Thx Tom Sort of thought that but the ATX software threw me for a loop Any Idea why ATX software has a seperate efile option and creates a separate asc file for efile then?
-
another thought. Are you looking for the client letters by trying to add forms? if so, it will not show up. You need to add it by clicking forms from the menu then client letter.
-
I have not uninstalled the CD, but I regularly run updates and still have the client letters. Might want to try reinstalling from the cd and then run an update

have a CA client that is now making a payroll to himself from his corp. Does anyone know how to file the CA W-2's ATX will create the CA.asc file for e-file, just like for the Federal that needs to be efiled with Social Security, but I don't know what if anything I need to do with this. And if I can't file electronically, how do you file the W-2's (and what forms) with CA? Also, just want to double check. I believe the other returns CA requires are as follows: DE6 DE7 DE88 ( for deposits)

Good Answer Jainen! We need to understand the differences in our governmental bodies here. There is overhead at the: Local level County Level State Level Federal Level All Judicial Levels etc etc etc!

You might recall a recent solution to this problem suggested by a State Senator in LA. He wanted to pay all the poor to get sterilized! Now there is a novel solution to the problem. Sounds like something Judge Roy Bean would have done.

Okidata 5150C (color) with duplexer. Print is great and consumables are low, especially since it is so easy to refill, by simply pouring in bulk toner like the old copiers. Full color copies come out looking like magazine print even when on plain paper. was $600 in its day.

no one has tried this?

I am setting up a terminal server to host my client QuickBooks files and to allow staff that work from another location the ability to work on the same files. Have been able to login into the QB file when the the Remote Desktop User is setup as an Administrator, but not when I setup a limited account. Have found numerous things about setting permissions on the web as follows; "You can make QuickBooks available in a TS environment, if you give the users some extra privileges. Here are the steps: 1. Perform a normal installation of QuickBooks (in install mode!) 2. Reboot 3. Enter install mode again (change user /install), start QuickBooks and activate it by entering the registration code (this is a crucial step, and must be performed immediately following the reboot 4. Go back to execute mode (change user /execute) 5. Copy the %system root%\Intuit folder into each users %user profile%\Windows folder 6. Create a QuickBooks Users group 7. Add your users to this group 8. Give the group Full Control to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Intuit\QuickBooksRegistration 9. Give the group Full Control to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.QPG 10. Give the group Full Control to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\obja.obja 11. give the group Full Control to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\QuickBooks.application 12. Give the group Modify rights to the Program Files\Intuit\QuickBooks Pro folder Also make sure that clients use short names for printers if they need to print to a redirected local printer. QuickBooks cannot handle long printer names. " Problem is that I am unable to perform some of of the steps above as folders and registry keys suggested don't even exist on my machine Anyone have any suggestions? I don't think allowing everyone Admin status works very well

Terry: And if your client has actually not filed the 2553 but has not yet filed any corporate tax returns you can still fix his S-corp election. Make sure before any returns are filed that he is an S-Corp. If not IRS has simplified the methods of correcting failed S-Corp elections (see form and instructions) once again.

New Problem. Now the link to let us change our password is GONE! I emailed wrote ATX support the following: "Previously your website would not let me update / change my login password when I go to "Manage My Account / Contact Info/ Modify Password". Now the option to modify password has been completely removed. I am wondering how am I supposed to change my password, as required by your server, so I am able to continue to login into the website? Please help" Maybe they need an info page to let us know what they are doing and why.

Faster than a speeding bullet, and I become more powerful than a locomotive and am able to leap tall buildings in a single bound, when using the ultra secret password!

Hmmm think you misunderstood both comments. First, there were several Appeals officers at the seminar and they ALL agreed that IRS is accepting the position that S-Corp shareholders can reduce their wages and shift money to draws! Note that technically you should have a defensible position for the lower salary. Further as an attorney I have fought this battle and won every time, so long as the client had a salary that made some sense. Now it is for you to use your judgement as to what makes sense! Also, exposure for audit and adjustment on this is is drastically reduce if there is some reasonable level of salary. This shifts the burden of proof to IRS to prove that the salary is too low. Burden of Proof is a tough thing. If O.J. Simpson had the burden to prove he was innocent of murder, he would have gone to jail for the murders. As for the draw as an expense issue, don't most of clients misunderstand income and expense vs balance sheet items. This is a common thing that we have to correct in our clients QuickBooks files, especially for new small business owners. They have a hard time understanding the concept of a "Draw".
-
Guess none of you are really true to the "Wonderful" OFFICIAL ATX BOARD, or you would have known about the ultra secret password needed to get in. and I am keeping it a secret!
-
He can get away with reducing his salary by taking a portion of it as draws, but not eliminate it. I went to a seminar taught by IRS Appeals Officers that informed the class that IRS accepts this position and often will accept as much as 50% draw vs salary or possibly more from S-Corp shareholders. In fact to the surprise of all, they recommended it! Might be enough if you give him a bonus for the end of the year and and treat that as payroll, withholding accordingly. And this would reduce exposure. Next year you can adjust between the 2 in a more appropriate fashion.

Just got through speaking with ATX support and was informed that this looks like a bug in their Password system, which support was able to duplicate. They upper techs are being notified so that they can correct. Maybe we should work for their support!

Been on with ATX for near an hour trying to fix my password problem. Apparently they have "No Idea" why this is happening either. INTERESTING NOTE Though I was informed by support that the whole password complication is due to and IRS contract that CCH has. Apparently IRS has required CCH to step-up their password security. I let support know that this has been an issue with many of us and that it would have go a long way to reducing or deflecting our anger and concerns, if they would just disseminate information like this. My guess is that they will still keep stuff like this to themselves anyway.

Not locked out here. The system just won't let me do my now "Regularly Scheduled Monthly Password Change". Guess I still have almost 2 months before it is an issue, but I don't want to mess with this during Tax Season!
-
hmm. You don't use ATX anymore and yet they are FedEx'ing the disk to you? Maybe that's the trick!

Runing ATX database Via Internet from Multiple Offices
joelgilb replied to joelgilb's topic in General Chat
Ok I understand you are not sure how it works, but I sort of do. My question to you though is this: Does it allow the outside office personnel access the same database? Or does it treat them as a part of the internal network. For example: When using with QuickBooks (qb), the outside personnel are able to access the file, even if they do not have a multi-user version of qb. This will lock the file without a multi-user license (or should I say multiple licenses) but it does people offsite to access the file. So, is your ATX using the additional network licenses?
