  1. Does anyone have the phone number that practions use? I can't find it anywhere, and have a client that needs to find out if a refund check from a couple of years ago was cashed.
  2. I injured my arm and am taking some pain pills that just won't let me think, and I don't think I've ever had this situation before. The son of an old friend just called to find out how to get his refund from 2 years ago. He filed and all, but was sent to jail before the check came. and he thinks it was probably returned. What do we do to help him get it? I didn't do his return that year. Thanks
  3. I'm in MO and and qualfied health care premiuns can be duducted from federal AGI this year. Maybe your state, too?
  4. I'm one of those that usually waits until the last minute to renew with anyone, but this year I renewed already with TRX and the ATX package.. The girl I talked to today said they got ATX included because SO many people didn't like Taxwise and let TRX know. I've always had good support with TRX, and once the got their phone problem fixed, it's very easy to get thru. CCH should know a good thing when they see it, let's hope.
  5. I, too, left ATX for the same reasons as Kea and went to TRX. Intellitax07 wasn't too bad, and after Taxwise this year, I thought I was going to have to suck it up and just go back to ATX, even with the price, but it looks like I can stay stay with TRX and get the good stuff!
  6. Thanks. That's what I thought, but Taxwise wants to put it as private, and I doubted myself at this late in the game!
  7. OK, probably dumb question, but I'm so confused right now. Client is retired military and gets pension from Defense Finance out of London, KY. Is this a public (government) pension, or private pension? I would think it was public, but my software is saying private. Admittedly, I don't know how these are funded, not having been in the military, but any help would be appreciated. It makes a big difference in MO.
  8. Hey, I do that and sometimes get some very good answers! "Course, sometimes they're just nonsense.
  9. I thought I read somewhere that there is an exception to the penalty on early IRA distributions if if a homeowner was facing foreclosure. I can't find anything on it, so did I really read that? Or was it only proposed? Or was I dreaming? Any help appreciated!
  10. Actually, I emailed support last night, and when I checked for Acks today, I got a MO module update that fixed the problem. I can't say for sure that it was email, but no one else seemed to have this problem. It did get fixed quick, tho. Pretty good!
  11. I can't get a form to delete so I can create an e-file. It's the MO PTC. ( I can never remember if it's the PTC or PTS I want, and I opened the wrong one first!) Anyhow, I can't create the efile because the PTC is used by itself, not with the MO 1040, but IT WON'T GO AWAY!!! What do I do?
  12. I don't think I would consider an addition "rebuilding". Maybe if it was completly gutted and kitchen/bathroom moved to a different area to fit new bedrooms, a total new layout of rooms. But not just the addition of a bedroom or two. I think the 'rebuild' is more in the case of some kind of disaster, and roof, siding, etc need to be rebuilt.
  13. I really don't like it much. Right now I'm trying to firure out how to print to pdf. I don't like not be able to see the finished forms before printing. Taxwise has so many 'extra' lines, like the real estate tax and mortgage interest lines on Sch A, that unless I watch VERY carefully where I put amounts, I can get it wrong, and that slows me down. To me, it's kind of a dumbing down . Yeah, if you don't know where the information goes, it helps. But we're all supposed to know where it goes. Hard to find the reports I want, efile is weird, but the program is fast. Details print out that I don't want and I haven't been able to find out how to stop them. I wasn't all that impressed with Intellitax last year, but I liked it better than I do Taxwise.
  14. It's in the stimulus bill that just passed in the House to make it a true credit. Still has to pass the Senate. It may not be such a bad thing for some people. It is interest-free, and some people spend a lot more than $500 on coffee and sodas in a year. If they do have to pay it back, maybe they'll be a bit healthier!
  15. Thanks, Gene, it worked! (I wrote the # on my disk, if I ever have to change computers again.) I wish I could afford ATX this year. I, too, do not like Taxwise. I am very dissapointed in TRX's no refund policy, even before tax season really starts. I will be returning to ATX next year, used it for 9 years with no problems.
  16. This is a long-shot, but I need some HELP! I needed to put last years Intellitax on a new computer, but I can't find the paperwork that came with it. I can't finish installing it without a LOCATION ID. TRX support was no help. Does anyone have a location ID from last year that I might be able to try to use? I can't restore last years returns to do a conversion to Taxwise without having Intellitax installed. That means NO rollover, and having to enter every return as new this year. PLEASE!! SOMEBODY!! I don't wanna have to do that! PS - Does Taxwise have a forum? I do like this group best, and will probably return to ATX next year.
  17. I got the new computer in June and installed the program. I could not open it to do anything. I got a message saying (something like) If you have installed TRX on another computer, please contact customer support to continue. I didn't even bring up the point that the 2008 program won't even be close to ready before late December, so what's the point of a May-May license?
  18. I just wanted to let people know the only problem I've had with TRX. My computer died last month and I had to get a new one. I installed TRX on it and went to work on an extension. I had to call customer support to activate it on the new machine. They told me the license was only good from May 2007 to May 2008, and in order to reactivate I would have to purchase next years program. I ended up having a bit of a discussion with a supervisor, telling her if I didn't have to get a new computer, I would still be able to use it on my old machine, and I'm one who doesn't typically decide what program I'm going to use until Nov./Dec. I did finally manage to convince her to activate it, but this is a heads up on, like I said, the only real problem I've had with TRX.
  19. On the upper case/lower case subject, I just want to say I use all upper case because I can see where I've input text, and it's easier to spot typos. That, and being a one-handed typist I don't have to keep looking for the shift key.

    TRX

To change the default, right click, and click zoom. This tip was passed on to me by someone else, a nice guy called "Chief"
  21. Any one know how to do extensions with TRX? I've got 2, and it wants me to show AGI on 1040 and state (MO) just won't go. First year I've used it, and only minor problems with checkboxes before this. I'll probably use it again next year, unless Mel comes up with something for us.
  22. I, too, switched to TRX Pro after using ATX for 9 years. I've been very pleased with it, and do recommend it for smaller offices. I have about 150 clients.
  23. Frazier. It does everything, and can link to Quickbooks, if you want.
  24. I agree with KC. That's the way I've always done them.
  25. If SRS is welfare payments, no they don't figure in the EIC. If she were trying to claim the child as a dependent, then, of course, you'd use the payments to see who provided more support. But, for EIC, you don't have to claim the child as a dependent. Just make sure she does qualify. Use the checklists.
