so many calls to ATX with issues and hjelp from others, still had the retry server error about 2 weeks ago. Called on Fri and said I had 19,000 host files!!! ATX cleaned them up AGAIN.
So Sat I had the office call again and got someone who said my server was smokin'! Way too little memory - and I had called at least 10x and now you are telling me this> I installed a new server last year because of 2012 problems how could this be? I have 4,,, room for more! :)

So I called my IT guy on a Sat and he ordered 2 more of 4, would come Mon, didn't of course, came Tues. not the right stuff. Reordered. Came Wed, still not right. Thurs installed something that worked. Less but still had server error but hopefully helps overall???

Now with update - boot up and immediately get the retry server error - but it does go away much sooner AND was taught how to get rid of host files...
Still problem not fixed but at least we are running better.

There is hope?
See what happens the next 2 weeks..

16BG on your server machine, if it is a 64Bit machine, is plenty. ATX has WAY underpowered the server portion of the program. At the firm, we are maxing out the ATX program server for hours at a time.

Install Update 13.5.1 using the following steps EXACTLY.

FIRST AND FOREMOST - I have had much smoother results by downloading the update file from the MYATX website and using it rather than doing the program update through the program. Smoother and faster.

  1. ABSOLUTELY update the server machine first and make sure all computers have the ATX2013 program shut OFF.

a ) Regardless if the server is also a workstation or not, download the update file from the site.

b ) Close ATX on the server if it also has a workstation.

c ) Run the downloaded file.

d ) When complete, if there is a workstation on the server, open the program and proceed as usual.

2. Wait for at least 5 minutes before updating the program on any workstation. The server will perform a total program backup and this will cause any workstations to receive multiple "server retry" errors till the backup is complete.

a ) Update workstations one at a time.

b ) Close the ATX program,

c ) Run the downloaded update file.

d ) After installation is complete, open the program and continue as normal.

3. Wait for at least 5 minutes before updating the program on another workstation. The server will perform a total program backup and this will cause any workstations to receive multiple "server retry" errors till the backup is complete.

4. Update each workstation following steps 2 & 3 till all have been done.

5. Once all the updates are installed, program should open and work as normal.

This worked smoothly for the 10 workstations at the firm for me on Friday.

well what happens with the updates is that they start automatically! in the middle of a tax return... very irritating,

so the server is almost the last one to get updated!

You have the automatic update settings in preferences set to start at a certain time. That is the only way it will start without you initiating it. Check every machine. Each login name must make the changes.
