I went to the Star Hotel while in Elko, Nevada. It was great food (and lots of it). The whole dispatch group I was working with went together. I had the Mountain Trout. It all started with the drinks, then they brought fresh bread, then soup, salad, beans, french friens, green beans & finally the main dish. The trout was great. I definitely would go back to eat there if I ever make it back to Elko again. I also won a $250 jackpot on a slot machine in one of the casinos The Hospitality of the people there, the beautiful Ruby Mountains, the jackpot & the 107 hours of overtime made it a great two weeks!! 2. When looking at the 'members active in the last 15 mins', why does 'Google' show up? Eli
  3. Jainen, Thanks so much for that info. I just called him and advised him of your response. I emailed him the response & the website for JH. He's going back tomorrow!! Thanks again! Eli
  4. A gentleman had his 2005 return prepared at Jackson Hewitt. They left off the 10% penalty for early withdrawl of retirement plan. The retirement withdrwal was included. I advised him to call JH and see if they would pay for the interest (about $113.00)portion of the bill. They asked him to take the paperwork so they could look at it. They told him the software should have caught it, but that there had been a change in the coding for retirement plans and that the software didn't pick up on it. They also told him they wouldn't pay for the interest unless he had purchased the "gold plan" or something like that. Do you think this is something they should pay for anyways? Should I recommend that he visit the BBB or maybe try visiting the office again?? Thanks! Eli
  5. Is she around 3-4 years old?? I have a cute 4 year old that might be interested Eli

I believe it is Sue. I have a phone number for her & will try to call her tomorrow (Monday). I am now in Elko, Nevada on a fire assignment. The scenery is beautiful out here. It had been a long time since I'd seen mountains!! Eli
  7. Our practices are very similar, no corps or partnerships. i have only one 990EZ, they had none. Neither of us is an EA or CPA. Even the prices are pretty close. They are actually a little higher than mine. The only problem I see so far is the price they want up fron. I don't think I can or want to pay that much up front. It would have to be on a plan such as the one given by Mr. Malody. Thanks again!! Eli
  8. Thanks to all of you who answered. This is a great opportunity, but also one that I will definitely not rush into. On Monday I will be meeting with one person who has wanted for the past couple of years to partner up. I'm excited about even having this opportunity. I will definitely keep you posted and Tom, if you don't mind, I will probably get an email & phone call out to you sometime next week. I'm not sure if John Spada comes on here, but would also love to hear from him if he's around!! Thanks again! Eli
  9. Tax preparer called me yesterday. He wants to sell the family tax practice. It actually belongs to the Mom. We've helped each other out in the past. They want to sell the client list along with the computers and furnishings in the office. The office is a rental. They have approximtely 1500 clients according to the son. He says they want $225,000, but is open for negotiation. I think I remember on the old forum that someone said it should be by the amount of retained clients. I don't want to purchase 1500 and only 1000 or less decide to stay on. The Mom would also stay on for two seasons to help in the transition. What do all of you think of this offer?? Thanks!! Eli P.S. I would not be able to take this on on my own, I would definitely need to find a partner to come on board with me.
  10. That almost sounds like someone from the company :-) Eli
  11. The more knowledgeable people the better. This is a great way for those of us less experienced, can learn by reading the posts & answers here. Eli
  12. I agree that the borders need to be secured, but a fence is not going to do the trick. Eventually they will come over, under, around or through it. Until Mexico fixes their problems and/or the US quits giving out welfare & free medical assistance to illegal aliens they will just keep finding ways to come across. In this area we have a very dangerous river that claims many lives on a yearly basis. Even then they keep coming. Why should we think a fence is going to be any different?? Eli
  13. Bob, We received probably just over an inch of rain these past two weeks. Some surrounding areas received over 3 inches, but now it's getting dry again. Daytime time temps have fallen under 100 (just barely) for now. The weather people are saying we'll get more rain, but I don't believe them very much :-) How are things in your area??

    Payment plan

He actually owes $660+, but I don't think he could afford maybe more then $25-30 a month. Eli
  15. He doesn't have a bank account, at least that's what he said. Eli
  16. Thanks to all 3 of you for your responses. I will assist him......to set up a payment plan :-). Eli
  17. This gentleman had his 2006 taxes prepared elsewhere. He received letter from IRS disallowing EIC. Kids are not his and are not related to him. The EIC had previously been frozen so he didn't get any of the money from that. He did file as HOH originally and there was about $4300 in W2 income. There was also $6000 in S/E income. He states that he told the preparer that he made about 1200-1500 in S/E income mowing lawns. He states the preparer put in the 6000 figure instead which according to him, he was not aware of until I pointed it out to him. My question is: If we amend the return showing the 1200-1500 instead of the 6000 figure what would be needed to prove this amount is the correct amount? Thanks! Eli
  18. I heard the same thing. The only thing I could think of was that maybe it was a multiple year contract with ATX and they might just be finishing it up. Eli PS Have you researched any of the other banks?
  19. Tom, the following is an email I sent to William on June 19th about the banks & his reply. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi William!! I hope you're doing fine out in Maine. If you get tired of a nice summer day, you're welcome to come and enjoy some of our 100+ degree summer out here :-) I'm curious to know what bank ATX will be partnering up with this coming season. I haven't renewed yet, but more than likely will. I'm sure it won't be before the end of June to obtain the discount. I'm still trying out other softwares. I still think ATX is probably the better one, but want to know what banks will be available. Thanks!! Eli --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Eli! HSBC, River City, Republic, Santa Barbara and one more that isn't yet confirmed. Great to hear from you and I hope you are well. William Tasker CS Manager, ATX CCH, a Wolters Kluwer business 63 Sweden St, P.O. Box 1040 Caribou, ME 04736 (O) 207-498-4289 ext.40005
  20. Happy Birthday, Marilyn!! Eli
  21. BJM, More then likely they are set up as a non-profit. I have never dealt with this type of organization before. I think the best thing would be to look at the letters received to see what the IRS wants/needs from the organization. They can also sign a power of attorney for you and you can discuss it directly with IRS. It could be something fairly easy or might not be. I just helped a crime stoppers organization. They were getting letters requesting a form 8734. They were worried about it, but no one knew how to handle it. They had everything they needed to complete it :-). Hopefully this might be the case with the VFW. Good luck!! Eli
  22. Is this in the return manager in the tax software? If it is, all you have to do is erase the name on itnow and type in whatever you want to name it. Eli
  23. That's a pretty good site, Taxbilly. We opened my son's account last year. We opened his through Vanguard (Iowa 529). So far it's been a great move. The share prices have gone up from $15.75 when we first opened it to $19.32 as of the 1st of June. I'm not sure the market will keep going like that, but we can always change the investment. Eli

  25. Eli

    1099B ?

OK, this did not come out the way I typed it out. Anyways, I think I got it figured out to a $40.00 loss. Thanks! Eli
