About 18 months ago I reported a preparer in this area who was fudging Sch A & 2106 amounts. I just got word from several people that a large amount of her clients from 2005 have been receiving letters from the IRS requesting proof for the deductions on those forms. I've got calls from 3 requesting assistance with the letters. I've also driven by that office and it appears it has shut down completely, even the sign out front has been removed. 2 more big ones that I hear lots of stories about. Maybe soon...

Why wasn't it disclosed? Eli

Nothing at all! I did try to go in & enroll, but it kept giving me an error and wouldn't let me do anything. Eli

Makes two of us!! I switched to SBBT also. I haven't read anything like that in the disclosures! Eli

Thanks for the additional input. I will show the prospective client these responses. She can decide where she gets her return done this coming year :-) Eli

Sounds like our 'poor' county commissioners. Just imagine they just got a 12,000 pay raise. Can you imagine the huge tax increase?? Eli

New client brought in his 2005 return done by another preparer. Client filed as MFJ claiming two children. Client earned $34122. He had Sch A deductions of 23751. Previous preparer gave him CTC of $76, EIC of $1158 & Add'l CTC of $1924.00 + 5375 of Withholding for a total overpaymentof $8457. Inputting the return in ATX I came up with CTC of $0, EIC of $661 & Add'l CTC of $2000. + 5375 of Withholding for a total overpayment of:$8036. I couldn't find where the difference was. Then looking at it more closely I noticed that they were only getting credit for 3 exemptions ($9600) on the previous preparer's return. They have 4 people listed on the return, but it was only showing 3 exemptions. Which software do they use? TAXWISE...I wonder if this was just a glitch or maybe a more common error?? Eli P.S. Still couldn't figure how they came up with the EIC of $1158

This is all on 2106. There was a total of 13000+ of deductions on 40000+ income. They are not allowed to work any kind of 2nd jobs. This particular preparer (several offices) services hundreds of LE personnel. Now I know why!! Eli

An acquaintance brought me her last year's tax return. She asked if I could give her a rough estimate of this years return based on her latest pay stub. I agreed thinking it would be a good way to check out the new software. Along with the return she had a list of items the tax preparer included or includes for law enforcement personnel. Thermal underwear: $650.00; sunglasses:$250.00; shoe shine supplies: $85.00; camera $450.00; police scanner: $240.00; haircuts: 2 per month total of $300.00; misc equipment: $1125.00; boots: $298.00; cold weather gear: $275.00; Cell phone: $1,280.00; Computer: $1,500.00; internet: $156.00; vehicle mileage deduction: $2159.00 I know for certain several of these items are not required by the agency as they provide alot of the equipment such as: cell phone, camera, uniforms, flashlights, cuffs, weapons, & a take home vehicle. What do you think about some of these deductions? Eli

Brett Favre, after living a full life, died. When he got to heaven, God was showing him around. They came to a modest little house with a faded Packer's flag in the window. "This house is yours for eternity, Brett," said God. "This is very special; not everyone gets a house up here." Brett felt special, indeed, and walked up to his house. On his way up the porch, he noticed another house just around the corner. It was a 3-story mansion with a Silver and Blue sidewalk, a 50-foot flagpole with an enormous Blue Star flag, and in every window, a "How 'Bout Them Cowboys" sign. Brett looked at God and said, "God, I don't mean to be ungrateful, but I have a question: I was an all-pro QB, I won the Super Bowl, and I even went to the hall of fame." God asked, "So what do you want to know, Brett?" "Well, why does Tony Romo get a bigger, better house than me?" God chuckled and said, "Brett, that's not Tony's house... it's mine." Joshua 24:15 "…..But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD."

I doubt that they would listen, otherwise we still might have the original forum. Eli

I have to agree with Jainen. Your business will increase significantly this season. Eli

I didn't use it last year & will not use it this year, but I do remember see complaints about it on the forum earlier in the year. Not sure if the kinks were worked out. Eli

Same here, Deb. Eli

Thanks, Gene. I thought the same thing about it being more of a concern to IRS then to the software provider. I guess I'll just call and see whats up. Eli

Has anyone received a call from ATX requesting a copy of an EFIN letter? I received a voicemail yesterday from a young lady who state she worked for ATX and that ATX was going require a copy of the EFIN letter in order to be able to efile thru them. I don't recall ever having been asked to send one in before. Any ideas? Eli
