  1. I discarded the first schedule A (v 29) form in my return, because I was getting "value" where tax prep fees should go instead of last year's fee, thus the Sch A total line stated "value" as well. I have r/e taxes, mtg interest, state taxes, contributions all showing up ok, but the form does not total correctly (s/b $25,820), and is giving them a standard deduction of 12,400. The newly added sch A is doing the same thing.... Any ideas what could be wrong? Robin
  2. Has anyone tried to install the 2009 TTO, W-2/1099 software? Apparantly, we were not to use the install code that was provided for the W-2/1099 product. I was not aware of this until I investigated why the installation got stuck on"preparing to install" for a long period of time. Any ideas what to do now? Support was closed for the day when I tried to call. Robin
  3. I entered wages (box 1 only as there were no withholdings) in the regular W-2 screen for a client that lives & works in Hong Kong. He only received a document with gross wages stated in Hong Kong dollars (which he converted for me). I e-filed this return with no problems. Robin
  4. I just received a reasonable quote from http://www.techinsurance.com/, this past week. About $200 cheaper for the same coverage from what I had been paying. Robin
  5. I tried that this morning. Still the same status for those 3. The rest of the 1099 files (approx 10), all came through with no problems, within a reasonable time. I would try to paper file, but do not have any pink copies. I guess they will be perceived as "late". ugh
  6. I have 3 sets of 1099's still marked this from 1/21/09. I know acceptances come in slow for 1099's, but this is ridiculous. Who should I contact to check on this. Thank you, Robin

    Form 8606

Has anyone received any feedback on when Form 8606 will be available for e-filing? I thought it was supposed to be ready on Feb 6th. Robin
  8. I haven't received the cd as yet, but attempted to download from the web. It will not move past "0" on the install sreen after inserting my activation code. I saw someone below had to install in safe mode to get past this. What would cause this "hanging", and should I expect the same problem when I use the cd? I didn't experience this in prior years using the same computer system. I guess I'm wondering if I might have another problem lurking somewhere. Robin
  9. Actually, I should have opened the mail before I posted. It arrived today (Archive 2007 Release 10.30.2008). Robin
  10. Does anyone know whether the final 2007 cd has been (or will be) released? I'm in the process of putting away 2007 and organizing for 2008! Robin
  11. I've had this form reported as this status since April 2. I am concerned as it has a payment attached to it to be debited April 15th. It is a form used to extend a return for a citizen who resides out of the country and will qualify for "the physical presence test" after the due date of the return. I called Andover e-file help, who said to call ATX. ATX said on 4/8 they are waiting for IRS acknowledgement. Does that make sense? Has anyone had any experience with this form?
  12. How can we locate the client/return that a ACK number has been assigned to? I received a error message "error processing ACK E71817.....", but yet they all look ok, except for an extension form 2350 (for a US citizen residing in Hong Kong, which is still in the "validated by EFC" stage. I thought maybe it could be this one, but not sure.
  13. Is ther a way to efile when both sale & acquiaitopn dates are various without using a bogus date in one of the cells?
  14. A partnership has a 401-K and pension plan. Each partner contributes the max ($20,500 - over age 50, by reducing draws (deferral)). The partnership matches ($9,000), booked as a employer match (expense) and also contributes a pension deposit of $20,500, also expensed. My question is how much passes through on the K-1 so that the partner reports it on his own 1040? They have other employees participating as well. I thought it was only the deferral portion. Robin
  15. It was an existing business in which the owner was looking to purchase a warehouse to get rid of an excessive rent payment.
  16. My client forfeited $6,000 (personal funds) in the purchase of a warehouse that was to house his business. Would this be treated as a short term capital loss?
  17. No, this stands for Mortgage Insurance Premium. It protects the lender in case of default. It is collected until there is 20% equity in the property, either by paying down the mortgage or appreciation in the property. This year its deductible for new mortgages. Amount is reported on Line 4 of the 1098.
  18. Origination fee (points) can be deducted in its entireity for a new acquisition. The rest are basis adjustments. Also, look for real estate tax line items which can be deducted if paid (not held in escrow). You ignore the escrow items on the settlement sheet.
  19. Here is a site to opt out of unwanted mail order catalogs. Save a tree! https://www.catalogchoice.org/ Robin
  20. I have successfully (at least I think I have) numerous client's W-2's thru ATX/Accu? to SSA. I was wondering if the W-3 was also included in the same transmitted file, or is that a separate transmission. I can't remember what I did last year. Robin
  21. Hi Everybody, I just wanted to verify that ATX's 10% renewal discount runs through June 30th? I question my memory because I received an e-mail today referencing May 31 as the discount period. Today's e-mail also advertised a contest drawing, so it may be different. Robin
  22. Joan, Maybe this will help you: February/March 2007, No. 126 Update On Non-Qualified Deferred Compensation The Department of Revenue, in a previous PA Tax Update article (April/May 2006, No. 120), provided guidance to employers and taxpayers with respect to deferrals and distributions from Nonqualified Deferred Compensation Plans. The employer requirements included providing plan participants with a letter stating the amount of elective deferrals previously included in PA taxable compensation on a year-by-year basis and new coding for W-2s beginning in 2006 to indicate the certain attributes with respect to the amounts of deferrals and distributions. Due to the IRS extension of their coding requirements for Box 12 of the W-2, the Department of Revenue advised employers that their requirements with respect to the new coding for Box 14 of the W-2s were suspended for tax year 2006. Employers were further advised that, even though they did not need to include the information on the W-2, they would still need to be able to provide the amounts of current year elective deferrals or current year distributions that may have been previously included in PA taxable income. Taxpayers who do not have the information included on their W-2 with respect to deferrals or previously taxed distributions should complete and include with their PA-40 the new PA Schedule W-2 RW, Reconciliation Worksheet to provide the Department of Revenue with the information missing from the W-2s. Taxpayers and tax preparation professionals should include this new worksheet with the return at the time of filing to avoid delays in receiving any refunds they might be due. Returns received without the new worksheet will be put in a hold status until the worksheet is requested and received from the taxpayer. It is suggested that this new worksheet be completed and included with a PA-40 return any time the Medicare Wages on a W-2 do not match the Pennsylvania Wages on a W-2. 23. After a couple days of being "back to normal", I've had some time to assess my thoughts on ATX. I have been extremely happy with the software over the last 6 years that I've used it. Each year got better, as I got used to its improvements and developments. Much of this I credit to the community, because there was always help and some sort of feedback to whatever problem I was experiencing. I never had to call tech support, because my answers were within the forum. It was invaluable. I now feel a sense of abandoment, and wonder what else will be abandoned without notice. Its kind of hard to trust this company with my livelyhood. On another note, this forum is a great start in regaining the camaraderie, than we once enjoyed, and I will also be willing to support it financially. Robin
