  1. Got in a W-2 from client that I'm not sure what to do with. His wages are in all the right boxes with Fed, State, SS and Med withholding. No problem. BUT in box 12 there is an entry coded "CC" for the total amount of his earned wages. I've never heard of a code CC, so I call the business and am told "My daughter is a CPA and has been doing the books for 40 years and she don't make mistakes!" End of conversation, he hung up. How do I report this W-2 if I can't get a corrected one?

    SCH C

I wish I remembered the name of the girl who helped me, but I don't. And all I can remember of what she did thru screenshare was going into my C drive to TRX 2010, client files, that particular client, saw the 2 forms and somehow deleted them. She made it look easy, although it took a while to figure out where to go and what to do. Hope this helps.
  3. I'm in Missouri, which is a piggyback state, and I file them both at the same time. If the Fed rejects, the state automatically rejects. Any fix I do to the Fed carries to state. This way, I don't have to remember to file the state separately, if things turn to a madhouse around here.

    SCH C

Thanks for everyones help. I ended up calling CS, and they had to go in and delete the Sch C from in the client files. I had a ghost Sch!

    SCH C

It calculates correctly on the C EZ. It's when it's carried to the 1040 that it doubles.

    SCH C

No, this was 3 figures put in the C input screen - Sales, Supplies and Misc Expense. It is doubling the Profit or Loss, and adding Misc Ex to the Profit or Loss again.

    SCH C

Has anyone had a problem with Sch C doubling the amount on the 1040? It shows a small profit ($253) on the C. When I "peek" at the 1040, Sch C amount is $528, which is the profit doubled, PLUS a small amount in Misc expenses doubled AGAIN! Very simple - income less Supplies and Misc. When I added a bit of Mileage, it got even worse. Anyone know what I might be doing wrong? But, somehow, I don't think it's me. (Shows up as C EZ in Peek)
  8. I use their log books to determine the days out, which include lay-overs out of town. Using the books, you can tell when they left and when they got back. Usually they day they leave and the day they get back are counted as part days, not full. If the truck breaks down while they're out on a run, even if it takes 3 days to fix, those are still considered days out. It's the days away from home ON BUSINESS that matter.
  9. How long should it take to get a transcript from CA for 2005? I mailed in the POA (FED with CA listed) and the request almost 3 weeks ago, and have not heard a thing. Wouldn't I have heard from them by now if there was something they didn't like about the POA or request? How much longer should I wait to retry? Thanks.

    ATX renewal

I just talked with them, too. I was offered the same deal, but had to say "No." I really prefer ATX over any other program I've used, but I don't do but 1 or 2 business returns. My preference is the 1040 package, but with efile fees at $6 fed/state, it's just too expensive. I do lower-end average Joes that don't have a lot of confidence in keeping up with the changes, so try to keep my fees low. I'm going to have to go with TRX and change my attitude and learn a new program, I guess. I've done 2 returns on TRX's program, and it took a long time, but I've got all summer to play with it. I just hope they don't keep switching programs every year or two.
  11. So, is it true if my dad claims me and i don't get money back, I shouldn't file my taxes? Now that's a tough one. Wendell down at the barbershop (I pass by there every day on my constitutional to the Kwikmart to get my nougat bar) said why is your dad claiming you? People don't own other people any more (although sometimes his boss thinks he does) And why shouldn't you get any money back? We're a new nation, and Mr O said that there's plenty of money to go around. Wendell said you should claim yourself (be proud!) and you tell Mr O how much money you need for gas, car insurance, phone bill and everything else, and put that much in the refund box. That's what Wendell down at the barbershop said, so, you go, girl!
  12. My first thought on reading that was "Boy, I bet there will be a lot of house fires in the future" But then. the INSURANCE companies will probably insert a clause saying they won't pay out for fires unless the house has a proper rating.

    NOL help

Got it figured out Thank you. I'd like to take class on these. There are some things that seem backwards to me, but then, I'm tired and not thinking too straight.

