jmkern
Hello, ATXers.... I had a hard drive crash due to a power surge. The hard drive was replaced by a computer technician BUT, of course the ATX files are not found. Is there any way to recover them when they were just 'transferred' to a new hard drive and not 'backed up' with the ATX system of backing up? Any help is GREATLY appreciated! grandmabee
contact ATX they have a retrival program that saved my bacon when I had a hard drive crash. I was able to restore all files that I had e-filed. Cost at that time was 99.00 2-3 years ago.
Abby Normal
Wait, I'm confused. The files were transferred from the old drive to the new one, but you can't find them? And, don't you back up your computers in any way, shape or form? ATX data files are in the hidden system folder called ProgramData. Older years are under CCH and newer years are under Wolters Kluwer. ATX automatically backs up each return when you close it. I sometimes close large returns part way thru just to create a backup of work in progress. Backups are also in ProgramData and less you manually moved them elsewhere.
jmkern
I haven't had this happen in many years (2005). Just wasn't aware of what to even look for.....thank you. I'm well aware that the files are automatically backed up. And, yes....I do back up my computers....had a brand new one sitting right next to my operating one in case something like this happened (as I learned in 2005), power surge got them both! Thank you for your help.
