You must be really young, to say that. I think it's time to close this thread.2 points

A study was done quite a few years ago that found people were more afraid of the IRS then the mafia. As Thomas Jefferson said when people fear the Government there is tyranny and when the Government fears the people there is freedom. Does anyone seriously think the Government fears us anymore.2 points

Have done this with every, yes every, incorrect 1099 over the last 20 or so years. No IRS notices. I do not even bother to try to get them corrected, just put it on the return & take it back out again.1 point

I am not sure this method will always work. Couple of years back one of my clients received a discrimination settlement from his employer and the employer issued a 1099-Misc with box 7 showing the amount. We tried to get it corrected but the employer was not cooperative. So finally the attorney advised your method and sure enough a CP2000 was promptly dispatched. We spoke to IRS and they told us to document the facts and they took off the assessment for SE. I think once the IRS system sees a box 7 amount it is looking for SE and short of an explanation of what is going on it will not go away.1 point

Some of my clients deliver documents to me looking like they were left in that drain line just before a huge storm.1 point

Like throwing billions of dollars at social welfare programs, unConstitutionally, over the course of decades, to have the same percentage of people in poverty as when they started -- with the additional burden of the total destruction of the family structure and the solid, respectable, hard-working community social structure in poor areas? You mean that kind of insanity? Speaking as one who was raised Democrat/liberal, just open your eyes and LOOK at what the "liberal" policies have done in the past decades. A more complete and thorough destruction of an entire section of our nation can hardly be imagined, all in the name of "helping" people. It's there, plain as day, but you must be willing to see what is _really_ there and not what you _want_ to see. Far too many people are not willing to open their eyes. I am a Constitutional Libertarian in large part because of the incredible damage that has been done (and continues to be done) to the poor and needy, for political gain.1 point

Everything the rep said had been borne out by my experience. I switched from ATX to Drake in early February of this year and have had nothing but positive experiences with the program and with their customer support. I doubt the person in the audience was a plant - Drake doesn't do business like that because they're an honest, highly-principled company. Switching between forms view and data input is a simple Contol-key toggle back & forth. Takes about 2 seconds each direction. As I've said repeatedly, forms-based entry is vastly overrated and it consumes lots of time. Program updates are lightning-fast. Drake is all about speed and service. Speed when using the software and excellent customer service on the phone. So far the company and product have equaled or exceeded all my expectations. And I'm definitely not a plant :)1 point

We used to have our office in the house. One year a client's mother called and told us her son had brought his taxes by early that morning and left them for us to do (this was on April 14.) I went out to look for them and found that he had carefully placed them inside the grill. Good thing his mother called. By the way, his mother was in her 80s then, and he was in his early 50s. Old enough to know better? Clients like those are part of the fun, right?1 point

Tax audits are a totally different ballgame than preparing tax returns. I do have a few clients (mostly evening or night appointments) who will bring their toddlers to the appointment. I have a reception area outside my office with a TV. I politely request one of the parents to watch their kids there and if I need any question answered I can always holler! This year one of my client's teenage daughter brought her lap dog in her big bag. Half way through the appointment when i saw the head pop up, I had to ask her to go sit in the reception area!1 point

This is exactly the type of beta tester they need. The jerks at CCH need to see what their mistakes did to your business. You are the target market their product has served for years. I hope they are smart enough to see, and that you are not so bitter about what they did to you, that you would be selected and they would listen to your input. Crossing my fingers that you are selected. Tom Hollister, CA1 point

Throughout the past 5 years, I've been fascinated by the parallels between the Obama presidency and the Carter presidency. Similar failures of style; similar failures of leadership. And unfortunately for all of us in the long term, similar projections of weakness on the world scene. But I never contemplated that there might be parallels between the Obama presidency and the Nixon presidency. I'll bet Jimmy Carter is the one most pleased to see these latest developments since they somewhat take the spotlight off his miserable tenure in office.1 point

my rep is John Trammell, 1-800-945-2820 x62018. my fee was for proseries prof with research, no workflow etc. Just this week I am seeing more and more limitations to proseries though. Doing 990's it doesn't do the state filings that atx did, no instruction letters for extensions or quarterly estimates unless you use the proforma letter for all 4 quarters. Also if you just want to print out the one page of the letter you can't, you must print their whole letter package each time. They only efile about 3 states extension forms, the rest must be paper filed and you can't as is my habit, print each state's instructions on a separate page to clip to the actual form. Likewise I also needed a few states business returns to paper filed since they don't efile in those states. Efiling and auto paying estimated taxes is a real pain since you have to initiate it each quarter unlike atx where you set it up once and could forget about it, so the first few corporation I did where I offered this now became my responsiblitiy to remember to efile their payments each quarter and a few are fiscal years so a real headache for me. program is lightening fast though, haven't come across any calc errors, diagnostics are great as is customer support. Funny thought that my call to support yesterday, my hold time was longer than it was during the season, abut 10 minutes.1 point