    NOL help

This is my first time with a really big NOL, and want to make sure I'm reading everything right. The NOL is from 2008, with no election of any kind made, so I'm first carrying it back to 2006. It's a big enough NOL so that after applying it, their AGI is 0. They itemized deductions that year, and this is the part I'm unsure of. They have medical deductions and misc subject to 2%. If I'm understanding it right, since their AGI is now 0, all of their medical and misc are now included in the aftercarryback line 12 deductions. Right? I've got the rest of it, including refiguring any credits based on 0 AGI. It's not as scary as I thought it was going to be.
  15. Does anyone know if West Plains payroll information ( I beleive it's a SAge product) can be imported into ATX payroll? Where can I find a list of payroll products that can be imported into ATX?
  16. Client just faxed over more paperwork on the sale, and the father put everything into a trust and his will did not revoke the trust. So... no FTHB for them. I might have tried it f it were an estate, not family trust. Thank you for your thoughts on this, though.
  17. But I did come across the following, and had the question of estate as opposed to trust. "Section 267 does not bar a deduction of loss on a sale of property other than stock by an estate to the estate's executor, who was a child of the decedent. The sale was not betwwen related parties within the meaning of Sec 267(B ), but between an estate and an individual." (Stanley & Kilcullen's Federal Income Tax Law, 1997) If she could receive it from the estate, and have the loss, is a decedent's estate different from a trust?
  18. I've been reading all morning and haven't the answer to this one. I know you can't claim the FTHB if the home is bought from a close relative, but what about from the estate of the deceased parent? The house was to be sold to pay off bills, and (if) any remaineder to be split among siblings. I'm thinking no, but client declined anything from the estate for the right to buy the house for full value.
  19. The French President is sitting in his office when his telephone rings. 'Hallo, Mr. Sarkozy!' a heavily accented voice said. 'This is Paddy down at the Harp Pub in County Clare , Ireland .. I am ringing to inform you that we are officially declaring war on you. We voted to reject the Lisbon treaty.' 'Well, Paddy,' Sarkozy replied, 'This is indeed important news. How big is your army?' 'Right now,' says Paddy, after a moment's calculation, 'there is myself, me Cousin Sean, me next door neighbour Seamus, and the entire darts team from the pub. That makes eleven.' Sarkozy paused. 'I must tell you, paddy, that I have 100,000 men in my army waiting to move on my command.' 'Begoora!' says Paddy. 'I'll have to ring you back.' Sure enough, the next day, Paddy calls again. 'Mr. Sarkozy, the war is still on. We have managed to get us some infantry equipment!' 'And what equipment would that be paddy?' Sarkozy asks. 'Well, we have two combines, a bulldozer, and Murphy's farm tractor..' Sarkozy sighs amused. 'I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 6,000 tanks and 5,000 armoured personnel carriers. Also, I have increased my army to 150,000 since we last spoke.' 'Saints preserve us!' says Paddy. I'll have to get back to you.' Sure enough, Paddy rings again the next day. 'Mr. Sarkozy, the war is still on! We have managed to get ourselves airborne! We have modified Jackie McLaughlin's ultra-light with a couple of shotguns in the cockpit, and four boys from the Shamrock Bar have joined us as well!' Sarkozy was silent for a minute and then cleared his throat. 'I must tell you, Paddy, that I have 100 bombers and 200 fighter planes. My military bases are surrounded by laser-guided, surface-to-air missile sites.. And since we last spoke, I have increased my army to 200,000.' 'Jesus, Mary, and Joseph!' says paddy, 'I will have to ring you back.' Sure enough, Paddy calls again the next day.. 'Top o' the mornin', Mr. Sarkozy. I am sorry to inform you that we have had to call off the war.' 'Really? I am sorry to hear that,' says Sarkozy. 'Why the sudden change of heart?' 'Well,' says Paddy, 'we had a long chat over a few pints of Guinness and packets of crisps, and we decided there is no fookin' way we can feed 200,000 prisoners.'
  20. You can use the $52 for every FULL day he was out. For days he left and came back, depending on what times those were, you use either 3/4 or 1/2 day. Also, if he had layover out of town, those are counted as full days. I like to have the log books, 'cause then I can tell for sure where they were then. SOME companies will have info on their breakdown sheets that you can get this from.
  21. Thank you, Don! I have the book, but there was nothing in it about that. That F1 help would have come in handy last year. Live and learn!
  22. I'm using a different computer than last year, and need to do a 2008 return. I used Taxwise last year, and got it loaded, but am having a problem. I need to put 5 rentals on an E, but it won't let me make a second copy (shift F10)of it. I remember how much I disliked the program last year, and why I went back to ATX this year. Anybody knowing Taxwise have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong? If not, how about this one - My father used ATX in 2008, and passed away last year. I found his copy of it, but no unlock code anywhere,or his customer number. (My brothers made a total mess of his paperwork before I got there) Does any one have an install code I could use to put 2008 ATX on with? It's the archive edition I found) Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give me.
  23. If someone sold their plasma for 10 months out of a year, and did it because they needed the money, would you consider this a Sch C, or "other income"? Granted, it's not much money, but $80 a month could go a long ways toward feeding a person (here, anyhow), and it meet the "regular and continuous activity done with a profit motive". What about partcipating in clinical studies where one is paid to let them 'experiment' on you? I would want to say other income, but what about cases where it is the person's only income? You can make good money on the clinical studies, and can pick which ones you want to participate in. This economy has a people doing a lot of things to get by. At least they are being honest and telling me about this income.
  24. Thank you, all! I'm a bit under the weather today, but the kids are hekping me make tamales today, for our New Years Eve celebration.
  25. FMV for rent wouldn't have to be even close to $1400/mo. On Craigslist you can find rooms to share, utilities covered, use of house for around $400/mo. Double that for 2 bedrooms (2 boys share, or if 1 of each, girl shares with Mom) That leaves her $9000 for the rest of the year. A lot of people shop for clothes at thrift shops. I think it could hasve easily been shown that a single mom with 2 kids could make it on $18000. Not everybody has to have the newest and most expensive. And not everybody has health insurance. No car, no insurance. NO ride? Carpooling.
