5. There is a standard filing letter that states what you are saying. On the forms tree it is all the way on the bottom under the custom forms tab. If you open this tab, the form will appear. You have to check the box that says print standard filing letter and if you want to add a custom form, you can create it and it will be in the drop down list about 3/4 the way down the page. This is not functional real well yet and I have sent off the return cover and privacy statement to Doug so they could see if they could create it and get it to work. If they can, it sure would be nice to have it as a default.
  6. Ah yes, the pencil then graduated to a manual typewriter and thought we were top notch when we bought a typwriter we could plug in. Then OMG!! a correct ribbon. All joking around set aside, I am an educator during the daytime which is my main job. While technology is great, our young people have relied on it so much that they aren't able to use their minds to do math problems, check spelling; etc. Their attitude is if the computer didn't do it right it is not their fault. How about a simple task like counting money forwards and backwards? While we may be old, we learned skills way beyond what is learned today. Kinda sad really and at times, I am embarrassed to say that I am part of the educational system. Okay enough of that, the little green button is a great tool. I prepared a return this afternoon that did not bring the spouse's SS# to the printed 1040 while in print preview. Clicked on the green button and there it is all was where it is supposed to be. Maybe once everything else is straightend out they can address the slowness of the recalculation. But for now, I am just happy that it is there and works.
  7. Mine too. Where are the rest of you putting your PTIN. I am putting mine in the TIN box. Should it be in the Soc# box. A stupid question I know but I never really paid that much attention to TaxWorks cause when you setup the preparer information it asked you for you PTIN and entered it on the form. My laziness I guess.
  8. Lack of detailed statements bother me too. But as you said Crank, spreadsheets will be needed. A template can be created, alot of extra work and frustration going back and forth between programs.
  9. Just FYI- I have entered depreciation information in a partnership return. This was a commercial building using 39yr SL and all calculations were perfect. This asset has been sold and I will complete the disposition and 4797 soon. Again, I think we are all a little paranoid ( me included). I'm still willing to hang in there. I have created many worksheets using Excel and used them to double check the software and so far all is good. Yes, if all business information would come forward that would be great but until it does, re-entry doesn't really bother me. I am also working on an S-Corp that their lawyer is pushing a bit because they are liquidating and are going forward with bankruptcy proceedings. Good news about this is it is a single shareholder, bad news is 325 assets and a ton of depreciation. If there is anything that makes this easy is when each asset was put in service, I created depreciation schedules, updated them when any of the assets were improved that extended their useful life so if I have to, I can enter everything again with somewhat less difficulty. Hope I don't have to.
  10. Those of you who used TaxWorks last year may have extra client folders that fit their specific return cover (slip) sheets. I have created a MSWord template for the return cover and privacy statement. These do have macros in them which are simple. All you need to do is replace my firm name with yours. I cannot attach them here or on the other board so if you are interested I will be happy to e-mail them to you. Send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I will forward them to you. I have them on my desk top to be filled in and printed first so they will be in the proper order of the return and I won't have to look or sort for them. They can be used as a mail merge document as well.
  11. Well see there, no matter what software you choose, while the grass appears to be greener, there is alot of mowing needed as well.
  12. This is an interesting topic. Jainen would probably be your best source here. Maybe KC as well. My first take is the exclusion states you must live in the residence for two of the last five years. I don't think the trust can exclude the gain but am not here. Again, it will be iteresting to see what others have to say.
  13. Make sure you are running the latest version. Problems with the CTC were addressed in update .11. You can also try to click on the green button in the task bar to force the program to recalculate. If that doesn't work, give me the details and I will get it to Doug for his team to take a look at.
  14. Thanks for the heads-up with this.
  15. I see you made the a choice and I am happy for you. However, at 3:15 this afternoon you are still beating of the software and Doug. Did you really move on? Please now, enough is enough.
  16. Thanks Gene for your post. I have said the same thing a couple of times that enough is enough. I don't know what it will take for some to realize that continued bashing is not going to make anyone in any situation act faster. I sure would hate to be one of their clients if things didn't go their way. Now, what about a professional response and handling of their current situation? Speaks a mouthful to me. As suggested MOVE ON if you want to move on. <<<<<He brings up a good point about not wanting all the proformaed returns to be in the return manager in case that client doesn't show up this year.>>>>> I agree with this totally. I don't want to see all of the returns in the return manager at one time. It is easier to proforma them in one at a time. That way, I can see who has come in and who hasn't. Easier to keep track of the status as well.
  17. Have you updated to the latest version which is 4.0.0.12? Some print problems were fixed with that version. It is not clear which version of Adobe works the best. I am runnng Acrobat Reader 11 and don't have any major problems.
