Is anyone else having problems when trying to transmit?
It is past the time for the Sunday maintenance check.

Stick around...it's only going to get worse! This
rationing is almost a good thing compared to how bad
it could be.

I got new business cards as I changed my office hours...
In addition to the business card stating "Your taxes done
at my convenience" I have added "office hours begin at noon".
My husband and I aged a lot this past year and I decided this
was better than retirement. I also let the clients know upfront
that we are taking a tour to Washington DC in March to see the
cherry blossoms. After 30 plus years doing taxes my clients are
just happy that I am still here. No, I don't take new clients either.
Guess I want to hang around long enough to pass the test to be a
REAL registered tax preparer!

I see that the bill passed so now employees get a one year 2%
tax break on Social Security withholding...Do self-employed
persons also get an additional break? I have seen nothing on
this subject yet.

Thanks for the good wishes. and thanks for helping get me thru another tax season.
We may have never met but you all are my "best friends forever"

Any one get any acks lately?

Be sure you go into the detail page and fill in all that information.
Just a suggestion.

I do several day care providers and my thinking is that they go
get grocies for the business and if they pick up something for the
family that is immaterial. Anyone in day care knows how time-consuming
all aspects of the business are. Give her the miles.

I found returns with energy credit were slower than refund cycle stated.

For MN part-year you will need M1NR and probably M1M as MN has many add-backs. Mn did not accept any
of the newer Fed changes...(unemployment, real estate tax added to standard deduction, tuition or
educational expenses. Open Mn e-file form to e-file. MN requires a copy of the federal be attached
(which it should do automatically). Only credits MN has that you may not know about are marriage credit
or the new lower income jmotor fuels tax credit (line 30 of M 1).

Customer Care limited hours Saturday Feb 13
2/12/2010
Friday night, we closed early due to the winter storm warning in our area. We re-opened at 10am Saturday, but a large percentage of the staff cannot get to work. You may experience delays when calling Customer Care Saturday. We are scheduled to close at regular time of 6pm, but that may change as the temperature drops and the roads re-freeze. Note that the Electronic Filing Center is an automated system and does not require any human interaction.
This is latest info from ATX headquarters...Remember when Caribou Maine would still be working at -30 degrees.......
-
I also had an energy credit direct deposit return that did not get deposited today. IRS "Where's my refund" states next friday as the deposit date now...

Depends on the age of the taxpayer...is he over 59 1/2?
-
Can we start a campaign to get the TOTAL back on the forms statement??? I really miss it.
-
Have you tried the 'synchronize with EFC'? I usually do that before trying to send my first e-file, which was successfully sent this morning.
Lynn Jacobs, EA, NP
Kenner, LA
I have to report this. After waiting on hold for the usual 45 minutes I got great help (cookies were the problem) and I have to say I was impressed.
-
I never send e-files before February. I am trying to send my first e-file this morning and I cannot get connected. Is it just me or is it part of the back-up ATX is experiencing? If it is just my problem I need to get in line with the support team.
-
Yeah, they really need to have a more robust efile system. There's really no reason to reject it in the first place. If they got the $250 just reduce the refund by $250. That's the final outcome anyway.
BUT they need to have earned income to even need the sch M. If no earned income, don't even bother with Sch M.
-
Ron, I've done that. It says 'enter this preparer's information on all new returns' &''enter this ERO's information on all new returns' but it doesnt do it.
Thanks for the reply :-)
Eli
New returns okay, but you want rollover returns to have it added, right? Look under rollover info.

Once again Minnesota is still waiting for ATX to be approved...One year it was middle of February...
I try to look on the bright side as most of the problems are ironed out by then....So have fun!

My tax brain is still on vacation so I would like some help.
One of my clients is considering a Roth IRA withdrawal. He is over 59 1/2. I forgot to ask if he has held the Roth IRA for over 5 years. Am I correct that he can take contributions tax free but earnings will be taxable if held less than 5 years? If he has held the Roth IRA for over 5 years and both contributions and earnings are not taxable, does this affect his income in figuring his taxable Social Security?
Thanks.

File SS-8 and let them make the determination of employee/independent contractor...I had one this year and the
employer is paying my fees for amending the returns and over $1000 in fed and state bal due because he came up with "higher" numbers when he sent the W-2. So the SS-8 follow-up must be pretty good.
-
From experience I say "Don't worry about the discount"...
I did not renew for the early discount last year. I got a call the end of
September offering me the same discount price. I even made them(ATX)
dance a little as I stretched payments out so my 45 day guarantee went
into February so I could get my money back if ATX was as slow getting my
state approved for e-file. The discount is the least of our worries.
-
Thank you so much folks for getting me thru tax season and now you are all invited over for birthday cake.
-
I would like to see the state refund/bal due in a box up in the corner right under the fed
box showing fed refund/bal due.
Also, as has been suggested someplace else, MN M1 PR county and property ID number should
flow from one year to the next.
To "Hold" or "Not to Hold" -- That is the question!

Minnesota requires that the Federal return
be accepted before they will accept the
state return. This is new this year.
Hasn't sped up the process though as I am
still waiting on several returns going on 2 days.
