  1. Does anyone else think that this has to be considered: What Can I Deduct? To be deductible, a business expense must be both ordinary and necessary. An ordinary expense is one that is common and accepted in your trade or business. A necessary expense is one that is helpful and appropriate for your trade or business. An expense does not have to be indispensable to be considered necessary.

  3. However, once they assess the penalty they can take it from any refund due. So those preparers who advised their clients to ignore the question on line 65 might be explaining next year why they did not get the refund they were expecting.