  18. Kea, e-mailing your concerns to Doug is a good thing to do. I don't think Doug is shying away from the board, but has too much on his plate to deal with and responding here seems to take up more time than he is willing to give right now. I'm sure we will see him here later. I like your point on the sales tax on Sch A. Because I am in NC, my first glance was why not a default to income tax as most folks are better off using that deduction. But, in TX, FA and TN that is a horse of a different color. Maybe there is a way to change the default and if so, I am sure Doug will let you know. Nice to see others are making progress. On the proforma issue, I had to proforma some of the twice as well. Even my own return didn't show the first time. Now, before that becomes another issue for abuse, when I re-entered all of my clients into 2011 TaxWorks after a windows re-install, I had to do them twice as well. Computers are wonderful when everything works the way we want it to. They have spoiled us so much that we forget the days of paper and pencil returns. What could we possible have had to complain about?
  19. I have checked several clients and I see that the schedule A is not coming forward. With that said, this issue may be corrected in one of the coming updates. With that said, it is not too much trouble to just add the missing form. Also, Doug said if you e-mail him to be sure to let him know you are from this discussion board.
  20. Thanks for posting this. It is certainly nice to begin to her positive things and that progress is being made. I am glad that you are in contact with Doug and it just proves that he does reply to his e-mails regardless of all the bashing he is taking on this board. We all have clients beginning to come it and we all can be creative regarding how we inform them about the delays, forth coming updates and ensure them they are still getting an accurately prepared return. Heck, mine even understand that I can print their copy and mail it if it becomes necessary. Just think, if I have to do a little extra work and thinking it will at the very least sharpen the skills that I already possess.
  21. If you look at the details of the update, the proforma issue was not included. I have proformaed all of my individual clients and all of the data is there. I have not been able to proforma any of my business clients. I will be asking about this and the state issue in my e-mail to Doug. Doug has given me permission to tell you all that he is not posting on this board because he is tired of being chastised by some folks here. He will, and has, responded to e-mail. Any other issues that are not listed in the updates, need to be listed here in detail so I can e-mail them to Doug or you can e-mail them to him yourself.

  23. Okay, the TRX software is a working software. I have already completed one individual 1040 return without the State. The fact that my State forms are not ready, doesn't fall on TRX. The fact that multiple congressional changes took place January 2 that has caused IRS delays and numerous problems with each and every software company in their attempt to have their program's up and running by the time filing season begins is not the fault of TRX. There have been several posts on the general board about other software companies and their issues as well. I have seen this happen in the past and if certain forms aren't ready that the IRS has released, no one and no software company can process those forms and the IRS doesn't make exceptions to HRB and JH to take care of them first regardless of what they advertise. If you want a refund, call TRX or e-mail Doug to start the process. All the negativity on this board doesn't help anyone. Yes, Doug does answer his e-mails. He didn't even know who I was or that I existed until two weeks ago. I sent him an e-mail regarding installation problems with 2011 after a windows re-install. Doug did go out of his way to ensure that I was taken care of and even had one of his best tech's call me to get me up and running with every issue that I had at the time. Like the rest of you, I am waiting on the next update and do I expect the program to be 100% and the best thing since mom's apple pie??? No I don't. What I do expect is when a problem is discovered that it is addressed and fixed which I am sure it will be. Just stop and think about it. If you were having a computer problem in your office that caused processing returns to go haywire, would you want your clients burning you at the stake for it or would you want them to be understanding and have some patience? Better yet, what if you had a client who you made a mistake and you did everything you could to right the wrong, went on a public discussion board and burned you, turned you in to the BBB, and told everyone they meet what kind of a non-working, inexperienced, no good @$%^^ you were and that you couldn't process anything if your life depended on it and just goes on and on. We have all had these kind of clients so now, put yourself in Doug's shoes. I like quite a few of us received a different software than what I pre-paid for last year. Am I happy about that? No, Am I concerned about this season? Yes. But I believe patience is of some virtue and am keeping a positive attitude. Enough is enough already.
  24. Well, honestly, I don't have a backup plan. In my area, folks haven't gotten all of their W-2 forms and other information. Typically, my season begins around the end of January. Right now, I have S-Corps, one partnership, and one individual with multiple rental properties that have come in. I am working with one S-Corp providing them with remaining depreciation of their assets for purposes of selling and liquidating that corp. So, I do handle individuals but normally work with the higher end client. I haven't processed a RAL within the last 5 years as I don't deal with those clients and if I do have one come in, I talk them out of doing the RAL as well as any other bank products. Heck I don't even know if RALs are even available to us anymore. To answer your question, I am patiently waiting of the updates for the short term. It doesn't matter to me at this late date what software to use as there will be a learning curve and just as many frustrations if not more and I'm not willing to go there. For the long term, if the season is full of trouble with TRX then I will probably make a switch. Personally, I don't want to see that happen but if it does, then it does.
