  1. Your post is ambiguous. You have a non-profit entity, yet in the second paragraph talk about a profit entity. Which is it? I practice in New York, and do some non-profit organizations. In New York, depending upon the threshold of gross receipts and assets determines the type of financial statements that need to be filed-under $ 100G - no financials necessary, $100-150G-compilation, over $ 150G - audited financials.
  2. To those of you who have NYS corporation tax clients - beware. There is a private business entity, completely unrelated to New York State government, that is mailing out compliance registration forms, asking that businesses complete the information and submit back with a $ 125 fee to an address located in the state capitol of Albany, NY. The name of the business is New York State Corporation Compliance. The name of the form they ask you to complete is Annual Minutes Disclosure Statement". For your edification-corporations in New York State require filing a bi-annual registration form with the Department of State, that asks for update information on the corporation's legal and mailing address, responsible officer(s) name and address. The bi-annual fee is $ 9. This entity is asking for $ 125 EACH YEAR. So please beware - warn your New York corporation clients to ignore these notices - they are not being generated from New York State government.
  3. There is a change of residence form (IT-360.1) that's incorporated on the IT-201 or IT-203 to report part year resident status in New York City. New York City taxes residents, but does not tax nonresidents who work in NYC. So the IT-360.1 has you do calculations to tax a resident for the part year he/she was a resident.
  4. Thank you jainen-that was exactly the point I was trying to make.
  5. But it is hardly 'price-fixing' for a group of unaffiliated people to merely discuss how they may charge. There's a difference between discussing HOW charges are based, versus discussing actual dollar amounts for specific services. The original post asked for dollar amounts for specific services. Hey-it's your board -do what you want.
  6. I don't believe that public disclosure of dollar amounts of fees are an accepted business practice. I really suggest the Webmaster check this out before anyone answers. It might be against the Federal Trade Commission policy or other such regulatory policy. It MIGHT be construed as price fixing.
  7. First-I like coming to this board and posting, and as I stated in my first post the other day, I really do enjoy the interaction among fellow practitioners. However, so far, all I've seen posted are discussions on the management of this board and no substantive discussions on "How Do You Handle" specific income tax problems except e-filing-whether they be individual, corporate, business, payroll, or other related subjects. Isn't this really what boards like this are for? I understand and expect that there will be some exchange of "tech support" for ATX users, but I would expect the main thrust to be a forum for practitioners sounding off practitioner problems to each other.
  8. I'm a newbie on this board. I'm NOT an ATX user. I'm an UltraTax customer (Thompson Tax & Accounting) but I really enjoy the exchange of information among practitioners regardless of which product they use for tax preparation. I do frequent the ARNE2 board (UltraTax's ATX community) I know nothing of what was on the previous board and can't comment on it. IF changes are going to be made here, I suggest that the forums be organized to represent the major classification of needs of the users. For example, on ARNE2 - the forums are broken out as follows: 1 forum for each major product Thompson sells to accountants, then a forum for accounting and tax issues, then a forum for classified ad posts, and a miscellaneous. The NAEA board has its member board organized by tax subject - so if I have a question on a specific tax subject - I post it on that specific board forum. I guess this is a perfect opportunity for ATX users to utilize their prior experience from board use and improve on it. Although I may not post here frequently, I do appreciate the opportunity to pop in here to read about concerns of practitioners and responses on how to handle specific issues. What I normally do - from ANY of the boards I do use - is if I see a subject pertaining to a client I have and a specific problem, when there are responsible replies to that inquiry, I print out a copy of it and keep it in that specific client's file for future reference. Once again, I'd like to express my thank you to ATX for being able to use this board and I hope that I can be of assistance to other practitioners in the process.
