With everything now - I have  a lot of clients that asked for their refunds to be applied forward wanting to actually get the refund instead. Their returns already being filed - is there a way to do this?

    Short answer - NO

No wedding!  Neither wants itA 1099-Misc doesn't work because she is really an employee using his equipment and getting reimbursed for expenses.  P/Ship solves all of this.

At least right now.  Too volatile for a partnership.  In my observed opinion.

"Year in Submission ID is incorrect 2019, should be 2020"

Has anybody else experience this problem when trying to submit prior years?  The fix was to delete form 8879, save and close client, re-open and re-add form and then re-efile return.  Well it hasn't work for me.

Remove 1040 efile form.  Then close client and add the  forms back, create e-file.

    Ain't it the truth!

Most Ohio returns have 4 returns.  Fed, State, School District, and if applicable, city tax.

It should roll over...just invites errors having to enter it each year, and seems silly to require ID every year.

I get new ID when the old one expires.  We should only have to reenter if expired.

IRS does not allow that information to roll over.  Entering it every year, is SOOOO difficult, and is a method of verifying identity.

Just had my first two W-4 inquiries in yesterday and, as expected, employer told them "We're  only allowed to answer two or three questions about that; your tax advisor will have to do the rest".  Talk about a cliche that's been beaten to death.

    Income opportunity????

I just fired a payroll/tax client, a carpet installer who I had to remind one too many times that he had forgotten to pay me.

Nice guy, but now that I am easing into semi - retirement I just don't need the aggravation.

My answer to that problem is simple:

Return is not given to the client OR transmitted, until I have been paid.

We might be boring, but we never stop learning 😂  If you are using ATX payroll package, you will need to print out the form 1096, along with the 1099s and Copy A at minimal to give to your client.  Also when ready to print, make sure on the pull-down menu to select 1099MISC to be able to print everything at once.

WRONG!  If you e-file the 1099 forms, there is no need to produce a 1096.

Efilie of 1099 is exactly the same process as e-filing a tax return.  However, it is not Jan. 27 yet.

I am curious why everyone is in a break-neck hurry to file 1099s.  I wait until 1 week before the due date, and file them all.  This allows time for those last minute changes, that invariably come through.

So my assistant of many many years left me last summer and she did the 1099s.

So here I am scrambling to do 1099s.

When I create the 1099 efile, I only get the 1099.  How does the 1096 get filed?

(forgive me for my lack of experience in this area............)

    Are you using ATX?

I use temporary portals like send.firefox.com and sendinc.com. I tell clients to use these same free services to send me info. Both they and I feel better knowing it's temporary and their sensitive files aren't sitting out there somewhere to be hacked.

Are there limits to the number of e-mails that can be sent?  Can there be more than one user?  Send me a PM?
