  1. "IMO, this board has been more orderly, polite and informative than the old one was." Don't be to hasty. Most of the comments on the old board came during tax season (high stress period), and some were caused by the frustrations and problems using ATX software. At least this board won't be shut down if the moderators don't like compaints against ATX.
  2. I received the survey and was also told they weren't interested in my opinion. It must have something to do with the 1 person, 1 location answer. I guess ATX is only interested in opinions from bigger operations. I'm glad I'm switching this year.
  3. I am looking for a pay-per-return package, with about 15 business return. I have compared ATX, Drake, Pro series, Great Tax and Orrtax. I used ATX last year, but found many problems, including customer support, and late forms availability. For my situation, Drake, at $ 285.00, is the best value. Plus, I can convert my ATX files to Drake. For 2007, I'm going with Drake. By the way, I use TaxAct for Individual returns. Even though they charge extra for e-file, its still cheaper, given my client volume.

    TaxAct

I haven't used TaxAct for business or estate returns. But from what I've read, and understandably, it's not as good as the other, more expensive software. There is a forum that deals exclusively with TaxAct. I think its a Yahoo group. You may want to go there for more answers.

    TaxAct

I've used TaxAct for several years, for all 1040's. The program is reliable, easy to use, notifies you of updates available, and easilt transfers information from prior year TaxAct returns. I don't know if you can import ATX files. I have only tried Arizona and California state returns. They worked fine. Some forms aren't available. Don is right regarding conversion. So make sure you intend to use TaxAct for years to come.
  6. I have used TaxAct Professional for a number of years and found it reliable, accurate, reasonably priced and easy to use. However, there are some supplemental forms it doesn't have. Since I live in Washington, I don't do state income tax forms. TaxAct notifies you when updates are available. I have used it strictly for 1040's. E-file now costs $ 7.95, but I only e-file 15 returns, so the price is still reasonable. When I need out-of-state forms, it costs $ 12.95 per state, which is also reasonable. I also use the ATX 10 return program, for Partnerships, Corps, 1099's and trusts. Since I do very few, this has worked out well. For a small practice, I would recommend TaxAct. Because of what ATX has done, and because my client base is growing, I am considering alternatives to ATX, possibly TAX Act or Drake. For new, or smaller practices, I recommend TaxAct.
