  1. A TOUGH OLD COWBOY FROMTEXAS COUNSELED HIS GRANDDAUGHTER THAT IF SHE WANTED TO LIVE A LONG LIFE, THE SECRET WAS TO SPRINKLE A PINCH OF GUN POWDER ON HER OATMEAL EVERY MORNING. THE GRANDDAUGHTER DID THIS RELIGIOUSLY UNTIL THE AGE OF 103, WHEN SHE DIED. SHE LEFT BEHIND 14 CHILDREN, 30 GRANDCHILDREN, 45 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, 25 GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN, AND A 40-FOOT HOLE WHERE THE CREMATORIUM USED TO BE.

  2. I have learned to love Win 7. As Catherine says, my XP computers are acting a little dippy lately (maybe by design). Will still keep the desktop to use for programs that are not Win 7 compatible, such as Print Shop, etc.

  4. Once a woman invited some people to dinner. At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?" she said. "I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied. "Just say what you hear mommy say," the woman answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, "Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?".

  6. Don't rely on how he filed two years ago. Read the treaty documents on the IRS web site. It makes a difference who he works for, what dates he was in Japan, etc.

  7. As usual. Everyone is resident for tax purposes even someone who is living and working abroad is required to file and report his world-wide income - from US and Japan in this case. Form 2555 is to claim FEC exclusion. Ask for all income, in US and Japan - pension, social, trusts, if renting his US residence, even interest on his Japanese bank account are reportable and could be taxable. Return can be e-filed or paper, depends on circumstances. Attach all US income statements but no Japan w-2 to the return. Don't forget FBAR and FATCA.

  8. My comment for improvement has to do with agency instructions. Pre-2012, you could right click on any line for any form and select instructions. Then a pdf of the IRS instructions would pop up and take you directly to the instruction for the line you clicked on. In 2012, you have to press F3 to get agency instructions. It takes you to the top of the instructions, then you have hunt through the whole instructions to find the line instruction you were looking for. This was a giant step backward. Thank you for listening to our suggestions.

  10. Yes, it's time to replace. Win 7 is a very solid platform, you will not regret the change.
